Another aspect of this cannot go unaddressed: The anti-bounty crusade is still another move by the league that is designed to favor offense over defense; have we yet heard of even ONE incident in which an offensive player was offered a bounty to take out a defensive player – say, via a chop block or leg whip?

How far will the NFL go to tilt the playing field in favor of the offense? Will the typical over-under line on an NFL game soon be 80?

Dont you just love revisionist history? Vikings players will have you believe that Saints players were going for Favre’s knees, hitting him late and hitting him after the whistle. The problem is, that didn’t happen.

If the hits on Favre were so heinous why didn’t anybody associated with the Vikings organization complain about it until news of the bounties came out? Why werent Vikings players complaining then? They didnt complain, because there was nothing to complain about. Not only is it a punk move, its disingenous for players like Sullivan to act like something was taken away from them. Favre got punished because of a porous line, not because of illegal hits. Its time for the Vikings and their fans to move on. No amount of crying is going to get you a Super Bowl trophy.

The Vikings did in fact complain immediately after the 2009 NFCCG to the League, not only about calls they thought the officials missed, but also on the bounty on Favre. In fact, one of the Saints’ players was indeed fined $20,000 for an illegal hit on Favre after the fact, even though there was no flag thrown during the game — a fact for which Periera apologized. The only reason there was no action taken right away on the bounty was because, when confronted by the NFL, the Saints organization lied through its teeth…and lied…and lied some more. Only after someone came forward recently with evidence did the NFL reopen its investigation into the bounty system, and we all know what happened with that.

As a Vikings fan, I don’t want your SB trophy. Enjoy it. However, I would say that after alll these years, you should not be surprised that Vikings fans are thoroughly enjoying your predicament, brought on only by your organization’s arrogance and stupidity…and a little tip from the Vikings that there was a bounty in place on Favre during that 2009 NFCCG.

Most of the lightweights on this site feel the championship is tainted, but the overwhelming majority of the people (in New Orleans) that actually cover (the Saints) absolutely shoot down any notion of asterisks or tainted titles.

As for those who make excuses for the refs, I say why should we — all NFL fans, who spend our money, time and energy following our favorite teams passionately — have to put up with bad officiating? Most fans can accept losing a game when the other team plays better. But, nothing irks and frustrates a fan more than having his/her favorite team lose because of bad officiating.

Let’s demand that the NFL improves the officiating by hiring full-time refs, having refs in the booth watching replays to assist the refs on the field, investigating possible bias and corruption involving the refs, conducting detailed performance analysis of the refs’ on-field work and firing any ref who demonstrates incompetence or bias.

The players will take this into their own hands if the league doesn’t. Suspending a few players may make future players think twice before trying this again, and if that makes everyone put it behind them, then that should be the way to go.

I don’t think Brees has to worry about a thing. The man has the quickest release in the league defenders barely get to breathe on him before the ball is gone, and if you don’t think that the officials are going to be looking for retaliation payback then you’re a fool, and if you think that it’s smart for any players to put a “bounty” on Brees after all this then you’re just plain stupid.

Does it guarantee that Marshawn Lynch is immune to tackles or that the 49ers have a beast of a defense or a machine at tight end?

Does it guarantee an offense that’s produced 2 5,000 yard passing seasons?

I just want to point out how funny it is to see all these “world champs!!!” posts from Saints fans. No, you are not. The Giants are world champs. Before they won it, the Packers were the world champs.

The Saints are the champs of nothing, no more than the Phillies are the world champs, or the Blackhawks, or the Celtics, or any other team that won years ago.

You are the champs the same way the Rams are. Deep in the past.

Let’s look at this issue solely on the face of it. Someone offered another person money to injure a targeted individual.

It’s illegal on the face; both from the person offering the payment, and the person aiming to injure someone else. Just because it has “gone on forever” in some form doesn’t make it acceptable in any capacity.

Let the Saints keep their illgotten trophy; but take action against the people that were involved, throw them out of the league and behind bars.

As a Viking fan, this covers the known. Yes, the Saints did beat us due to turnovers and coach Clueless. My complaint on this, isn’t the Saints. They won the game, it’s in the books, nothing can be done about it, history. Yes, the non-calls by that officiating group(if you want to call it that) was downright atrocious. My complaint is against Mr. Sullivan and the rest of the Viking group that was on that field that day that was paid to protect Favre. Why did you being witness to these flagrant cheap shots, not give out on the field justice to those who committed these acts? You saw first hand how the game was being called. Why did you not respond immediately in kind to those who delivered the blows that you now say were done and makes you sick to your stomach? The allowance of these cheap shots during the game without retribution is what sickened me.

Funny, i once saw McNabb finish and win a game with a broken ankle. But he also wasn’t 41 years old. Moral of the story, don’t bring a guy out of retirement and think he can still play.

Uh, Sullivan, yeah it is your job to prevent those hits by actually BLOCKING for your QB because you’re an Offensive LINEMAN.

That said, I agree with him about the outrage over bountygate. Why should the punter’s comments be dismissed just because he’s a punter? He’s on the field and in the lockerroom with these guys. Why should a center’s comments lend more credence (other than the fact that he blocked like crap for Favre)?
