Broncos announce Tebow trade

A day after signing quarterback Peyton Manning, the Broncos have completed one of the most stunning out-with-the-new-and-in-with-the-old flip-flops of all time and officially traded quarterback Tim Tebow.

The Broncos have announced that Tebow will now be a member of the New York Jets.

“Tim Tebow deserves an enormous amount of credit for what he accomplished and how he carried himself during his time with the Broncos,” V.P. of football operations John Elway said.  “From taking over a 1-4 team and leading it to the playoffs to energizing our fans and this community, Tim left an extraordinary mark on this organization.  His time in Denver will always hold a special place in Broncos history.

“As a former player, I know the last two weeks were not easy for Tim. He was put in a difficult situation, and I commend him for how he handled it with the same first-class manner he displayed throughout his career in Denver.

“Our goal was to do the best thing for Tim and the Broncos, and I believe the opportunity that presented itself with the New York Jets accomplishes that objective.  Tim made a lot of strides last year and has a very promising career ahead of him. If anyone is willing to put the work in to be great, it’s Tim Tebow.

“I have a great deal of respect for Tim and the positive impact he makes both on the field and in the community.  He has a bright future in this league, and I’m hopeful he will enjoy continued success with the Jets.”

Coach John Fox also gushed about the now-former would-be franchise quarterback.

“Tim Tebow brought an incredible spirit and spark to our team that helped us turn the season around,” Fox said.  “Along the way, he earned the trust of his teammates and coaches while inspiring our fans.  His competitiveness, clutch performances and will to win played an instrumental role in our team earning a division title and advancing in the playoffs.

“Tim works as hard as any player I’ve ever coached, and that work ethic will continue to serve him well with the Jets.  He goes out to practice early, stays late and comes in on his day off.  Tim does everything in his power to get better. He’s not afraid to work, and we saw the results of his commitment last season.

“For good reason, Tim has always had a great following.  He handled that aspect exceptionally during the amazing run we had.  The poise and focus Tim displayed were remarkable and speak volumes for the strength of his character.

“A player and person like Tim don’t come around very often. He is real and he walks the walk.  I’m looking forward to watching him continue his career with the Jets, and I wish him the very best.”

After reading both statements, it’s hard to understand why in the hell the Broncos traded him.

Then again, it’s hard to understand why in the hell most of the things that have happened this offseason have happened.

And we love it.  And we can only wonder what will happen next.

Jets vs Broncos AFC title game. Tebow starts for an injured dirty Sanchez and triumphs over Manning and the Broncos. How poetic.

  10. apooster says: Mar 21, 2012 9:22 PM

Let me sum up Fox and Elway for you:

We pretended to like him and to win games tailored the offense around him. But in the end we really didn’t, and all he is is a glorified tailback.

YUCK…Well Ive cheered for the jets for the last time. This guy is the anti NY. WHat the heck are the jets going to do with him? The wildcat is outdated and he cant play. Plus they just extended Sanchez and now he will face untold pressure with every incompletion. Ive been to a 6-3 loss to the colts but this is the final straw. Screw you mr.t. woody, and rex. They fall over themselves to get this talentless qb but havent addressed the lack of a passrusher for 3 seasons. Oh, and I’m glad they focused here instead of getting a RT. Thanks Jets for breaking my heart again.

  14. sackbombs says: Mar 21, 2012 9:22 PM

Manning comes out wearing a #15 Jersey and bends down to ‘Tebow’ and then gets up and rips off the jersey and looks into the camera and tells the whole world, “This is my town Tim, now get out of town by sunset. (a year goes bye, and Tim Tebow MVP of the 2013 Super Bowl Jets call Manning and says ‘Thanks Peyton’.

  22. ampats says: Mar 21, 2012 9:23 PM

  32. barneyrumble says: Mar 21, 2012 9:25 PM

  34. rawgator06 says: Mar 21, 2012 9:25 PM

So did he choose or did the Broncos choose? If he chose, then I am confused as hell. Why would he go to a high-pressure city with a qb that just recieved an extension and a locker room that is quite possibly the most dysfunctional in NFL history? If he went to the Jags, he would have started and he would be back home. The Jags would have built everything around him.

  39. maxvv says: Mar 21, 2012 9:26 PM

What we’re witnessing is an experiment. Can a team that builds its identity around the run game win in a passing league? John Elway said no, and so he went in on Peyton Manning. Rex Ryan sees that we can’t win when Sanchez is dropping back over 60 times a game, and so he’s doubled down on the run. And you know what? This could actually work, so long as Tebow is never, ever called upon to actually start a game as a QB.

Oh, and here’s the obligatory religion joke. Helping the Jets win a Super Bowl is the greatest miracle of all.

  40. chibears5 says: Mar 21, 2012 9:26 PM

The Jets just add anybody with a recognizable name any more. Does this move prove you are a leader on this team Sanchez? Getting easier and easier to hate the Jets and the ever expanding list of A Holes.

