Getty ImagesAs we reported during the Elway-Manning tag-team press conference that refused to end, the Lions have signed linebacker Stephen Tulloch to a five-year deal.
Linebacker David Hawthorne likely didn’t get the memo.
Anwar Richardson of MLive.com reports that Hawthorne was in a plane bound for Detroit when news broke of the Tulloch deal, unaware that the guy whom Hawthorne would have been replacing no longer needs to be replaced.
Hawthorne, who spent his first four seasons with the Seahawks, also has visited the Saints.
Lions officials currently are drawing straws to determine who’ll be the one to tell Hawthorne he came to town for no reason.

He has a right to be angry seeing how he’s far better than TuLOLoch.
Or maybe they sign him too?
maybe he is on the plane reading this story
Come Home David…..We want you, signed PC.
PS. Sorry, but the money will be less than you want.
Love it. Comeback to Nola David.
oops…
Maybe they should hire Matt Millen to make the phone call.
At least the weather’s nice. 80 degrees and sunny, today and tomorrow.
Don’t worry, we’ll have Suh drive him back. He can make it in about 3 hours at his normal driving rate.
lol.. i feel bad, that’s not exactly a short flight
Or maybe they’re thinking they can sign Hawthorne to play OLB
Just buy the man a nice meal and show him the town. Then he won’t want to stay.
Makes sense for Detroit to resign Tulloch. Knows the system and has played well for them. What I can’t understand is why Seattle is letting Hawthorne walk. Unless they have a deal for him to figure out his market value and then Seattle counters. But he has played very well over the past couple years, brings the wood too. I was hoping my Saints would offer him a contract but they didn’t?
Wifi on a plane. He knows.
I believe he can play outside lb
he is always more then welcome to join Eagles, we need a LB over 5’11
as a hawk’s fan I’d love to keep hawthorn. Hopefully he realizes how tough the market is for linebackers and makes his way back to seattle.
This is great for seattle, this guys is a beast….He does have knee problems which contributes to him missing a few games a season.
David Hawthorne, come to Denver!!
Deandre Levy had a down year once he got next to guys that play well, but I still can’t see them signing another lb.
Come on back to the Hawks David. We still got love for ya.
Hop on a plane and scoot on over to MN. We’ve got 99 problems and linebackers 1.
What kind of money is Hawthorne looking for? I say the Lions should consider extending him a 1 or 2 year offer while he’s in the D. Depth is a great thing.

Carroll said he wanted to get faster at LB. The emergence of KJ Wright last season (the man who made Curry expendable) has them thinking they can move Wright to the middle and pick up someone faster to play outside.
The idea of drafting Luke Kuechly to play the middle has also been passed around.
*Breaking news*
“The plane bound for Detroit was forced to land prematurely after unnamed man flipped out. More to come as more information becomes available…now back to your program.”
It’s okay head south to the Chi. You’ll look mighty nice next to Urlacher and Briggs.
Maybe Hawthorne will take advantage of the situation and look for a summer home while he’s here.
“David Hawthorne may not be happy when he gets to Detroit”
Can you blame him??? I think I’d rather go to Beirut.
RE; “backindasaddle”
Ha-ha-ha, so funny. Maybe you should spend a tour or two in theater before you make such comments.
I got a feeling, you’d soil your britches and cry for mommy after spending 15 minutes near the “Gulf”.
Great post though..real hilarious!
I apologize to the people of Beirut for associating your city with Detroit.
