Poor cap management; all you can say. Their first really successful season followed by having to release a bunch of key veterans because they were too “up against” the cap?

Anyone calling Arrowhead a dump has obviously never been there. Slamming another fan’s stadium and the team that plays there is just plain stupid. I really, really dislike the Cowboys, and their owner. As for their stadium, it is way over the top. But guess what, I don’t have to go there. And as fans, we all have opinions, but you should get a history of success before you start bashing.

Doesn’t matter I don’t know why everyone is making a big deal.
1 Mario was always overhyped
2 Brisiel has been in a battle with Caldwell the last 2 seasons for that job- 1&1A. He easily replaces him.
3 Nobody gave Winston credit until Houston cuts him. Now he’s all world. His replacement imo is on the roster and is more consistent. (Butler).
4 love Dreeson but it’s time for him to get paid somewhere. Plus Graham has played well when given the chance and is more athletic. If he fails Casey will be there to pick it up, hes the real stud imo.
5 We all saw what TJ “baby” Yates was able to do. Clearly a competent back up.
6 no need to get anybody in FA all the starters are on the roster. Sharpton takes Demecos place. He played better in this system last year. Demeco is strictly a 4-3 beast. So all the positions are filled without missing a beat. Just drafting for depth. 2 of the draft picks won’t even make the team because of good depth the team already has.

This isn’t ‘awful’ work by the Texans front office. People tend to fall in the ‘if they gave tons of money to players they had a great offseason’ or ‘if they didn’t give a ton of money to players they had a bad offseason’ camps.

This was purely an evaluation as to the worth of these players to the team based on their salaries.

Sure, they could have given Mario $100 MM if they wanted – but it would have crippled them for years. It would have been absolutely asinine. I like Mario, wish we could have kept him, I know we couldn’t; I wish him the best.

Why on earth would you want to keep DeMeco, as good as he is? Cushing is better and faster, and cheaper from a salary perspective, and signed through 2013. DeMeco counts $8 MM/yr against the cap and comes out on passing downs, and is still recovering from a torn Achilles. That much $ is not worth it for a 2 down player.

The Winston cut is the one that surprised me, but he didn’t have a great pass blocking year (although run blocking he was very good), and I suspect his knee surgery in January wasn’t as successful as everyone thinks.

Brisiel – $20 MM – way too much for him.

Dreessen – wish him well, but we have Owen Daniels, G. Graham and J. Casey. Can’t pay multimillions at every position for multiple people.

This is a proactive move by the front office to enable them to resign Matt Schaub, Duane Brown (one of the best LT all around in the game), Glover Quin and Connor Barwin next year. We have a lot of talent now, and a lot coming up for contracts. Can’t sign all of them, so this year we lost a bunch.

Remember – when you have a great draft, exactly 4 years later the bill comes due on those players. 2009 was a pretty good Texan draft (Cushing, Barwin, Quin) and they are going to want to be paid.

does any team in the nfl draft as good as the texans? it’s unbelievable how strong they draft each year and how loaded they are with talent. i guess they haven’t had enough prolonged success to just ignore high priced free agents, keep their own playmakers, and keep everyone happy.

thats why the packers dont sign top free agents except every other decade. and they dont trade top talent for shabby draft picks. I admit its tough as a packer fan for our big free agent signings to be Saturday and Muir, but then again we arent losing everyone either.

This is just awful work by the Texans Front Office. I’m beginning to to think the 2011 season was a fluke and the only reason we did do well was Wade Phillips defense and his drafting skills. No playoffs this year and the city will become restless like in 2010.
