Cowboys’ Jenkins wants a contract extension

Mike Jenkins AP

The Cowboys just paid top dollar to sign cornerback Brandon Carr in free agency, and now Dallas’ other starting corner may be feeling a bit slighted.

Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com reports that the agent for Mike Jenkins, Drew Rosenhaus, has approached the Cowboys about a contract extension for his client. No financial details have been exchanged, but “there is hope” that a long-term deal can be reached.

Jenkins, 27, has shown a willingness to play through injury as a Cowboy, although recurring shoulder problems have oftentimes rendered him ineffective. Jenkins is a highly skilled corner with playmaking ability when healthy, however.

Still, a deal may be tough to consummate from the Cowboys’ perspective if Jenkins wants a deal like Carr’s.

Jenkins is due a $1.052 million base salary entering the final season of his rookie deal.

    Just sit tight, Mike.
Once we throw egg on Mara’s face in front of the arbitrator and make him apologize and give us our cap money back, we’ll be right with you.

Well Mike… why don’t the Boys see if you can actually cover people on a more consistant basis. Just because Newman got released doesn’t mean they were particularly happy with your inconsistant play.

  3. blacknole08 says: Mar 27, 2012 3:43 PM

He’s too inconsistent to warrant a contract extension at this point. Jenkins may wear #21 but he will never be PRIMETIIIME!

  4. jwcarlson says: Mar 27, 2012 3:45 PM

Why sign a contract if you’re not willing to play for those years at that wage?

Isn’t he the guy who is allergic to tackling?

  6. rollore says: Mar 27, 2012 3:48 PM

Well Mike, you have to play for 60 minutes of football regardless of the score. Like when you started playing hurt early in the 2nd half when your team was getting thumped by the Eagles…in both games.

Jenkins play doesn’t warrant a pay raise! Trust me, im a Cowboys fan.

Cowboys would like a secondary that doesnt get its face kicked in Mr.Jenkins.

Then once you shake the magical fairy dust from your outdated and crusty cowboys pleather jackets you all love to wear and the fluffy, dream clouds dissapate from over your head and you wake up from that same damp dream that Eagles’ fans enjoy slumbering to, you will come to reality and know that King Mara and the Giants will never apologize for anything especially to your wrinkly, gas-bag owner.

I thought the Cowboys were considering cutting him?

  11. ozierdisaster3335 says: Mar 27, 2012 3:55 PM

Well I’m sure cowboy fans would like him to start covering the other teams receiver before he gets an extension

“Cowboys’ Jenkins wants a contract extension”

    For what?

He was okay his rookie year.

He had a pretty good year in 2010.

He was often injuried and had a bad year in 2011.

How ’bout he stays healthy, plays the full year, and then he can get a contract based on his performance???

    Imagine that, huh?

What Mara did was a bitch move and if you don’t know it you are in denial.

Mike Jenkins gets smoked more than Nate Newtons crack pipe. I would say that it’s comical that this mediocre no talent ass clown wants a raise, but it’s no surprise. He’s lucky he got paid the first round money he did otherwise he’d be signing the veterans minimum with the Bengals tomorrow.

  20. 7to10for6allday says: Mar 27, 2012 4:32 PM

Nicks and Cruz are gonna burn him all night come week 1. He stinks. Then djax and MacLin will toast him too.

  21. NakedCowboy! says: Mar 27, 2012 4:35 PM

Jenkins was the best player in Dallas secondary last year… and he was crap…

  22. pir8life says: Mar 27, 2012 4:36 PM

but then again, that would not be news.

raise,do you not know what kind of economy were in right now,1 million must be hard to live on especially when you don’t show up and actually cover receivers

  24. glac1 says: Mar 27, 2012 4:39 PM

Didn’t he willingly sign the current one?? If so why should the organization give him the time of day??

He was okay his rookie year.

He had a pretty good year in 2010…*except for all those pass interference and defensive holding penalties he got flagged for.

He was often injuried and had a bad year in 2011.

Not a good idea when your team could quickly draft a new healthy CB, Dre Kirkpatrick would def be an upgrade.

This is why the cowgirls are going to be terrible for years. Jerrah picked Jenkins WAY TOO HIGH. I think Jerrah has a copy of Kiper’s draft board and drafts the “best available” player. Until he hands the reins of the girls over to a competent GM the girls will stink for years.

  29. tonyromoisterrible says: Mar 27, 2012 5:12 PM

Why would any player on the cowgirls think they deserved a raise?

  30. romorocks9 says: Mar 27, 2012 5:24 PM

Mike Jenkins is an underrated corner he deserves an extension.

  31. cooklynn17 says: Mar 27, 2012 5:57 PM

This is the least of the boys issues, Tuck, OSI and Pierre-Paul off the edge in week one is a more pressing problem.

All In. Romo might not make it past week one.

Never fails, I cannot watch a single Cowboys national broadcast without hearing the commentator utter, ‘Cowboys player down after the play, looks like 21, Mike Jenkins. Update after the break’

  35. grimreeper says: Mar 27, 2012 7:50 PM

Jenkins needs to play better he has to do better coverage than what he is doing and well also become better in run support you remember Brandon Jacobs right that just sticks in my head at least pinch him come on extension please!!!

  36. caryw30 says: Mar 27, 2012 11:34 PM

Jerry should take a chance and make Jenkins play out this contract. Lets see what he can do. if he produces then pay him. if not let him go at the end of the season.

Cowboys fan here. Jenkins sucks and the sooner he is done stealing money from the team I root for, the better. The loser is hot garbage.

All I need to know about Mike Jenkins I learned here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24k6p0xtY7Q at 2:55. The fact that he’s still on the team says a LOT about Jerry Jones and the Cowboy organization.
