Also, forgot to mention how vulnerable Pierre Garcon has been to injury, and has never been a star reciever. You don't pay star reciever money to a guy who when he isn't hurt only performs at average. Carlson was 5 mil a year. Pretty standard.

Everyone is hating on this Carlson move. Anyone whose had him over the last couple of years in fantasy would know he was THE best scoring tight end until hurt. He was cheaper than Shank, and the Vikings offense FEATURES multiple tight ends. Our offense is designed to be short concervative passing. Carlson makes as much sense for the Vikings as any other position, and I can't wait to see him play.

Also, the Redskins have created their own image as overspenders on underachievers for at least a few years now. Need I mention Albert Hayneworth again? The skins do not know how to build a team, they just keep overpaying for busts every year.

Spielman is finally rebuilding the Vikings and putting them back on the UPswing (every team cycles from good to bad over and over, it's how football works).

If you don't agree with Spielman, you basically don't know what you're talking about.

Wait… so the Redskins are stupid for signing Garcon big time money (of course he has had big time games) but paying that much money for a second pass-catching tight end, coming off a season ending injury, is the genius decision?

------------------------------------------

Obviously! That's why they have so many Lombardi's in MN..............hahahahahaha!

Michael Floyd is better than Garcon already. Trade some later picks to get back into the 1st round. Kalil and Floyd would be some real nice players to come out of this draft with.
--------------------------------------------------------
I could hope for nothing more. It's too bad that the Vikings seem smitten with the idea of trading back, not up.

I would rather take a shot on Floyd then soooo much risk on Blackmon. Kalil is a major position of need and lowest risk. If Blackmon is a bust, the draft is basically a bust (see Lions), but if we trade a bit to move on Floyd all he has to do is be serviceable and we can justify it.

Garçon was the 28th ranked WR last year…no where close to top 5.

Jabar Gaffbey and Heyward-bey had similar years in production….would you have given them 21.5 m guaranteed?

It’s how Garcon got those numbers though, he was top 5 in YAC which means he got a lot of his yards after contact, something Washington desperately needed in a WR.

-------------------------------------------------

Thank you footballfanman , it's obvious he missed that I mentioned YAC. All Redskins had zero YAC and zero td catches outside of the redzone last season which is why the offense constantly stalled, and difficulty putting up points.

Basically Garcon` contract is only $13.1 million in fully guaranteed money, via the $11 million signing bonus he received and only $2.1mil base for the 2012 season. So for those that refused to actyally take the time to read the actuall contract breakdown and think this is the same ole Vinny Cerrato Redskins you're just simply out of touch...lol

I love how the Skins try to buy the superbowl every year. Additionally every year they get more and more pathetic. It is getting to the point where we should consider asking the arena league if they will take one more team.

Don't you have some Quarterback to injure somewhere Saints fan? People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Interesting that none of my fellow Vikings fans are suspicious about the timing of this news. The team has not done anything to excite the fan base and people are asking questions about their actual plan.

Obviously, the majority of fans are upset about the lack of even having one top free agent make a visit. So the team gets this story out through "people in the know" about them willing to get Garcon but only at their price.

I do not know anything but I ain't buying this story at all. I think it is a PR move by the team to try and appease the fans. In other words, I am throwing the BS flag. Garcon was not the only player out there.

The Vikings would not pay to get a young experienced pretty good WR. Well, they will get what they are paying for now.

How ironic is it that this same front office (minus Childress) decided to draft Jaymar Johnson in the 6th round of the 2008 draft instead of Garcon?

Johnson had 88 catches for 1425 yards and 10 TDs at Jackson State. Garcon had 175 catches for 2972 yards and 41 TDs at Mount Union.

Maybe if the front office would stop trying to be diamonds in the rough type drafters and just be solid drafters they would not be in this position in the first place.

Glad to see us pass on Garcon for that kind of money, I can see where Spielman is going with the signing of Carlson.

Rudolph/Carlson = Gronk/Hernandez
Percy = Welker
AP > whoever

Draft Kalil to protect Ponders blindside and give him some extra time. Our Offense will still be based around AP but only time will tell how he'll recover from his ACL.

Rudolph and Carlson aren't on the same level as a Gronk and Hernadez but I can see the Vikes running a similar style offense with these two huge pass catching TE's. Personally I'd rather have Percy over Welker so I like that. Of course Ponder is no where near Brady but its at least something to try and mimick. Why not try it? It seems to work in NE and the core Vikings are all young. It may take a year or two but I can see it happening down the road.

For once, I actually agree with Rick Spielman in not signing a player. Garcon is not worth what he'll be getting from Washington, and the Vikings are better off not pursuing him.

If you're going to spend that kind of money on a free agent, it needs to be on someone who has consistently produced high-quality results. Garcon has not.

Jabar Gaffbey and Heyward-bey had similar years in production....would you have given them 21.5 m guaranteed?

There are alot of mis-informed posts about Garcon` numbers, last year he had the best numbers of his career and that was with horrible Curtis Painter and Collins throwing him the ball. He also in the top 5 YAC [Yards After Catch] percentages in the league .

The Colts offered him a very similar contract plus there was a huge market for him, but only the brain dead couldn't see that and choose to take the ignorant stance that the Redskins over spent!

@7to10for6allday. im glad you are so worried about where snyders money is going. The eagles won 2 more games than the skins did with arguably twice as much talent and a 100million $ Quarterback. why don't you worry about fixing your own team before you fix someone elses. And I GUARANTEE the skins and boys get the ruling reversed in court. They broke zero rules. whet other team had the chance to do the exact same thing. Its ok I like when philly fans always talk about the skins.
