APFree agent defensive end Andre Carter was the Patriots’ best pass rusher for the majority of the 2011 season. He racked up 10 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles in 14 games.
But Carter tore his left quadriceps on December 18, and was lost for the season’s remainder. And he’s still nursing the injury.
According to Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald, Carter is still “limping heavily” more than three months after the muscle tear. Carter was in Foxboro on Saturday for a medical checkup.
As evidenced by his 2011 performance, a healthy Carter can still bring plenty of pass-rushing pressure going on age 33. It sounds like he’s nowhere near 100 percent, however.
And that explains why Carter has not yet been signed.

Hard injury to comeback from….best of luck to him.
Hope the Pats resign him but most likely hell start the season on PUP
good solid player i still remember when my niners drafted him..but because of salary cap purge we let him go
Looks like he’s done, too bad.
he was an awesome patriot
I think there’s a handshake deal and he wants to come back. Even if he sits on PUP until wk 10 it’d still be worth it. It’s always good to have a hard working vet around all the young defensive players. Nine of the starters were drafted in the last 3 yrs and there’s reason to think most should improve. He was one of their best defensive players last yr (I know, that’s not saying much).

One minute Carter is a team leader on a Super Bowl contender. The next his career is in jeopardy. Life in the NFL can be harsh.
.
And a better SKIN! God love him
Hope they resign him, he still has something left in the tank. Worst case scenario he starts the season on the PUP.
Bad injury. Tore mine when I was 15 running out a hit on a field full holes, mud and a loose first base bag, and went from blazing fast to purely average overnight. I was 5-7 and could grab a basketball rim -then lost at at least a half-foot on my jump. You never realize how important it is until it goes bust on you.
So Carter can hardly walk, and Bill let Anderson go to a division rival? Guess he’ll have to lure Andre Tippett out of retirement
he is awesome at his job
heal fast bill needs you back at 100%
Love this guy. Hope he recovers 100% and returns to the Pats. He was so, so good for the team on and off the field.
