When he was the Lions 3rd stringer in 2010 (when the Lions were still considered the worst team in the NFL), he came in off the bench and won 2 of the 3 games he started. He threw more TDs than Ints. On top of that he was no nonsense, no drama.

So it’s not whether Stanton’s making a ton of money — in point of fact, he could have made more elsewhere. If all he wanted was to collect a paycheck, he could have re-signed with the Lions for the vet minimum and stayed in the state where he was born, raised, played his college ball, and has spent his entire pro career. The Jets bumbled the Stanton pursuit and the Tebow trade, and should in fairness do something about it.

The signing bonus can’t be “undone.” The contract can’t be rescinded. I wouldn’t blame the Jets for trading him rather than cutting him, but I *would* blame them for hanging onto him as a #3.

And I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Denver as a potential landing spot yet.

A) Incompetence. It was foolish to guarantee or otherwise give an assurance that they would not bring in another QB. A savvy GM does not ever let a player dictate roster moves to the organization. In addition, Tannenbaum “flubbed” the contract language in the Tebow contract and screwed that up. Previously, Tannenbaum brought a cancerous Santonio Holmes onto the team and signed him to contract that completely handcuffs the franchise. Foolish moves all the way around.

B) Tannenbaum’s “word” can now be considered meaningless. Basically, no free agent in the future will ever be able to trust what Tannenbaum and the Jets are selling. Not a good thing.

It seems to me that Tannenbaum doesn’t simply make an occasional misread on a player in the draft or something that all GM’s are susceptible to, but rather the frequency of major screw ups and bad judgement spells out a blatant case of incompetence. And now, his “word” (integrity/reputation) is crap.

Tough for me to read it any other way.

Seriously people. Sanchez and Tebow might not be all-pros, but there is a reason why they have 5 career playoff wins and Stanton has 5 career TD passes.

The same unfounded praise happened last year for Ordinary Orton. The Tebow-haters praised him simply because he played on the same team as Tebow.

All you need to do is look to Brady Quinn. Quinn had a strong camp last year, competed with Kyle Orton for the starting job and clearly dominated Tebow for the back up job.

He had every reason to believe that if Orton faltered, he would get an opportunity. Yet the Broncos succumbed to fan pressure and elevated Tebow.

Stanton knows now that no matter what he does in camp or the preseason games, no matter how clearly he beats out Tebow for the back up job (and believe me, he will. Whatever Tebow fans say about him just being a “winner”, his tape and statistics are consistently horrible), it will Tebow the fans will be clamoring for if/when Sanchez falters.

Surely you can’t be sure about that. Everything this franchise has done under Tannenbaum smacks of knee-jerk and impulse.

This is a (dis)organization that’s aimless and clueless from top to bottom, and the impulsive, confused nature of the front office, as well as the locker room dysfunction are all products of that. I do not envy Jets fan. What a mess this is.

Why? Tim Tebow. Tebow could have a 26% completion pct., have 1TD-10INTs in the preseason and Stanton could have the flipside (62% 10TD 1INT) and Tebow would stull make the team over him.

If he leaves the team now he still has a chance to catch on as many teams still need back-up QBs. At the end of August, most teams already have their back-ups set. The Jets owe it to the man to let him go while he can still find a job rather to let him believe he actually has a chance only to get cut with the last Turk visit.

Promise anything to close the deal — then go and do what you want.

Sounds like POTUS is running the Jets.

Seriously though, has anybody thought that this tebow thing is done to take some of the socialite pressure off Sanchez? instead of worrying about sucking as he sucks, he can just go out and play and suck (or succeed).

Then imagine this scenerio? Sanchez is awful, how long til the Tebow chants? then Tebow goes in and sucks.. where oh where does it end for the Jets. The pats are the pats, the bills seem to be making strides, the phins wont amount to anything until they rid themselves of Jeff Ireland ( actually the NFL should rid themselves of this clown) and the jets are a sideshow circus.
