I think it's pretty impressive what the saints are doing. Yes everything that is going on is their fault. But considering the ish that is hitting the fan right now they are being great at being pro active. Loomis is being one of the most active GMs. Being aggressive with limited Cap space. I have no doubt that the Brees deal will get done.

As for Big Tuna. Y not have your mentor come in and watch your team for a year. He just needs an athority figure there, someone with the same type of bravado. He knows that Carmichael will have the offense on check and Spags can focus on the D. Plus you have someone that is not a threat to keep the job once the suspension is over. Great job by SP.

As for the Rooney rule. Hell I'm Hispanic interview me. I know I have no chance but I can say I was interviewed by the Saints. As for Tomlin I might be wrong but I believe he was an internal hire which means they didn't have to interview a minority. So he is not an example of the Rooney rule working.

So how does a guy who’s suspended … and who is not supposed to be having anything to do with the football operations of the Saints … how does he approach Bill Parcells about being the interim coach without violating the very nature of 'suspension'?
====================================
i find it hard for someone to ask that when everytime u posted on the subject of "bounty" chimed in with jokes about the saints. seems to me u only read headers in your thirst to be first. yes i root for the saints and still will- just be knowledgeable. with all ur comments it just took me aback @ u not knowing the timing of the suspension and what can be done in the interim.

As a Panther fan, I would love for either Spags or Tuna to get this gig. Tuna hasn’t been a good coach since the mid-1990s, and we just saw how great a coach Spags was in St. Louis.

The Saints implosion is well underway, and with the Bucs rebuilding with a clueless college coach, all that remains is finding some scandal or other-world incompetence in Atlanta and the NFC South is ours…………
===================================
WOW thats alot of ifs

Sean Payton does realize that Bill is going to run this team his way and it’s going to be a lot less fun with him at the helm!

The players might not like this when they get to practice.

Sean Payton's suspension was excessive in terms of what the NFL was trying to accomplish. The NFL brainpower wants to send a message to never to support, lie, and protect a cart for cash incentive. The only problem with SP's suspension is it creates the perfect storm and adversity that the city and team thrive off of. 8 games this season and four next season is sending a message. Now, you have a clean slate for a legendary coach and mentor to come in and run the table all the way home. Stranger things have happended in New Orleans. NFL is messing with the wrong coach and the wrong 12th man. This is the dysfunction that an emotional New Orleans fan base needs leading up to hosting a super bowl in the home dome. If they are winning games and in the mix by week 10, watch out.

I would venture to guess that even the most burned-out coach can find the fortitude to suck it up for one year to coach an offense led by Drew Brees (coming off a record-setting season, no less).

__
Insert Troy Aikman for Drew Brees...and you get Barry Switzer winning a Super Bowl with the Cowboys.

Just one more example why the Rooney rule is useless. They are gonna pick who they wanna pick.</i>
The Rooney Rule requires they interview at least one legitimate minority candidate. They don't have to hire him, but they do have to interview him. Even tho not hired, it gives the minority candidate head coach interview experience. It is also introduces a legitimate minority candidate into the equation. Compare the number of minority head coaches now with 10 years ago. Pretty amazing, huh? Reason: Rooney Rule.... Give credit to it. No forced affirmative action required, just the interview has accomplished more in the NFL than many other "white-only" professions.

In order to promote his conspiracy theory, the author of this article leaves out a HUGE part of this story:

Payton has discussed the interim coaching job with his staff, and for various reasons THEY prefer not to be the interim coach.

Other articles I have read say that offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. would prefer to just call plays and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer isn't going to campaign for the job. Steve Spagnuolo is new to the staff and just taking over the defense and wants to focus on that.

Whether those are their real reasons or whether they simply don't want to remembered as the interim coach who went 6-10 because half their defense got suspended once Goodell announces player discipline, I don't know.

But to simply ignore the fact that the current staff was considered PRIOR to Payton talking to Parcells in order to construct a theory about Payton's intentions is just wrong.

Your mom named you "jenniferxxx"? Crazy!

Since none of these other d-bags bothered to inform you - Payton's suspension does not begin until April 1, 2017. So, he's got 5 years and 5 days to name a replacement - as long as he also names at least 17 additional minority replacements to satisfy various CBA minority hiring requirements.

Didn't I see you in a movie somewhere???.....

As much disdain as I have for the Saints and their dirty dealings, it would be an interesting way to thumb your nose at the league to bring on someone of such huge stature as Parcells. It could energize an organization that is going to be pretty beaten down.

But I think @portlax12 makes the key point. I doubt Parcells wants to restart his HOF timeline. And keeping a seat warm with a team likely decimated with suspensions, in a tough division, doesn't sound like a good sell to any esteemed coach - not the what most would want as the final item on their resume.

(I think back to Kerry Collins in Indy last year - who wants a black mark on their legacy with a thankless gig?)

As for the Rooney rule, even if its primary benefit at this point is just getting black coaches more interviews with more teams, it's a good thing. That's face time and interview experience that wouldn't be had otherwise.

If there was a mandate that black coaches or GMs or owners had to be hired in a specific ratio, that would be bad. But since hiring isn't mandated, it just opens up the process.

So how does a guy who’s suspended … and who is not supposed to be having anything to do with the football operations of the Saints … how does he approach Bill Parcells about being the interim coach without violating the very nature of ‘suspension’?

_________

He is not currently suspended... April 1st is his first day.

As a Panther fan, I would love for either Spags or Tuna to get this gig. Tuna hasn't been a good coach since the mid-1990s, and we just saw how great a coach Spags was in St. Louis.

The Saints implosion is well underway, and with the Bucs rebuilding with a clueless college coach, all that remains is finding some scandal or other-world incompetence in Atlanta and the NFC South is ours............

This would be a great move if it happens. Parcells would be perfectly content delegating the coaching duties to his staff while he focuses on getting all of the players on the same page. He would be one of the few people out there that could command the respect of this team after that debacle with the NFL. It is a veteran group that is built to win NOW. Who better to do this job on an interim basis than Parcells. Considering his age, no matter what happens, he would have no problem stepping away after this year. Good move Saints.

I thought Payton was suspended? That should be no participating in Saints activities or decisions at all. Assisting with his own replacement or interviewing personnel and participating in decision should be a violation. Has the suspension not started yet or is he flaunting the NFL again?</i>

Here we go again...

After looking at what he did with Dallas, I just don't see Tuna being able to stomach a pass-first offense, even with all those pieces in place. He just doesn't have the stomach to go four wide on a regular basis.

The defense would be in really good shape, though, assuming they still have any players....
