Up goes the first Tebow billboard in New York

ny_tebowts_576

It’s only a matter of time before someone puts up a billboard in New York (possibly Times Square) urging the Jets to bench Mark Sanchez and roll with Tim Tebow.

Two days in advance of the most anticipated press conference for any backup quarterback in NFL history, the first Tebow billboard officially is in place, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

As of 12:00 p.m. ET Saturday, Jockey placed a billboard outside Lincoln Tunnel.  Bearing a picture of Tebow’s face, the billboard says, “We support Tebow & New York.”

In a statement released by the company, Jockey said that the billboard “plants a stake in the ground that NYC is now officially Tebow-country.”

Mark Sanchez most likely does not approve of this message.

Maybe Tebow being a NY Jet will help plant a fire under Sanchez’s butt.
    Go Eagles.

Jockey are also in negotiations for ad space with the condo across the street from where Mark Sanchez lives.

Never really a fan of either NY team, but I would definately choose Eli over Tebow-you know, the QB of a NY team that has won two Super Bowls in 4 years .

  5. tebowmagic says: Mar 24, 2012 3:40 PM

I just don’t understand why the Jets did this. It doesn’t benifit anyone, it just reassures the fact that the Jets don’t know what they’re doing.

  6. chrisritch93 says: Mar 24, 2012 3:41 PM

Big deal, everyone’s making money off of him , just as you do !! You billboard him here every chance you get.

  7. chiadam says: Mar 24, 2012 3:41 PM

And here we go. Can we at least have mandatory prison time for fans that put up billboards? I think we should. It frees up more food and parking spaces for real people.

In NY there’s such an outcry that Tebow will take Sanchez job. Nobody ever seems to consider that Tebow is NOT an NFL caliber quarterback. Tebow can’t pass and he can’t read a defense even if he could. All he’s good for is 3rd string emergency quarterback, wildcat guy, and special teamer.

It’s like if the reserve middle-infielder was the most popular sports figure in town.

  16. danimal1027 says: Mar 24, 2012 3:47 PM

I can tell you right now the entire Jets blogging community opposes making Tebow the starting quarterback, today, tomorrow or forever.

Of course the entire Jets blogging community still thinks there’s a chance Wayne Hunter might get replaced at RT, so we’re in denial about a lot of things.

This is a report of mine from 3/22 (Bench Sanchez without Benching)

This is all going to end in tears you know.

If Tebowmania swept Orton aside, when Tebowfanaticism erupts in NYC, Sanchez is going drown in the tsunami.

This is going to go to an unexperienced level. Girls will weep when they see him. Babies will be offered for kisses. Politicians will want picutres. Poparazzi will follow him around. There will be pics of him daily in all those NY papers (with the exception maybe of the NY Times). When he goes into a restaurant people will scream. There will be no other stories.

There will not be enough Tebow to go around.

This is going to be insane.

A football fan looks up at that billboard and sees Tim Tebow a guy who may never be an NFL caliber player.

A mother looks up at that billboard and sees honor and integrity and a trustworthy soul.

This guy is never going to rape some girl in a bathroom, get arrested for DUI, run anyone over, have a possible future wife beat him with a golf club, this guy is safe, he’s advertiser’s gold.

Expect a lot more of these billboards in NY.

and of course Sanchez is pissing his pants…

  39. 4evrnyt says: Mar 24, 2012 4:13 PM

Sanchez is going to totally fold under the pressure because he’s an immature little brat.

The distraction along with Sanchez’s mediocre ability plus his total lack of leadership will cause him to play even worse then normal and Tebow will be starting by week 4 IF Sanchez even survives pre-season.

  40. staff2cj4td says: Mar 24, 2012 4:15 PM

  41. steeltuff says: Mar 24, 2012 4:16 PM

If we were sick and tired of Tebowmania in Denver, we’re REALLY gonna be now. The Jets must not think highly of Sanchez or they wouldn’t have signed Tebow, a move which already has started a circus atmosphere in New York.

I’ll wait until preseason to make a judgement, the whole things in Sanchez hands and he will rise to the pressure or crumble. It’s his job to lose as he was drafted to win games Period, if he does it he keeps his job if not he’s Dust.

  54. tombrookshire says: Mar 24, 2012 4:57 PM

I guess now Tebow has to go to Jockey and tell him to take it down or Sanchez will be angry with him (a la Orton’s hissy fit with Tebow when the billboard went up in Denver and he didn’t ask the poster to take it down because it didn’t support the starter Orton). What a bunch of girls QBs are.

