"As a Patriots fan, I am really curious why Congress has not yet been involved? BountyGate is much more sinister than having a guy in a Patriots coat taping hand signals in plain view to every man, woman, child, bumble bee, and mosquito in the stadium. A VHS doesn’t win 3 Super Bowls haters, sorry.

Congress isn’t involved because the Saints haven’t been crushing other fans dreams for a decade…including Eagles fan Arlen Specter? That's why."

There's no doubt in my mind that the Patriots still win all of their Super Bowls with or without Spy Gate. Let's not forget that stealing signals is fine and that's why teams had guys with binoculars and note pads trying to decipher them. The Pats - and others per Jimmy Johnson/other coaches - took it to another level with what they did. They got in trouble less for what they actually did and more for their arrogance - figuratively laughing in the face of the then relatively new commissioner by ignoring the warning memo the league sent to all teams a week or two prior to SG. If Tagliabue or Rozelle were the commish then, we might not have heard about Spy Gate much or at all (similar to other "scandals" like the Broncos salary cap circumvention in the late Elway era), but Goodell needed to establish that a new sheriff was in town and BB/Pats paid the price.

That all said, I think the brilliance of Bill Belichick and his sustained excellence in terms of W/L is great talent likely Tom Brady combined with a series of small edges (e.g., salary cap management, trading down one round in current year and gaining a pick a round up in the next year, focus on middle class of roster and not being too top heavy, small coaching tips gained from years of experience at a wide # of stops, and yes things like filming signals, how to catch a punt, how to study for & ID tendencies, etc.). He would not waste his time and continue something if he did not see some small incremental gain in it. But to say Spy Gate was the reason the Pats have been so successful for so long in the salary cap era is too simple and ignores all of the smart and little things they have done over the years. It also ignores that they have had the best record in football since Spy Gate and have made two Super Bowls since then, losing both in the last minute. Not to mention a 14-2 in 2010 and an 11-5 in 2008 with Matt Cassel playing 15 3/4 games for an injured Tom Brady.

I expect they'll receive a "slap on the wrist" but anything that attacks the integrity of the NFL should be dealt with in a serious manner. Or maybe they can have "outside influences" fund offensive incentives programs, like 3rd down conversions, red zone touchdowns, plays over 20 yds, or how about cut blocks, maybe crack blocks that puts a team best rusher/run stopper out of the game! Hmmmm

Let's see....paying defensive players to purposely main players on the other team to get them out of the game. Williams, Payton, and Loomis should consider themselves lucky that all they're probably get is suspensions and fines, all of which should well exceed Spygate.

This is perilously close a far more serious offense.... It's called assault and battery.

It better not exceed the spygate punishment. In my opinion spygate got a slap on the wrist.

LOL.....seriously? You are saying that "Videotaping" an opponents hand signals ...is a more serious offense than putting bounties on NFL players and encouraging your own players/teammates to try and cripple them?

That's like saying that a purse snatcher should get a stiffer penalty than a murderer. Get a clue

I have said this a few times before and will say it again. I think this is far worse than Spy Gate on many levels (intent to injure/end careeers, salary cap circumvention, the dishonesty when caught, etc.) and the penalites handed down will reflect that. I may be wrong, but my instinct is that the penalites here will make Spy Gate look like a parking ticket in comparison.

......"or the forfeiture of draft picks" - OR? There had better be a forfeiture of draft picks. There have been teams that have lost draft picks for "violating" the NFL's BS "tampering rule" - which seems to be selective since most teams practice it but only a couple have been found guilty of it. Also, that would be "picks" - as in more than one. Anything else would be laughable.

I agree with myspaceyourface when he says that SpyGate got a slap on the wrist, but I don't think the league should compound that by making the same mistake here. In fact, given that a couple of hundred former players are suing the league saying, in part, that the league withheld critical information regarding the seriousness of concussions I don't think the league can afford a slap on the wrist here. What's happened here is that a member of management has paid out of his own pocket (at times) for an opposing player to be "carted off" the field... that's a financial / legal liability the league doesn't need.

It will interesting to see what The Commish's credibility rating looks like after he finally gets off the dime and deals with all the Sicko Saints (and former Saints in particular). If Williams is still in coaching anywhere in organized football, it will be a travesty. And Pencil-faced Payton should be there one step to the left, and two steps back carrying his lunch pail.

To all Saints fans saying y'all never got any media attention until now...SHUTUP! You guys have been the media darlings of all sporting news since '09. The media has stroked the shaft of the Saints for far too long.
