when you hear the details it looks like it was being done very openly... but when you hear the players speak (even the ones who are x saints or retired players), they flat out deny...

IMO this would have been a very common practice in entire NFL... you think about steelers vs raven games... they are clearly trying to injure each other...

the saints are just poster child for this problem... but the problem exists in entire system...

a statement had to be made... well done!
but what took you guys so long!

Bounties are horrible, I get that. However, how can you tell if someone is going full speed and making a huge hit on a quarterback to a player intentionally trying to break the QB's back and ruining his career?

‘Brad Johnson doesn’t finish this game,’ Does this mean "i want him brain dead and never walk again"? or does this mean "I want him on the ground every pass play and make him never want to play us ever again. Make him feel pain and make him crawl off the field"

Because my High School Defensive Coordinator always used to say "put a huge hit on the guy with the ball" or "Go out and knock someone the f*ck out" but that never meant one guy go low and the other go high and tear his legs off it was just simple football.

I am a huge Eagles fan and the Redskins and Eagles game with Buddy Ryan, the game that was called The Body Bag Game. Was that a bounty or was that just a plain old-fashioned football game? If we had a game like that now-a-days that team would have been out of the league because of how big this one story got.

I understand bounties are a disgrace to the game but there is a difference between a coordinator telling his team to knock the piss out of the opposing offense to where as a coordinator telling his MLB to break every QB's neck

But I feel like all NFL players are going to be playing two hand touch from now on because of how big this story got from the media.

It's just my opinion about it.

spammerhead says:Mar 23, 2012 2:24 PM

I hope that the media will begin to make a bigger deal about the other teams where player have admitted to this behavior. What the Saints did is wrong and they should be punished, but all Saints fans and many other NFL fans are disgusted and irate at the disproportionate treatment of only punishing the Saints for this. I realize this is the biggest fear of the NFL because of potential liability issues and they wish it woul just go away, but is it fair to wreck one team and bury your head in the sand concerning other teams that are just as guilty?

Only if the media will start to focus on other examples will the NFL be forced to look at other teams and dispense some form of penalty on all guilty parties. Let’s be honest. The behavior is despicable and any team where it’s happened should be penalized as well.

Saints fans have a right to be upset because they are being made a sacrificial lamb while others get off scot-free. Any teams fan base would be mad about that. However, Saints players, coaches, and front office should be accountable for their part in a larger league problem. This isn’t just a Saints issue, even though God-dell wants you to think that so the NFL doesn’t get sued.

duece5 says:

spammer, you are trying to suger-coat this into the "everyone is doing it model" like many other taints fans!

It has totally destoyed the "feel good" taints story, but too bad. The taints are the only team to LIE to Goodell for 3 years, told him they WEREN'T doing it (LIES), the GM told the owner he would take care of it (LIES), the head coach said he had no idea it was going on (LIES), Vilma offered 10k to knock Favre out, they hit him high low-ILLEGAL-on and on.

The problem is, you want the NFL to investigate the "probability" that it went on with other teams. Not the way it works. The taints actions were so bad, with an "eff you" to the Commissioner in the form that they continued it, FOR 3 FREAKING YEARS, were told to END IT----they DIDN'T!!!!

They were the most pmpous, effyou team in the league.

Now, your super bowl "win" is tarnished FOREVER.

Live with it.

If a whistleblower can bring to the NFL office with credible evidence of other bounties, then an investigation , can , and will happen. Why? Because if it IS credible, then the NFL could be held liable for not doing anything.

Could there be 31 black eyes? Doubtful.
But, until other evidence comes up that other teams were as aggressive as the saints, you're just assuming (and hoping).

HANDLE IT!!!!

Gregg should’ve taken that $15k and dropped it on the Vikes to win. Probably should’ve worried more on beating opponent than injuring their QB. Lifetime ban for Gregg…and everyone else involved.

If he had done what you suggested, then he would have gotten "Pete Rose-d", triggering the lifetime ban long before gettting his Super Bowl ring with the Saints.

This is really sad how pussified this country and this planet is becoming. It's freaking FOOTBALL for f's sake! Are you trying to tell me Lawrence Taylor or James Harrison or Jack Lambert weren't trying to knock the QB out of the game WITHOUT a bounty every single time they made a tackle? So why is it different when these players get paid a couple extra grand by their coach for trying to knock players out of games when they already get paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for trying to knock players out of games? And if you think everyone on defense isn't trying to knock key play-makers out of games as a strategy to increase their odds of winning, then you don't know anything about football. Everyone needs to grow up and stop acting like football is NASA or a Cure for Cancer, because it's not! It's entertainment. Our lives are so sh*tty that we have to pretend to be appalled and disgusted that there's organized violence in a sport based on violence, just to make ourselves feel better. They're trying to fundamentally change this game that we all love right in front of our eyes and you are all supporting this change by voicing your disgust over this "scandal" and asking for harsher penalties because it's only going to lead to the league enforcing even more their BS "player safety" agenda (While trying to extend the season another 2 games... figure out that conundrum). This is all about the league protecting their investments in their most popular players (the QBs) and avoiding future lawsuits from players suffering concussions. The league doesn't give a sh*t about player safety. Once again, THIS IS FOOTBALL! If the players don't want a giant neanderthal running full speed at them trying to take their head off, then THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE MADE A CHOICE TO PLAY FOOTBALL... go collect trash or work in an office or flip burgers like the millions of other people in this country who weren't blessed with physical gifts!

Please people, get your facts straight. One, the NFL TOLD the Saints, we have heard about a bounty program, end it now. The Saints response was we DON'T have a bounty program. So they lied to Goodell and continued the program. Three, not only did the Saints have a program but a twice convicted felon (fraudulently selling NFL jerseys! Fourth, Safety of players/100+ concussion lawsuits is reason enough for this to stop. Those lawsuits will target the NFL, and should target the NFLPA as well. If I was one of those players I would be suing whoever Goodell names on the Saints personally if I can. The Saints got slammed because they lied, plain and simple.
