The Giants aren’t done in free agency

The Giants only have about $2.5 million in cap space available at the moment, but that doesn’t mean they are standing pat.

General manager Jerry Reese was on Sirius XM NFL Radio on Monday and said he anticipates making more moves in free agency. Reese said the salary cap dictates much of what the Giants are able to do, but they seem content to wait until the prices come to a level that makes sense for them.

“There’s still some things to do in free agency for us I think,” Reese said, via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPNNewYork.com. “Just kind of slow play it and see who is out there and what is available for us and what our needs are as we continue the offseason process and look at the draft and look down the road. But we have things to do still.”

Thus far, the Giants have re-signed a slew of their own free agents, including cornerback Terrell Thomas and punter Steve Weatherford, and signed tight end Martellus Bennett. Wide receiver Mario Manningham left for the 49ers and cornerback Aaron Ross took his talents to Cincinnati Jacksonville.

Middle linebacker seems like the most logical spot for the Giants to address. Mark Herzlich and Greg Jones, both of whom played sparingly as rookies, are the two players currently on the roster at the position. They could re-sign Chase Blackburn or Jonathan Goff or they could look outside the organization at one of the several other inside linebackers looking for work right now. There’s a glut of them on the market, something that should work well for the cost-conscious Giants.
