Tom Coughlin is about to be rewarded for earning his second Super Bowl victory as head coach of the Giants.

Giants owner John Mara told Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post that the Giants expect to complete a contract extension for Coughlin in the next month to six weeks.

Coughlin is entering the final year of his contract after getting a one-year extension in 2011. It seems silly now, but it was only a few months ago that some folks in New York thought Coughlin should be sent packing without even getting that one-year deal, let alone getting a long-term deal.

But the 65-year-old Coughlin, who said in the week leading up to the Super Bowl that he’s not thinking about retirement, now appears ready to sign a deal that will keep him with the Giants until he’s 70 or older. Coughlin got a four-year contract extension after winning the Super Bowl four years ago, and winning the Super Bowl again has given him job security in New York.
