APRedskins coach Mike Shanahan thinks he has the last franchise quarterback he’ll ever have to acquire in Robert Griffin III.
At the league meeting Wednesday, Shanahan said he loves Griffin not only as a quarterback, but as a person.
“He’s a great guy, great parents — I had a chance to spend a couple hours with his parents, and you know where he gets it,” Shanahan said of meeting Robert Griffin Jr. and Jacqueline Griffin, the retired Army sergeant parents of RG3. “It’s everything you look for as a person.”
Of course, it doesn’t matter to the Redskins how great a person Griffin is if he isn’t also a great quarterback. Fortunately, Shanahan says he sees everything he wants to see on tape of Griffin on the field.
“Obviously, you look at the film and you like what you see on film,” Shanahan said. “As we all know, from the collegiate level to the pro level there are growing pains. Every quarterback goes through it. But he’s got such a big upside.”
Shanahan said he’d also be happy with Andrew Luck if the Colts pull off a surprise move and take Griffin first overall. But Shanahan sounds like he’s ready to marry his coaching future to Griffin.

I understand the importance of charecter, but in all honesty I sometimes get sick of hearing how they are a good person.
I personally believe there are a TON of good people in the NFL and never get any love for it.
RG3 is going to have little success in DC if they get him because of lack of talent and the Redskins play in the competitve in NFC East.
Perfect player for that team and that city. NFC East will be much different division in a few years.
I’m sure Robert Griffin III will not rave about Shanahan after he works with the evil little garden gnome!
RG Leaf
Dad’s a drill sargeant. That explains the haircut.
Great parents? Ryan leaf had great parents too. His parents are not strapping it on are they? Does he have a sister that plays too? Maybe the rat should hire her to play also.
The more Shanahan says, the more Jim Irsay wants in a trade to make sure the Colts don’t “accidentally” write RG3′s name on their card.
lol @ babyhorsemorgan
As a Giants fan, I welcome this guy to NFC East, should make for some very exciting games this season and beyond.
and folks are saying Luck is overhyped, Luck isnt getting nowhere close near the hype the RG3 is getting now, and now irsay is saying hes not sure who the colts will pick but they only have Luck coming in for a personal workout and interview and rg3 said he cant make it? well i think rg3 is set on going to DC and Luck is perfect fit for Indy
I’m sure Robert Griffin III will not rave about Shanahan after he works with the evil little garden gnome
LMAO!!!
Best offseason ever. Who can remember when more has taken place!? Hurry up and draft!!
Redskins are lucky to be getting Griffin. Excellent prospect and the Skins have a good foundation being built.
Shanahan built the rest of the team (that front 7 on defense, Shanahan’s zone blocking scheme, solid wide receivers, and now he has the QB to make it all work. It should be fun to watch and I think the Skins will surprise some people next year.
I hope RG III does well.
Shanahan doesnt have a track record of developing young QBs.
He’s only won with superstar QBs
I love how everyone is a fortune teller. let the kid get drafted and see what happens. everyone needs to stop making predictions. he was great in college now let’s see what the nfl holds for him
The skins have a great QB prospect no matter how it falls, and they paid dearly for the privilege, is the bottom line.
I thought I just read some guy get on RG lll’s haircut… Lol like who are you to judge someone off of that?
Shanahan will find a way to screw up Griffin’s career. You can’t coach a successful team when your head is up your backside, which is the case of both Mike and Son Shanahan.
The Colts could still get Griffin. Its a possibility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Id put up 3 number #1 draft picks to dry hump Tony Romo’s wife….considering he is a failure as a QB anyway I don’t think anyone would mind.
@eaglesfootballfan
“RG3 is going to have little success in DC if they get him because of lack of talent and the Redskins play in the competitve in NFC East.”
May be your memory is faltering in the off season and you want to reassess your statement in view of the following:
Redskins 28, Giants 14
Redskins 23, Giants 10
Cowboys 18, Redskins 16
Cowboys 27, Redskins 24 (OT)
Eagles 20, Redskins 13
Eagles 34, Redskins 10
A key player (or at least better play from a key position) can make a difference in 3 of the divisional losses of the 4 listed above.
BTW – The Superbowl champs certainly didn’t get it done against the Redskins.
Don’t give the Colts any ideas…