  55. RexCanCoach says: Mar 24, 2012 4:59 PM

I still submit the entire Jests team and mgmt wears Fruit of the Loom beczu they’re all about as “fruity” as you can be. Seriously though, the Jests went from wanting to the best starting QB in the league (Manning) to the worst starting QB in the league (Tebow)….tells you how desperate they are to replace “their leader”.

David Carr didn’t take a single snap for the Giants in the regular or post-season, but I’m pretty sure he was singing “I got a ring – he got one too” on the plane back from Indy with all his teammates… which may explain why he just re-signed with Big Blue – knowing he probably won’t take a snap in 2012, either.

  64. whatswiththehate says: Mar 24, 2012 6:14 PM

It’s so sad that “Christian boy” like Tim Tebow would allow the media to use him to bully QBs, who they don’t care for, out of their starting jobs.

So much for the WWJD mindset.

Let me give you Tim Tebow fans a reality check, this is NY City we’re talking about. A city where no one player is ever bigger than the team he plays for. So I don’t know why you’re under some delusion that Tim is going to sweep into NY and take over the Jets and the new team name will be Tim Tebow and the Jets.

See how quickly “Linsanity”died down. NYers aren’t fazed by media talk and hype. We want you to deliver. If Tim delivers, we will like him but unlike the mess in Denver, if he doesn’t, his behind will be sitting behind Sanchez.

Eli have won 2 SB with the Giants. You will never see Eli’s name being bigger than the Giants.

NYC isn’t starving for attention. Maybe the Jets are for the time being but attention isn’t a thing this city lacks. And for what it’s worth, Giants and Jets fans share the same stadium and although many of the Giants fans will be messing with the Jets fans about Tim Tebow, if Tim fans get out of hand to the point where the Giant fans are disgusted, Tim will finding himself one miserable guy in NY. You don’t want NY fans hating you.

There are 9 teams that call NY/NJ home. They are teams that can stand on their own. Some teams may be more successful than others. We don’t need the Tim Tebow circus rolling into this city acting like they’re going to “bless” this city. NYers have a whole lot of famous athletes but none of them are more famous than the teams they played for.

    Please stop your foolishness.

I liken the jets situation to the mouse living in an aquarium. Then the python gets placed in it too. The mouse is already dead, even if he doesn’t know it yet. The python will soon wrap it’s coils around the defenseless mouse. The grip will slowly get tighter. With every move the mouse makes, it brings him closer to death. The python will eventually eat the meek, little mouse. The mouse doesn’t have the tools to defend itself from the DIVINE strength of this ultimate predator.

I’ll preface my comments by saying that I loathe the way Tebow advertises his religion. But I’ll say the same thing I said last year. He’s a winner. It doesn’t mean anything to me that he’s not Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. He has something that makes his team believe in him as a leader and I can tell you that makes him better than a number of quarterbacks who have come through the league with all the tools to be a great quarterback. Often we see teams who have a ton of physical talent and fail to go deep into the playoffs because they don’t have a cohesive team and a leader who players will stand up and play harder for. Then just as often we see teams who don’t have the best talent outperform their expected records because of something unseen and special. Tim Tebow is something special. Whether you like him or not his teammates loved him and his leadership made everyone of them better players. To make it to this level, you have to be good and believe me, every one of these guys are good but it takes just a little something special to be great. This is a team sport and 10.5 players playing there asses off are going to beat 11 players half assing it every single time.

Sanchez and Tebow are Underwear Models, neither is actually a QB. Here’s my vision for their next Commercial or hopefully permanent HBO year round “HardKnocks”… These two come into the Locker wearing their White Skinny Jeans and some kind of stupid GQ type Fedora Hat (that never caught on with the exception of maybe Kevin Federline and a few desperate, but low self-esteem Teens), drops down to their respective Brand of Undies (Jockey and Fruit Of The Loom) and have a “Sword Fight”, while Rex Ryan sucks Sporano’s Toes and mumbles another predictive Super Bowl Victory! The camera pans over to Eli Manning (the Superbowl winning one; not the “deer in the headlights- early in the season one) and he says ” what are you guys doing in MY Lockerroom. I think I smell a “Cleo Award”.

When I see Tebow all I see is another religious bigot that hates gays and women’s reproductive rights. Maybe we all have a different opinion on “Christian values”.
In regards to football, a backup QB should be a good teammate first and support the starter and the franchise without lobbying for himself even if that’s through a surrogate.
    Sincerely,
    Doug Flutie
