Guess who’s long been a member of the NFL Competition Committee — JEFF FREAKING FISHER.

Hypocrisy reigns.

How can the NFL keep him on that committee and claim it’s all about player safety.

My biggest gripe about “interpretation” of the rules was what constitutes a catch. It didn’t even matter who you were rooting for, they still only got it right maybe half the time. Shoot there were times you’d see a disputed call on one channel and they’d call the exact opposite of what they called before on the next play on another channel. The NFL ticket hasn’t done any favors for the officials.

Someone please remind John Madden that when defenders rush in and make contact with kickers and punters, their target is the football; not the kicker or punter. The NFL is essentially penalizing them for screwing up. How can you possibly apply those rules to defenders rushing in, who’s main purpose is to sack the QB? Of course there is going to be contact after the the QB releases the ball once in a while. They can’t literally stop on a dime.

The NFL might as well just say the QB is untouchable and can only be sacked via two-hand touch. Once they do that, I’ll be able to stop watching football all-together and not feel guilty about it.

The solution is pretty simple, really. The game is more dominated by passing today as ever before, and yet despite efforts to protect QBs they’re still getting pummeled worse than any other time in history (according to madden). So why not make the rules such that passing isn’t as dominant to winning? In other words, let DBs actually play defense and then there will be less incentive on hitting QBs and more on actually playing defense. Also, the running game will become more important again – something that becomes big in the playoffs but is somehow lost during the season.

Despite the NFL’s effort to turn itself into an entertainment show like the NBA instead of a sport, please understand that most fans’ interest isn’t related to how often a team passes the Val

If this rule is put in place, there will be far fewer QB sacks. Defenders will not come at them as hard and fast for fear that they will be unable to pull back if the QB releases the ball at the last minute. Thats why blocked kicks are so rare.

I think going for knockouts and cart offs have no place in the NFL However loving defense and a good low scoring game I enjoy a good QB sack as well as a 50 yard bomb.

You might as well get rid of the secondary. You got corners converting to safeties all over the place and you got hard hitting safeties turning into center fielders. You also got corners barely able to pressure receivers. Man, guys like Polumalu and E. Reed are becoming extinct unless they can catch the football.

I remember begging to be a strong safety in H.S. because all we did was hit people. That position was usually the toughest in the secondary. Now its just another corner 10-15 yards off the ball.

Add flags on QBs and receivers. Defenses shoould get an extra point if they avoid hitting receiver hard. Put a bulls eye in the endzone and give a team 20 points if they hit it dead center. This will keep the receivers safe and give qb alternative target if no one is open. Thus, keeping the QBs safe…

The people saying that the QB is already protected too much should probably just watch MMA. Go back to just last year and see how many QB’s were knocked out of the game. Are you telling me that these guys are protected too much? Now, pretend you are the owner of an NFL team. After your QB gets knocked out for the season, tell me how you don’t care about the money you’re going to lose with your star player not playing. After all, football is a violent game, and you just want to see big hits, right? Wrong!

The NFL is a multi-billion dollar juggernaut that is going to protect it’s star players! And you will whine and cry, but you will do so while watching 9 hours of football every Sunday, and 3 hours on Monday night, and on the occasional Thursday’s, and also on Saturday’s late in the season and in the playoffs.

I love the NFL, almost obsessed with it, but the fact that they tweek the rules every year is annoying. Takes away from the sanctity of the game.
