this really makes no sense. if the Browns create the perception (even falsely) that they are interested in Tannehill, all they’ll do is entice teams to call Minnesota at #3. By bringing this guy in for a visit it’s saying to the teams below them, “if you want Tannehill, you better move ahead of us, because we are considering him at #4.”

That’s why it does make sense. If Tannehill’s not the player they really want, forcing someone to trade in front of them to get him ensures that one more player that they DO want IS available, like Justin Blackmon, whom the Vikings might take at 3. If Miami trades up to 3 to get Tannehill, that means Blackmon falls to 4. So it makes sense to work him out whether they want him or not.

Also, what if he slips to 22, a la Aaron Rodgers? Even if they don’t want him at 4, they may want him at 22. So there’s 3 reasons to work him out: 1. They want to know if he’s good enough to take at #4 or not; 2. They want to at least make people think that they might take him at #4 to force the trade scenario; or 3. They want to know if he’s good enough to take at #22 or not.

Not a lot of happy memories or Hall of Famers., more than a coincidence and the long term basis for the “Factory of Sadness”.

If you’ve never heard of David Wilson or Doug Martin, you have no business discussing the draft process.

I do like Weeden, though. Taking the tandem of Blackmon and Weeden would be a nice way of following the Bengals’ strategy from last year’s draft, which worked out pretty well for them. Of course, their offense was built around a “3 yards and a cloud of dust” type running game, while the Browns are trying to put more on the QB’s shoulders…

Wrong. Mediocre QBs fail without weapons, but elite QBs make weapons out of mediocre recceivers. Don’t believe me? Look up the stats for Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Cam Newton’s receivers when they’ve had somebody else throwing them the ball.

The argument here isn’t whether the Browns need to add more weapons for their QB or whether they need a better QB. The argument is whether Tannehill has elite ability or not. I’m not convinced one way or the other, so I’m not really sold on the idea of drafting him 4th overall. If H&H&S think Tannehill has the intelligence and physical skills to be a truly elite QB in the NFL, then, yes, 4th overall is where they should take him. If you truly believe that he can be a 10-year starter with superstar potential for your team, you take him when you KNOW you can, and don’t risk letting him slip away to another team just because he MIGHT last until your next pick.

Again, let me say that I don’t personally think he’s a sure thing, nor do I think he’s worth a 4th overall pick. But if the Browns’ staff does think that, I’m confident they are basing their decisions on a lot more research and experience than I have at evaluating draft prospects.

This guy is the picture of mediocrity. He was the fifth best QB in his own conference last year.

If you want a QB that badly, take Weeden at 22. Who cares about his age, you can still get 8-10 years out of him, and he is MILES ahead of Tannehill in his development.

Hey Browns fans- who would you rather have with your first two picks- Blackmon and Weeden (or Khalil and Weeden) or Tannehill and one of those backs you’ve never heard of that Mayock listed?

Take the surest bet…Trent Richardson.

I guess I wouldn’t throw up if they take Blackmon or Claiborne. WR is just a much deeper position. There will plenty of value left at #22.

That’s the quote that struck me. Are they so desperate that they draft a QB they’ve gotta “coach up”? You go “sure thing” @ 4, not prospect. Tannehill=Colt 2.0.