Ah I see, and this is because Philly has the dream team a.k.a all this talent and yet when the playoffs started the dream team and all that talent was doing what??? Oh yes that’s right sitting at home watching just like the lack of talent Skins…
I like Griffin but I’m not sold yet… We traded the farm for him and gave a lot of money to Garcon. Let’s hope all this turns out well or we are set back for another decade.
Hey Eagles Football fan,The Redskins have more talent than you think. As a matter of fact, they have more talent than your Eagles have SB trophies!!!
Eaglesfootballfan if I were u I would concentrate on the high powered dream team u guys have there! Lol
If RG3 can grasp being an nfl qb the redskins are set! Shanny’s system is perfect for his skill set!
Funny how same people hating on him will be skins fans on madden this year… Lol
Lol at that picture. Looks like the star jock and math club president.

Really? The farm? One pick from each of the next 3 drafts does not equate to the farm…Not so my friend get your facts in order before making such a statement…
Why do I always have to read a genius blog post or listen to some clown call into a sports radio station say the same thing when Shanahan is mentioned?
Yes, he won his Super Bowls with Elway being his QB. As did Belichick, Walsh, Landry, Knoll, Lombardi and Jimmy Johnson only win multiple SBs with HOF QBs. The world is full of parrots.
The above reason is why Joe Gibbs is the greatest coach of all time with Parcells 2nd.
What do people keep saying they will be set back for a decade for? The idiot Saints traded away an entire draft for one running back that sucked, and they were in the superbowl within 6 years. To compare you are talking about 2 future #1 draft picks being busts, which happens alot. The people out there who say the Redskins will suck for an entire decade due to one bad trade are idiots.
Why not just say they will suck for 30 years if this doesn’t work? How about 50? The fact is they have sucked for 20 years already if this doesn’t work out they are right back in the same boat they were in before.
Lol hendawg, philly is so much better of a team, organization, and NFL power than washington now, that it’s laughable, cuz I know anyone born before 1985 remembers when it was the other way around. About the only similarity between wash and philly now is that they both did indeed miss the playoffs in 2011, i’ll give that to you. Eagles had an 8-8 year with 38 turnovers and a total team overhaul.
Gonna be some good teams in the NFC in 2012. Philly is gonna be one of them. Washington? Eh… not so sure.
The Redskins are not my team, but I do live in DC, so I can’t help but be pretty tuned into the team and it’s fanbase. Believe me when I say it seems like EVERYONE around here is marrying their hopes to RGIII. Make that “They think he’s the second coming.” Even the veteran broadcasters on the local sports station 9who ought to know better) seem to think playoffs and/or SB is a foregone conclusion the minute this guy steps off the plane in DC.
And for those reasons, I am going to laugh my ___ off when the Colts take him first.
Is Andrew Luck a good consolation prize? Of course. But the people here are desperate for RGIII. That’s who they want. It’s gonna be funny watching Shanahan and Allen give up the farm for a guy they don’t end up getting. Please, Mr. Irsay. Take Griffin!
“Competitve NFC East” -LMAO
Actually we traded a bunch for him dont kid yourself. I’m glad we did it but that’s the farm.
Either you’re first in the draft, or you’re a “next”. The white guy is going to the Midwest. The next guy is going to DC. Is anyone surprised?
I’m nothing close to a Foreskins fan but I wish them well, i’m kind of excited to watch this kid play in the pros
Mike likes him as a quarterback and likes him as a person. He likes Robert as a “quarterback person”. Hard to be any more politically correct than that.
Since when has a “competitive” division stopped what can happen on any given Sunday in the NFL? Do teams like give up if their in a “competitive” division……?
I think it would be freakin hilarious if the colts drafter rg3
Is this the same Shanahan that coined the phrase “Shanahaning” the kicker? The very same beady eyed coach? Maybe Shanahan is trying to “Shanahan” the Colts into taking RGIII, in an effort to grab the better QB, which is Luck. Any way it goes, can’t see the Redskins getting much better with that owner of theirs. Hail garbage
Note to Shanahan: THIS is who you bet your reputation on! RG3 to DC!
And for the Eagle fan hater…the Super Bowl tally in the NFC East looks like this:
Cowpies – 5
Giants – 4
Redskins – 3
Eagles – Squadooooosh
So there’s your spot in the corner. Stay silent until your sad-sack franchise wins something.
Oh, and another thing…Vick and Romo are 32. Manning is 31. RG3 is 22. When RG3 is hitting his prime in 5 years, the rest of the QBs in the division will either be on the way out or long gone. There’s a changing of the guard in the NFC East coming reeeeaaaal soon, and you and your Iggles are on the wrong end of it…
The soul handshake says it all. You just don’t do that with someone you don’t dig.
The one thing I would be suspicious about is Shannahan tipping his hand. He is a notorious liar so if he is so in love with RG3, why would he be raving about him and risk losing him to the Colts? This could be typical draft manuvering.
I pity the fool who gets drafted by the Foreskins……after the Colts pick their guy, can the other QB un-declare and go back to college???
I am shocked that shanny had some positive things about their soon to be Franchise qb.
I am equally shocked that the skins won yet another offseason Lombardi trophy. It’s good to see it back in dc after a year in Philly.
“Shanahan raves …..”
And people say Little Danny Snyder isn’t influencing his coaching staff any more.
@eaglesfootballfan
Being a Skins fan I know full well what the state of Skins football is over the last 20 years. But lets not get carried away with your claims that the Skins cannot hold their own in the NFC East.
Over the last 2 years under Shanahan the Skins have been in a vast majority of their NFC East games (2 clear butt kickings handed to the eventual SB winning Giants last year). Sure they lost the majority of them, but its not crazy to say with a talent like RG3 or Luck at QB the Skins could of pulled a number of those games out.
So keep living in denial, and keep holding out hope that one day soon your beloved Eagles will actually win a SB.
Td40
You’re the worst kind of tool. Closet cowpie fan I suspect. The team has said multiple times they love both kids. So I will be ecstatic with either player. Your logic is ridic and stupid. Yes the skins will be sooo dissapointed when the #1 presumed pick falls to them. The guy who would’ve been drafted #1 last year also. Keep smokin your stuff and doin your lines like your boys in Big D!! HAha
HTTR!
The Redskins will go UNDEFEATED in the NFC East.
I don’t know why Skins fans even bother noticing Eagles’ fans comments? The Eagles have absolutely nothing to talk about… wait, maybe they d… nope, not a thing. I’m not saying the Eagles shouldn’t be respected, because of how good they have been for the last decade +, but again, look at what they have accomplished the last 10+ years… nothing! So no worries, they are still the Eagles, the laughing stock of the NFC East and much of the NFL.
I’m so tired of you idiots comparing this guy to Ryan Leaf or Jamarcus. This kid is not gonna start smoking crack or drinking purple drank. Hes just gonna smoke the rest of the NFL.
From the guy who hung his rep on the line for the disaster situation they had at QB last yr.
Can’t wait to see if the Rat can do to RGIII what he did Jake the Snake… Shanahan is the most overhyped coach in the league today.
Every skins fan is so defensive about how bad and untasted they are.. Truth is they are not a bad team.
I think it is hilarious how they always come back with a lame dream team joke or drop a how many super bowls line…
The NFC east is Extremely competitive hence the reason why the skins haven’t finished better than 4th in the division since 2006 and can’t beat the eagles.
Go birds.
It’s do frustrating because the redskins are such a storied franchise with three supebowls and one of the greatest coaches in history winning traditions pride and then one short narcissistic a$&hole screwed it all up.
Will he stake his reputation on him?
Andy Reid just ate DeSean whole!!
Hahaha shanahan is just saying that becuse he is stuck with rg3, but wishes he had a little luck coming his way!!!!
Skins went out and got Garcon, a 25 year old wr who had nearly a 1000 yards under 3 qb’s last year. They still have room to improve the Oline. Once the Cap fiasco is overturned we will resign London Fletcher. The D is steady. I think this team can go 8-8 or 9-7. RG3 is the real Willie Beamen…
ALL IN!!!!
Tony Romo sucks
Griffin, Griffin, Griffin…..

