Shockey still on Panthers radar

Free agent tight end Jeremy Shockey recently expressed concern that Warren Sapp’s bounty-scandal-snitch allegations against him might put Shockey out of an NFL job.

ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas, however, reports that the Panthers “remain in contact” with Shockey’s agent, and the veteran tight end has informed the club he wants to re-sign for the upcoming season.

Shockey remains an effective run blocker going on age 32, and was a plus in the receiving game last season, as well. Playing alongside Greg Olsen in two-tight end sets, Shockey caught 37 balls for 455 yards and four touchdowns.

Shockey was Carolina’s fifth leading receiver, behind Steve Smith, Jonathan Stewart, Olsen, and Legedu Naanee.

  1. Would be happy to have him back. Hear all the stuff other teams fans say about him but us Panthers fans saw none of that last year. He fit in well, performed well, and was actually a good leader. Only reason we haven’t resigned him already was he wanted too much money, if he will take an amount that works for us, great deal.

  2. I hope Shockey signs with the Pathers so we can get a chance to break his legs at least twice this season! No Bounty on this one, just a open season for some payback. Shockey’s career will be done by the end of this season if it’s not over already. Goodell may make the Pathers sign him so the snitch doesn’t cry and try to sue anyone.

Love the internet tough guys. “We” and “…get a chance to break his legs.” Yeah right. Keep eating your Cheetos there champ. I am sure that Shockey is praying that you don’t suit up and take the field.
