Saints agree to terms with linebacker Chris Chamberlain

Chris Chamberlain AP

Adam Caplan reports that the Saints have agreed to terms on a three-year deal with outside linebacker Chris Chamberlain.

Chamberlain, 26, started 13 games last season, playing for new Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in St. Louis. Chamberlain recorded a career-most 81 tackles. He chipped in an additional two sacks, a forced fumble, and one interception.

Primarily a weak-side linebacker, Chamberlain’s addition could threaten Scott Shanle’s starting job and/or roster spot. Shanle’s base salary is only $1.05 million, but the Saints may want to get younger at the position.

They could do so effectively by playing Chamberlain over him.

Not very well known to most fans but as a Ram’s fan I can tell you he filled in very nicely. Total ballhawk..can find his way to the Rb and or wr. Decent pick up for the Saints

Vilma on the way to being punished?

Hopefully this means that Scott Shanle is out and Chamberlain can split the snaps with Jonathan Casillas

We’re not done signing LB’s yet!!!

Yeah, hopefully Lofton or Hawthorne will join up as well

So does this mean that there’s no more talks to be held with Curtis Lofton?

The Saints may need to sign an entire new defense by the time all of the punishment is dished out.

So what happens the next time somebody get’s blown up and carted of the field?

now just to lock up Lofton and show Vilma and Shanle the door and they should be set. Also trade or release Harper. Spags doesnt like to send a SS on every blitz and the dude cant cover a OT, so he’s gotta go as well

I don’t really think Chamberlain is that much of an upgrade, but I do agree Scott Shanle has got to go.

I figured they’d pick up Dengar (10 points for those who get this joke).

this is fine and dandy, but we need to sign brees and keep him happy to have at least a fighting chance at a wildcard spot.

Chambo is notable loss for the Rams. He’s not a great athlete by any stretch of the imagination but he is a bull against the run. Good pick up for Spags.

I hope his contract includes bounty bonuses for tax purposes.

How many of the 22-27 players in the “evidence” are still part of the Saints?

That’s right, Godell and his minions were going back 3 years. Most of those defense players have moved on to other teams. Man, I feel sorry for teams that are coming up against the Saints this season. Hell yeah!!!