_______________________________________ which team in the nfc east has never won a superbowl? that is the EAGLES! when the eagles actually do something, maybe your opinion will count for something and that won’t be any time this century so i guess we can label you another ignorant, stupid eagles fan!
Hate to burst your bubble, ‘skins fans… but, Daniel will find a way to mess this up.
He always does.
Stop thinking what Shany says has any effect on what Ursay is going to do. It’s not like they are taking a test and Irsay is peaking over Shannys shoulder to see what he is writing. Nobody in Indy cares what he is saying. They will make up their own minds with their own people.
DC needs a face of the franchise.. we’ve always been a football town and well.. Ovi held us over for a few years.. but RG3 is the perfect guy to rep the city. On top of that his talent should translate well.. hopefully the coaching staff can take full advantage of that.
He’s a “class act”, but Andrew Luck is a “hard worker”. Racial stereotypes ftw!
The redskins have the most delusional fanbase perhaps in all of sports. Every year something happens that makes them believe it is their year to shine and then… nothing.. Heck, I remember when Mcnabb was going to come in and make the Eagles REALLY sorry for trading him.
Here’s a thought – wait til your team actually returns to some sort of glory before acting like it will happen. Every freakin offseason.
Bottom line is the QB position determines the future of every franchise… How were the Colts before and directly after losing Peyton? Crap… The Saints before Brees? Crap… The Patriots before Brady? Crap… Do I need to keep going here? Bottom line is that whoever the Skins get, Luck or RG3, their team will be MUCH better and will continue to get better for the next 10 years… If I were an Eagles/Cowboys/Giants fan I would face that reality and hope your team can win a superbowl, like, NOW…
And, yes, Giants fans, I know you have won two, so the pressure is obviously off you guys to a large degree
Great, after Shamahan ruined Plummer, Cutler and every other QB who has had the misfortune to play for him expect Elway…now he’s going to ruin another one.
I feel bad for RGIII. He seems like a nice guy. He deserves better.
Somewhere tonight a very drunk Jim Irsay is sitting and reading this article, nodding, and saying to himself “This Shanahan fellow has a point..”
im drafting RGIII this year
The more Shanahan says, the more Jim Irsay wants in a trade to make sure the Colts don’t “accidentally” write RG3′s name on their card.
——————————————————
AGAIN, i say FORGET about this idea!!! Shanahan isnt going to trade up one spot to get RG3, if Indy takes him, Shanahan will just say, ok, we get Luck. they traded to 2nd for that reason, they didnt care if it’s RG3 or Luck, they wanted one of them. it’s just more likely it’s RG3 because it seems that Indy is glued to Luck.
As for Shanahan NOT developing young QBs, uh, what about a certain Jay Cutler??? he was a young rookie pick and he was great under Shanahan, the problem was that defense wasnt.

