Bengals announce signings of Anthony Collins, Derrick Harvey

The Cincinnati Bengals announced Friday that they have re-signed offensive tackle Anthony Collins, and added defensive end Derrick Harvey to the roster.

Harvey is a former first-round pick out of Florida. The Jaguars were swindled by the Ravens in a draft-day trade to acquire Harvey in 2008. The Jags picked Harvey at No. 8 overall, and the Ravens came away with the No. 26 pick, two third-rounders, and a fourth-round pick the following year.

Baltimore turned two of the picks into a trade up for quarterback Joe Flacco, while Harvey has managed eight sacks in 52 career appearances.

Collins was the No. 39 overall player on the PFT Hot 100. The 25-year-old will return as the Bengals’ No. 3 offensive tackle behind Andrew Whitworth and Andre Smith.

“Missing Gene” Smith’s legacy as head of scouting with the Jaguars. Don’t know what keeps the guy employed down there.

    _______

That was the same year that the Vikings traded the #18 pick and two third-round picks for Jared Allen.

Glad to have Collins back for O-line depth…not too sure about the Harvey signing. I would have rather re-signed Fanene or Rucker. Although, reports are that they will have one or two more signings done very soon….Pat Sims???

    Excellent moves by the Bengals.

Now if we can just bring Sims back, we can call it a day!

Be interested in seeing their records. Both Pro and criminal.

Harvey is going to be tough to replace, what is Denver going to do with out Harvey? BAHHAA this guys is a bust.

  9. t8ertot says: Mar 23, 2012 4:45 PM

Haven’t heard of the guy but it sounds like he hasn’t seen much action. Hopefully he has some potential.

    Go Bengals! Who Dey!

Wait, so the #39 free agent on your list of top 100 is only the 3rd best tackle on his team??? Wouldnt that mean he was rated too high?

  11. scarletmacaw says: Mar 23, 2012 5:00 PM

Swindle? In what universe can that possibly be true. When has any other team managed to move up anywhere close to 18 slots in the first round without surrendering a pick higher than a 3rd?

It was the selection that was the Jags problem.

Bengals are the only AFC North team that is improving.
They still need a LB or 2 though. Lawson may be gone, Maualuga may be suspended, Rivers may never play again… Maybe Moch and Muckelroy will be healthy and pan out but who knows.

    Is Rucker better than Harvey?

  14. theredbengal says: Mar 23, 2012 5:18 PM

    @Jade Amor

Actually, Collins was rated about where he should have been. It just so happens that, for whatever reason, the guy isn’t given a chance. Clearly not by the 0ther 31 teams. My Bengals haven’t even really given the guy a fair shake. He’s a solid tackle, and I could rattle off about 30 OT’s in the league that he’s better than.

Typical Bengals. With plenty of money under the cap they swap Fanene, who had 6.5 sacks last year, for a guy who has 8 sacks in 4 years.

I’m thinking my Bengals will start A. Collins at RT, move A. Smith to RG and use Harvey in a rotation the same way they used Rucker and Fanene, all in all I think my team just improved. Besides am expecting to hear we re-signed Sims today and wouldn’t be surprised if we sign C. Lofton since we made a push for K. Wimbley.

Bungles are trash. They’ll take a huge step backwards this year. This time next year their “fans” will be back under their rocks.

You sound like an angry jealous Browns fan who can’t seem to find a quarterback for more than half a season. Wasn’t last year supposed to be the year Colt and the Browns took giant steps forward and instead they both took GIANT steps backwards?

    Weird..

Coincidently I am both a gator and a bengals fan. Harvey played great for the gators. It’s not all about how a player has fulfilled their expectations but also how well they are coached. How well have the jags been the past 4 years? Maybe they need some new coaches…

  20. rickybobbie says: Mar 23, 2012 7:43 PM

Good signing – with some coaching from Zimmer he may become more productive. Let’s get Pat Sims signed and a couple linebackers, then sit back and get ready for a good draft.

  21. mac3333 says: Mar 23, 2012 7:49 PM

Reggie Nelson, another Jacksonville castoff resurrected his career in Cincinnati under Mike Zimmer. Lets hope another former Gator follows suit.

  22. rajbais says: Mar 23, 2012 11:24 PM

Derrick Harvey is a big reason why a 4-3 defensive end is the new bust position!!!!!

He, Lawrence Jackson, Erasmus James, Jamaal Anderson, Vernon Gholston, Derrick Morgan, Brandon Graham, Jarvis Moss, Aaron Maybin in Buffalo only, etc.

Offense and quarterbacks are sexy to show so DE busts are never talked about!!!

Media and Derrick Harvey supporters = STUPID!!!

Agreed. Reggie Nelson came to us from the Jags and was supposed to be a bust, but Mike Zimmer and co helped him turn his career around. Hope they can do the same thing with Derrick Harvey.
