APCardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt says anyone interpreting his pursuit of Peyton Manning as an indication that he lacks confidence in his quarterbacks is incorrect.
In fact, Whisenhunt told Albert Breer of NFL Network that the Manning chase has nothing to do with how he feels about Kevin Kolb or John Skelton.
“There was a lot made about our pursuit of Peyton Manning, and we all recognize what a great player he was,” Whisenhunt said. “But if you go back three weeks ago, before any of this happened, we were excited about our quarterback position.”
Of course, if the Cardinals were really excited about their quarterback position, they wouldn’t have pursued Manning at all. The teams that are genuinely excited about their quarterbacks — teams like the Patriots, Giants, Packers, Lions, Panthers, etc. — weren’t in the Manning chase.
Still, Whisenhunt said he’s excited about the Kolb-Skelton competition coming in training camp.
“We have two players that have done good things for us at different points of the year,” Whisenhunt said. “We’re excited to get those guys in an offseason program and continue to develop them. So I think we’re excited about that position. We’re obviously going to have some competition there, which is what we want. I think there will be some excitement.”
The Cardinals were in plenty of exciting games last year, but Cardinals fans can be forgiven if they think watching Kolb competing with Skelton is slightly less exciting than watching Manning.

What’s the saying?…. “If you got 2 quarterbacks you got none”
“If you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have one.”
Skelton a good QB? All he does is stare down Fitzgerald. Kolb didnt look to good last year but will see what he does this year. I doubt he will do much though.
you know what they say…when you think you have two good quarterbacks you probaly dont have any.
What was Madden’s long winded saying about having 2 QBs? Something like if you have 2 good QBs, you really have none…
Skeletor wasn’t bad last year though, he found a way to beat my 9ers. He has a fairly big arm and is a big, strong guy. Dude’s like 6’6” or something and 250. He beat the 9ers by getting hit and staying upright and making some throws.
If they are smart, he wins the starting job in camp…
Guess there drafting 2 quarterbacks
Guess who is drafting two quarterbacks?
Translation: We didn’t get Manning so now I have to convince these losers that they’re good enough to start.
I hate the Cardinals but it sucks to see Fitzgerald’s incredible talent waste away on that team.
You know what they say,”Give me all the eggs and bacon you have, I’m sorry, I fear you heard “Give me some eggs and bacon”. No I said give me all the eggs and bacon you have.”
Didn’t know Kolb and Skelton were considered good. I figured more along the lines of mediocre.
But are they as excited as Tebow? I think not.
So in other words, they’re not great. But good enough.
I’m excited too! Who are they?
Face it Weaslehunt, Andy Reid pulled a dirty Sanchez on you in that trade…
They are excited to have 2 good quarterbacks? Who are they? The world would like to know.
Hahaha! Whisenhunt couldn’t develop a young QB if his life depended on it!
The only reason these 2 bums are “good” is that Fitzgerald makes ANYONE good!
And if Manning’s arm is toast, Whisenhunt will have the last laugh.
Wow, I wasn’t aware the Cardinals even had one good quarterback, let alone two. That definitely is news to me.
Two good quarterbacks? Skelton and who?
Alex, I’ll take “Things we say immediately after our master plan falls through” for $500
Who did they get?
Who are the two?
Yeah, because that whole two QB experiment worked out wonderfully last time. And back then, one of them was at SB winning future Hall of Famer.
Man, I feel bad for these coaches who try so hard to bring in a QB to replace another, and when its unsuccessful, they gotta stand in front of the media and say they are excited to have what they have.
Just once I’d like a coach to say, we so badly wanted _________, but unfortunately we have no choice but to go with __________.
Is it too late for me to sweep in and say that having two “good” quarterbacks means you really have none?
Cardinal’s QB plan; play overpaid fragile flower Kolb until he gets hurt in game 5 and is out for the year, then play Skelton for the rest of the year, wind up 7-9 and keep the 40 year history of fail under the Bidwells humming right along.
Stop acting like pursuing Manning means anything about the QB’s a team already had. All it really meant is that they weren’t named Brees or Brady.
Did he say it with a straight face?
If the Cards don’t shore up the woeful left tackle position it won’t matter how excited Whiz is about the QB competition. Both will be running for their lives. Levi Brown had better go back to right tackle. Hopefully they can get Jonathan Martin or Mike Adams. Maybe they could trade down and pick up a 2nd round pick and still get Adams or Gordy Glenn.
Did Kurt Warner and Neil Lomax come out of retirement? Must have missed that.
Apparently, 8 and 8 is just fine with Whisenhunt. Hopefully, this will be his last season.
Fitzgerald’s talent wasted? He did get to go to a Super Bowl. That’s more than Andre Johnson or Calvin Johnson have gotten to do. Even Jerry Rice didn’t get to go to the Super Bowl or play with Montana or Young every single year of his career.
Did the Cardinals just sign two qb’s, if so who are they??
why doesn’t WIZ just play QB for us? Its not gonna matter whos playing because with our OL they aren’t going to last long..
