Getty ImagesBill Parcells wasn’t at the NFL owners meetings to address talk that Sean Payton approached him about filling in as Saints coach during Payton’s suspension, but he was in Florida and he was asked about the report.
Parcells was at the Mets-Cardinals spring training game in Jupiter when he was asked by David Lennon of Newsday about whether or not he’s spoken to Sean Payton since news of Payton’s suspension came down. Parcells confirmed that he did speak to Payton “back when it first happened.” Lennon asked if Payton spoke to him about taking the Saints job on an interim basis and Parcells said “not really” and said that “everything is hypothetical right now” when asked if he would be interested in such an arrangement.
The Associated Press also has a quote from Parcells at the baseball game, although it is a more flat “no” to the question of whether or not Payton has spoken to him about the coaching job. Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the two men will meet later this week in Florida to discuss the job.
We’ll obviously be hearing a lot more about this in the days to come, but it doesn’t sound like the Tuna has ruled out a return to the sideline at this point.

“Not really.”
Translation: I’ll be the Saints HC by the end of the week.
May be a good 1 year fix
Bill, this is a new era of football. not like it used to be back in the days, these athletes are pampered and spoiled and dont play for the love of the game anymore, its for the pay of the game, good luck trying to instill a old school phylosophy into these young men nowaday
The Big Tuna in the Big Easy, I can dig it!
His nose is growing again!!!
Is that hypothetically speaking?
I’m suprised nobody asked him about Tebow.
…most overrated figure in NFL history.
Translation: Saints made their bed and now they have to lie in it.
First Interim Head Coach to win Superbowl, rest of NFL U MAD?!?!?!?!
Read between the lines people.
Tuna: “one last run with a superbowl ready team? heh, i’ll see ya in a few weeks”.
I’ll be shocked if we don’t see William Tecumseh Parcells on the Saints sideline next season.
TUNA DAT! Beware…Saints Vs The World!
there are no “knowns.” There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we don’t know. “Donald Rumsfeld aka Bill Parcells”
Translation:
We are currently working out a contract as we speak.
I would bet 10 grand of Vilmas money that parcells is the originator of the Bounty program … He did Coach a coked up Lt right
Everything is hypothetical right now . . . which means it isn’t.
Parcells will keep Payton hidden inside his coat when he is on the sideline and no one will know.
What kind of punishment is it to the saints if they are allowed to replace their scumbag cheating coach with one of the best coaches of all time? This doesn’t sit right with me.
☻☺We win SBs, you should try it.☻☺
Steeler Football League: Real football coming back to you next year
He’s gotta fix that legacy thing RE: Miami.
He should have walked away after Dallas. He would be a conquering hero now, not a borderline HOF coach.
I could see him do it for a year. After all he is 70 and said that the losses stay with you far longer than the wins do.
Welcome to New Orleans Dolphins. Wonder how much damage Tuna can do in one year. Hopefully not that much.
Mercenary
How insecure is Sean Payton? Instead of giving an assisstant a shot and a chance to shine to improve and better their own career, he goes after someone with ZERO chance of affecting his own spot. I guess considering what he’s suspended for, his character and ethics is pretty consistent!
The Big Tuna in the Big Easy.
Good for the Tuna. Get back into football and keep showing everyone how far removed from the game you really are.
Well as long as his role with the Saints has nothing to do with talent acquisition or buying the groceries as Parcells once called it, he will be ok as an interim coach.
Parcells in the news again………..seems almost favreian like.
He’s still got the “juice”.
Projected conversation next week:
Payton: Interested in interim coaching position?
Parcells: Yes and for same $ as you were getting.
Payton: Okay; but you will have to leave next year so I can return.
Parcells: Yep……….April Fools’
Why not? His last couple stops were rebuilding effort. This time he’d get to step into a fully-formed offense that can be a legit contender. You’d have to be *really* burned out to let this opportunity pass you by…
Bill Parcells has never been adverse to taking easy money from chumps. I’m sure he’d be happy to add a few million from the Saints to his mounting pile of cash.
Stick with your race horces Bill. You don’t need the agrivation. Saratoga meet is coming up in August. For your own sake…Focus on that.
Parcells time has passed. Bottomline.
Saints won’t bow. Don’t know how.
It’s all hypotheticals until the Saints start dropping 50 burgers in September. The rest of the league is on notice.
The Tuna returns? This could be interesting in the Big Easy!
“everything is hypothetical right now”
Translation:
“I haven’t signed on the dotted line…yet…..CHAMPIONSHIP!!!”
Smells like desperation to me…
The league should make them have Mike Ditka come back and run things.
Before the draft.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a great idea? Aside from the clock restarting on Parcell’s Hall of Fame induction, I think this is a great situation for the Saints and Sean Payton. Parcells hasn’t been built to carry a franchise for more then a few years anyway. He gets in, he gets out, and he has a chance to get his 3rd Super Bowl, a legitimate chance. I’m all for this. Might sound crazy but I think it could work!
what is the point of the suspensions if they can hire someone to fill the voids?
This makes too much sense NOT to happen. Bill may want to wait and see just HOW decimated the defense is before agreeing, but as of now- this seems a ‘win-win.’
How lucky would the saints be to get Bill P. for coach. If I were the NFL, I’d really penalize the saints by making Spags the coach with Billy Devaney as interim G.M. Now that’s punishment.
Great rack Bill. Looks like he’s ready to lead the team……..to The French Quarter to chow down on all the finest fried foods that N.O. has to offer.
Parcells to Payton – in his best Mike Meyers voice:
“I’m bigger than you, I’m higher on the food chain… GET IN MY BELLY!”
The game has passed him by? Are you insane. The Phins have sucked since he left. They weren’t great while he was there but I’m sure you idiots forgot what they looked like from satan I mean Saban and then cam camrod. They were the worst team in football. Parcels brought them back to respectability in 2years. Parcells is the best coach alongside JJ since B Walsh.

…most overrated figure in NFL history
————
While he is pretty overrated, I think the title of most overrated figure in NFL history has to go to Belicheat.
People keep talking about his greatness (mainly in Boston) but he cheated his way to some “championships”.
