So how is this different from when I do well at my job and after reaching certain goals after 6 months, I receive a bonus?! My company doesn't have to do that. They feel it's motivation. I "will operate better for them". I just don't think the sanctions are fair, especially when considering that the Patriots hardly got punished for CHEATING!!!!

Pretty sure Benson was given a similar memo about the possibility of something happening under his nose. He then passed it on to Loomis, who was supposed to take care of it- and didnt. League found out it was still going on, punishes the Saints.

If anything, this acknowledges that the league suspects it isnt just a Saints issue, but they only had proof that the Saints were doing it, nobody else.

If any team gets caught doing something similar now, they should get a worse penalty for doing it.

Face it, the Saints were the only team unfortunate (stupid) enough to get caught (then lie about it, then get caught for real).

First off I will say I am from New Orleans, and I am a fan of the New Orleans Saints. Now that’s out of the way, the Saints were made a scapegoat by Roger Goodell and the NFL. Just like another writer put it “free passes for 31 other teams, and one penalty” That about sums it all up. If Goodell can come up with thousands of pages confirming that this took place in New Orleans, then you can bet he can come up with something similar on other NFL teams. It was a witch hunt, and New Orleans got royally screwed. I guess they wanted to be sure that an NFL team didn’t play in the Super Bowl in their own backyard for the first time. Maybe I’m being cynical, I’m sure other teams will just open up and say, please do the same to us, we want to be fair about all this…..RIGHT!

---------------------------------------

Actually a witch hunt would have been if the League had gone after every team in the NFL, assuming guilt where there is no evidence of it, looking for any possible indiscretions and punishing coaches punitively for even the hint of the possibility whether guilty or not.

What happened here was the Saints were caught red handed, and instead of creating a witch hunt that could rock the rest of the league, they are moving on with a strongly worded warning and a harsh penalty for those that were caught.

Exactly. Our defenders hit people because it's part of the game, not because they need extra incentives. It's called "tackling." If it's too icky for you, pooflinger, I'm sure you can find a nice sedate sport--like Canadian curling--on cable :)

Ravens were outright doing this in 2008 -- Terrell Suggs was caught saying that Hines Ward and Rashard Mendenhall were on their bounty list because he texted Ray Rice about going for 100 yards in his first NFL start -- which the Ravens defense took offense to.

Of course Suggs retracts it. When asked about it on PTI, Ward laughed it off while showing a copy of the rules regarding bounties, getting a laugh out of Kornheiser and Wilbon.

Then Rashard Mendenhall ends up injured and out for the year. What action was taken?

Nothing.

But the Saints got screwed with this overkill of a penalty - especially when it's nothing compared to the salary cap manipulation of the Broncos and 49ers and Spygate.

What about their past "bounty" programs???????

"...confirm that the club does not operate a similar pay-for-performance or bounty program..."

"...and that if such a program exists, it must be terminated immediately..."

Does every other team get a pass?

What is it 31 Free Passes and one Penalty???

NFL = Disgrace

Total BS from the league. I guess they don'y want to know the truth about the practice, that has been rampant in the NFL for years!
