Just for the record:

1) Most of Tebow’s reamining base salary is guranteed.
2) As such, Denver has advanced him $5 Million’s worth. (Due to it being guranteed, they would be paying it to him one way or the other).
3) With him being traded, Denver wants to get the money they advanced for future years of service that they are never going to get.

The way this would normaly be resolved is: Tebow would repay Denver advanced funds and then yearn it back under his contract. He either does not have the money or is not keen on going to NYJ.

The Jets look bad…but they really shouldn’t look as bad as folks are making it out.

The killer clause isn’t common and Denver never mentioned it. They agreed on what would have to be trade and announced it, never realizing there’d be something like this for their lawyers to find upon review.

The real sin is even trying to make this trade to begin with. For that fact that the stupidity behind that move led us to where we are today, I really think it is time for Tannebaum to go.

i came to like the tebow to jets idea. you’ve got sparano to lead the run first offense. add tebow and you have a strength to it you didn’t otherwise have. there’s “slash” possibilities too. he would be the THIRD STRING qb but would get to play in a variety of alternate roles.
could even give sanchez some push. not because he would replace him but because he knows it’ll be no fun listening to the chanting when the moronic sanchez haters start calling tebow’s name

Just posted a comment that seems to be in limbo…not posted but gone from the “submit” window. won’t repeat it except to say that I’m wondering if this is about the possibility of a salary cap hit for the Jets on the 5 million payout. It’s possible both teams discussed the r mil but neither thought there’d be a salary cap hit until Jets lawyers talked to NFL offices and maybe found out there would be?

That 5 mil has to be accounted for somehow even if it’s waived. It would still apply THIS YEAR to somebody’s cap even if it was accounted back to that team next year.

I find it hard to believe the Jets did such sloppy due diligence on Tebow’s contract that they overlooked this $5M fine print. More likely the Jets got cold feet and are looking for a pretext to nix the deal. I’m guessing one of two things happened here. Either

1) It belatedly sunk into Rex Ryan’s thick skull that, for a multitude of fairly obvious reasons, he and Tebow maaaaaaaay not exactly get along swimmingly together, or

2) The Jets had been hoping to turn around and re-trade Tebow to the Jags, whom they had presumed would be willing to give up a LOT more than a single 4th-rounder – only to find out Mr. Khan wasn’t all that desperate to get Tebow after all. (If that’s the case, then Tebow’s trade value is about to go into free-fall.)
