Are you five? That is just a pitiful post. You weren't targeted. Your coaches took money from a felon to bypass the salary cap and run an illegal bounty program to injure players. Why do you think a felon would want to fund your illegal bounty program if he weren't hoping to make money on it? You know ... by placing a few bets. The Saints are lucky the NFL has tried to sweep this thing under the rug as quickly as possible without revisiting your last Super Bowl run. Grow up.

You do realize it's the responsibility of the criminal justice system to punish people guilty of breaking laws, right? No one in the league found guilty in a court of law of those crimes has been just excused of punishment and sent back onto the field. The commissioner has no right to punish people simply for being accused of a crime with no evidence of wrongdoing--although that hasn't stopped him from doing it.

Your coach was guilty of taking money from a felon to fund an illegal program designed to cause serious injury to other players while cheating the salary cap. If you can't understand how serious that is, you need to rethink.

Some of the NFL's marquee (and most marketable) stars were targeted with bounties, and a year's suspension is the penalty? My take-away from this is that the league knows that this is not a problem unique to the Saints. This isn't a penalty to the Saints as much as it is a warning to the rest of the league.

They paid players and didn’t report it. How much is irrelivant. They took money from a 3rd party to pay the players, another obvious violation, that puts anything the league does in doubt. If a 3rd party can pay player, how long before a guy singns a contract for 1 million a year, but gets paid another 4 on the side?

Eddie DeBartolo did that. $400K to Brent Jones. Cost the 49ers a 3rd and a 5th. And they self-reported the crime instead of trying to cover it up.

Clearly the biggest sin in all of this was the Saints’ lying to the commissioner. The pay-for-injury system would still be punished, but the lying pushed Goodell over the edge.

At least Belichick came clean right away when confronted by the league, otherwise I believe he would have been suspended too.
------------------
You guys are simplistic. Coming clean does not mean your penalty should be less.
A guy who commits a murder can get a plea bargain if he admits to it but it's not a given.

Fact is Belicheat got off much easier. It should have been stiffer penalty. He should have served a 4 game suspension.
All that said, Bounty gate is more serious.

mortimeryoung says: Mar 21, 2012 2:49 PM

I guess you gotta be a dynasty before you can really get away with cheating.

LOL a dynasty?? They are far from that. A true dynasty is a team that dominates their sport for multiple seasons or years. Saints have one asterisk season after all this.

LMAO dynasty...whew thanks for the laugh

Beyond being caught cheating, lying and denying having a bounty system is the officiating in the NFCCG. The officials ignored the late hits and low hits right in front of them. Not throwing flags and then having 5 straight replays called in the Saints favor when the 4th down replay clearly showed they were not only stopped short but fumbled. Bounties are basically a bribe. The real story is who bribed the officials to look the other way. Just like the refs in the NBA. The NFL needs to dig deep into investigating the refs. Same thing with the steelers vs Seahawks SB. The NFL is reluctant because dirty officials will taint the league forever. That is the real story though.

Roger Goodell sucks and is ruining the game of football. It's a mans sport, it's not soccer or baseball, hitting is part of the game.
they even had $5000 to get Rodgers on a stretcher in week 1. more money if you took them out on a stretcher, and more if it was the playoffs.

Every player on that defense should be banned from the league.

they should lose 1,2,3 round picks for 5 years, and be fined atelast 25 million. any offensive player that knew about this should be banned for the year.

they were out to put people in hospitals. the saints were a hit squad for 3 years. shame on you. that superbowl as far as im concerned is worthless now. you're infamous.