  41. kelvinmchale says: Mar 21, 2012 9:27 PM

  48. doctorfootball says: Mar 21, 2012 9:28 PM

His contract was cap friendly. I don’t get why the Broncos felt like they needed to trade him. With Manning at quarterback, it wasn’t going to be like last year where the fans clamored for Tebow ahead of Orton. Unless Elway lied about feeling comfortable moving forward with Tebow as his quarterback. Which is what he said before Manning gave the Broncos his commitment.

  49. citiciti says: Mar 21, 2012 9:28 PM

Who cares. He will be out of the league soon.

  50. clawledge says: Mar 21, 2012 9:28 PM

This whole situation reveals what John Elway really is…a big, fat liar. “Our goal was to do the best thing for Tim and the Broncos” Yeah, trading Tebow to the Jets is the best move for NOBODY except the Broncos. John Elway better pray there in no such thing as karma.

  51. ijahru says: Mar 21, 2012 9:29 PM

The more I see and hear him the more I think Elway is a complete jackoff and he is gonna really set the Broncos back.

  52. KIR says: Mar 21, 2012 9:29 PM

Rex Ryan is like the boyfriend who keeps on cheating and every time he gets caught he promises to never do it again. Sanchez is going to see what a real leader acts like.

  53. dumbasdirt says: Mar 21, 2012 9:29 PM

What a brilliant idea the Broncos had in trading Tebow for late round picks. When Manning gets injured the only QB on the Broncos current roster is Adam Weber. Weber has never thrown a pass in an NFL regular season game.
The Broncos will regret this trade.

I really hope this guy can help the players come together and play better somehow. I dont really care what he does on the field, im not expecting great passes and the worst that happens is he plays as bad as Mark Sanchez so no loss there, but he does have that really good reputation in the league as being a good team guy, so hopefully he can help the Jets! Really he can only help, on the field and off, at this point.

  72. ibreathefootball says: Mar 21, 2012 9:47 PM

Tebow helps with chemistry and will bring a wildcat/3rd down package at first. Shoot you never know you might see him catching balls too, he’s a heck of an athlete and a smart decision Rex Ryan has made to try to help save his job. A 4th rounder? Brian Leonard was a 2nd rounder and that’s Tebow running the ball but Leonard can’t throw!

  73. natedawg44 says: Mar 21, 2012 9:49 PM

These Fox and Elway are just ridiculous. Just shut up. These statements are completely asinine. You traded him. You didn’t think he was good enough. Give a simple statement. This is nothing, but patronizing baloney. If he was as an amazing person and player as you just said, why did you just trade him. “marry my daughter” “Special place in Broncos history”. Give me a damn break from that garbage.

  74. djcologne says: Mar 21, 2012 9:51 PM

  80. narollah says: Mar 21, 2012 9:57 PM

    P. Manning will likely get severely injured early in the season. His and a buck toothed dummy’s foolish lust to be in the center of the field are, going to be, both of their downfalls. He’ll potentially be crippled for life due to making a deal with the devil. Bronco fans were believing in and following Jesus’ good karma, along with Tebow, last season.

  81. shlort says: Mar 21, 2012 9:57 PM

In a couple years we’ll be saying “Remember that guy who played for the Broncos and got traded to the Jets after Denver picked up Manning?.. what was his name? Tom something, right?” Tebow couldnt have picked a worse place to end up. He should have gone somewhere that gave him the opportunity to develope behind an older QB, or should have gone somewhere that would feature him under center the way Denver did. Rex has a man crush on Sanchez and Sanchez’s sub par play. Thee is no way Tebow will be taking many ssnaps. Rex will use him as some gimmick player and he will soon be forgotten.

Not a football move. They should’ve had Wimbley, Anderson and Winston in for visits to address the lack of a passs rusher and the gaping hole at RT. Instead they fall over themselves to announce this trade w/o even reading the contract just to try and get some headlines. this move doesnt make sense. I guess all I have to hope for now is a 4-12 season that gets rex and mr t fired. Hopefully woody kills himself.

  94. goforthanddie says: Mar 21, 2012 10:08 PM

  95. bucforever says: Mar 21, 2012 10:08 PM

Tebow would have been a solid backup for Manning. If / when Peyton gose down Elway will look like a total fool! You gotta believe Tim Tebow is not in this for the money. The Broncos could have kept him for a bargain price . If the Broncos believed all the praise they heaped on the man why get rid of him?

  96. jonkoethe says: Mar 21, 2012 10:08 PM

    Tebow > Sanchez

  97. taintedsaints2009 says: Mar 21, 2012 10:09 PM

  98. kmack831 says: Mar 21, 2012 10:09 PM

Why all the Tebow hate? He has issues, not everyone is perfect.

Not every QB throws 100% or 90% heck not even 70% completion. What is the avg 65-68% for a game/season.

Tebow love of football is pretty unmatched. I guess Peyton’s love of the game is equal.

Speaking of Peyton, I believe he is the only QB on Donkeys Depth chart. So 1st/2nd round gonna have to draft someone. And then in week 3 when Manning gets broken. Den will go 3-13.

