So Drew Stanton demands a trade and ends up on a team where he is practically guaranteed to ride the pine forever. This reminds me of the story about Steve Beuerlein and Al Davis. Beuerlein wanted out, so Davis dealt him to the Cowboys who had just drafted Troy Aikman. Take that!

whoa, whoa, whoa…Drew Stanton…We’re talking about Drew Emeric Stanton…C’mon..he’s a never was…Sanchez HAS struggled…but he’s also won some big games…Same goes for Tebow… That’s your 1 and 2 on the depth chart. Stanton is not better than those guys.. Stanton is 2 or 3 on the colts depth chart currently and he’s the only qb on the roster.

The Wildcat has been figured out by the NFL so what can Tebow really do on the field for the Jets? he can’t throw and everyone knows it. This is a mess that will kill the Jet’s season even before it starts.

Drew Stanton is the only QB that probably has the most upside. Everything goes against him to prove he is better than most #2 QB playing.

Stanton never “kicked butt” when he started for the Lions. Being the QB when your team wins a 7 – 3 ballgame is not even in the same zipcode as kicking butt.

Ryan Leif could at least score 7 points with Calvin Johnson on the field.

As a Lions fan, I can’t even believe that anything related to the former 3rd string QB is suddenly newsworthy.

Stanton isnt very good. He runs to early, and if he does get yardage its because of dump-off yac. He will not get it downfield. I could see him being successful as a packaged wildcat qb, but I believe Tebow is harder to take down while running and he can get it downfield a little better…Lion fan and I dont care for tebow as a qb.

Best case scenario for Stanton. He’s still #2 but now behind a unknown, at least as far as the NFL is concerned, on a rebuilding team. Plus he’s out of the circus that is, and will be, the Jets.

No matter Luck or RG3, Indy will be tolerant of their rookie mistakes and not likely to pull their rookie QB that fast but he’s an injury away now of full time starting. Think of Miami or Chicago last year.

No, what he was afraid of was what happened to Brady Quinn last year.

Quinn went into camp in Denver and kicked the crap out of Tebow in the battle for the number 2 QB spot behind Orton.

He had every reason to believe he would be given a shot if Orton got hurt or replaced. Instead, the Broncos gave in to fan hysteria and jumped Tebow over him.

Stanton knew that no matter how well he played in camp and the preseason, no matter how decisively he beat out Tebow for #2, he would never get a shot in NY.

And he’s right.

MDS – thanks for the update with the trade details.

Indy fans should be happy. Stanton was a winner at Michigan State, and when he played for the Lions in 2010, he won games. (Stafford and Shaun Hill were injured, Stanton came in as a 3rd stringer and kicked butt!)

He didn’t live up to what we all want from a high second round pick, but he developed into a solid backup (after Matt Millen was shown the door).

A solid backup QB who can win games and doesn’t generate controversy is definitely a nice-to-have.

I’m glad the Jets did the right thing and traded him to a team that needs a solid 2nd stringer. And Indy is relatively close to home for him too.

Luck is fragile and has been pampered all his life. His college O-line at Stanford is going to put two first rounders in the NFL. That’s better NFL talent than the Colts have on their line.

What the heck are you talking about? I can’t make sense of this post, but it sounds like you are making a pitch for Stanton. Stanton can’t carry Luck’s jockstrap. The Colts are taking that man with the #1 overall pick and will have Stanton beat out the first day of camp. And apparently the Jets think he can’t carry Tebow’s jockstrap either. Those are NFL teams, not the media, making those calls.