What ever the Jets plan are, they get a guy who will play his heart and soul for his team.

Look at Tebows Clutch preformances… Look at the Steelers playoff game.

Peytons 1st year he went 3-13 56% completions ratio, 26 TDs 28 ints.

    Good luck Tim!!

and Go NINERS!!! With the other MANNINGham and MOSS, and maybe Wallace, Alex has weapons and Niners will beat Peytons brother then face Jets or some team not named Denver in the SB!!

As I’ve said for quite sometime now, the NFL have lost its way and the media is now it’s master.

Back in the day when ESPN was just a “comic relief” sport show, teams weren’t forced to choose someone simply because the media pressured them to do so. Now, the NFL is like a darn three ring circus thanks to ESPN and NFLN.

Outside of wanting more attention than the Gaints, which the Jets won’t get, I can’t see why Tim Tebow would be on this team. Is he going to bring them a SB? I seriously doubt it.

assuming he really did get to pick between jets and jags…. i can’t help but feel that same sense of projected betrayal i felt when lebron decided against ohio. i know this is his choice and has nothing to do with me, but that’s how it feels.

How is he gonna fit in with John Conner already playing fullback?

  104. mcjon22 says: Mar 21, 2012 10:23 PM

Well, it will be fun to watch Sanchez, Holmes, Tebow, and Rex completely implode next year. SMH This makes ZERO sense

I was cheering for the broncos last year bc tebow is a feel good story for real not like the 09 aints, and i was a manning fan (im a lions fan) but now i hope horseface elway and giraffe neck manning stink it up real good all tebow did was give everything he had, love the game and leave everything on the field he has won at all levels he took that joke team past the steelers like it or not.
screw denver its not his fault they drafted him in the first round he didnt draft himself. eff denver and the number thief (18) besides i would rather my kids wear any tebow jersey than wear 99% of the other players (just check the turd watch you wont find tebow slapping/raping women or killing dogs) football is entertainment not YOUR life god luck to tebow and i hope nyj has a great qb coach that can honestly help tebow improve so he can shut up all the pagan haters

I’m a Lions fan and always will be but I still don’t understand all the hate for Tebow. We get it. You are an atheist and you find his faith threatening. Get over it and let’s talk football. It is kind of nice to read about players that don’t kill people, “make it rain”, stomp others, wreck cars, offer bounties, shoot themselves, beat women, take drugs or any other type of activity the “heroes” participate in.

john fox and his boss gary bussey better hope they win a playoff game(s). manning is an awesome mentor and did a great job tutoring painter the last few years…bwahahah. This is a blessing for tebow to get out of town. jets have had talent but no heart, they fixed that today….GROUND AND POUND!

This is about selling the remaining season tickets and selling jerseys. this is about stealing headlines on the backpage of tha papers and the front page of the blogs. This is about the image of Raiders East. This is a team tha for years has gotten season ticket money from me. This is no threat to Sanchez. This is about a lot of things, except the most important one. Because any Jet fan with common sense knows that this is NOT about winning football games. I now openly question Tannenbaum’s sanity.

  120. rushmatic says: Mar 21, 2012 11:10 PM

Well, supposedly Tebow is a great leader of men. Or maybe just religious men. Either way, maybe Sanchez can learn a few things.

As a Pats fan, though, I surely hope not.

  121. nyjetsfan08 says: Mar 21, 2012 11:16 PM

The only reason for this trade is Woody has a hardon for name players, good or bad. Anything to be on the back AND front pages, especially trying to overshadow their co-tenants. The only positive is tebow could help unite the locker room — maybe that’s y the jets took him. Nah. In fact, the jets’ locker room will corrupt tebow. Either way, that’s a win.

  122. habsman says: Mar 21, 2012 11:36 PM

The Jets just added a player with un-questioned character and leadership abilities.

Of course Jet fans would be upset with this.

    Do you need a tissue?

If you were a real Jets fan you would realize that the Jets now have 4 healthy QBs on the roster. They will not be wasting 4 slots on QBs. Something big will go down between now and the draft. If not before the end of April, definitely before the end of training camp.

And reason #2 why you’re not a true Jets fan: you’re jumping ship. Real fans don’t jump on another bandwagon. Good riddance!

If the Broncos don’t WIN the 2013 Super Bowl, They should fire John Elway, John Fox AND Brian Xanders.

  126. robertunsoberirish says: Mar 22, 2012 12:37 AM

Tebow will fail anywhere he goes. He is probably the most predictable quarterback I’ve ever watched! Jets fans, you will find out what a Tebowmaniac is and you will want to choke the crap out of them when you meet them! Tebow fans aren’t football fans, they don’t know or care how to play the game, they only care about jesus and “good role models”. I’m so glad he is out of my city and away from my football team. He is a lockerroom cancer, you’ll find out!

  127. sojudaddy says: Mar 22, 2012 12:51 AM

Manning goes down to injure after a hard hit….now who’s the QB? Quinn = gone. Tebow = gone. I know…is Garcia willing to come out of retirement?