____________________________
A. Steve Young credits Shanahan with developing him into the hall of famer we all remember.
B. I’m not at all sold on Cutler, but many people are, so if you’re one of them, that’s two.
C. He beat Brady in the fourth quarter with Jake F. Plummer.
D. Shanny Jr. runs the exact same system, which has continued to be run in Houston after his departure, so indirectly we can chalk Schaub’s success up to Shanahan too.
Isn’t that enough? The guy’s only really worked with one young quarterback, Cutler, and most people consider that a success. Give him more than two seasons to develop a young quarterback before saying he can’t develop a young quarterback.

Accurate. The Redskins have at least one talent, depending on who decides to play well that Sunday.
Good thing RG has character because Shanahan has none.
Reid just signed golden corral as his face of the franchise and gonna bring in plax so he and desean can have earthworm Jim lookalike contests lol

And they do know better…obviously you see people excited and immediately think EVERYONE is saying Superbowl…NO ONE has said immediate Superbowl/playsoffs in D.C …unlike you, we’re realist.

===============================
youre telling me 3 first round picks isnt a lot? thats 3 first round players, and knowing the Redskins, top 10 players. they also got a 2nd round pick.
Redskins need a QB more than anything. Redskins traded positionally meaningless draft picks to ensure that they are guaranteed a draft of either of 2 amazing QB prospects.
Redskins are total dumbasses. Riiiiight. They should have kept those draft picks to grab more middling talent to fill out the roster and let Sexy Rexy rise up to the occasion this year. Do many of you people actually see strategy beyond 1-2 seasons? Do you not see that the single most significant position player on a team is the QB? Should the Skins have picked up some other questionable rag-bag in free agency? I’d rather gamble on either RG3 or Luck.
Haters gonna hate, and gonna refuse to engage their brains before pushing those little keyboard buttons with all the funny little letters on them.

I’m sorry but you must have Skins fans confused with Cowboy and Eagle fans…wasn’t it the Eagles and their fans who thought they were destined last year with all the off season moves and Vince Young calling them the dream team? And of course Dallas fans think they are going to the Super bowl every year especially the year the snow and Super bowl were in Dallas…
I think the Colts will take Luck. He is far closer to Manning and would fit in more with what they want. Griffin would require a new everything.
RG3 is exactly what Shanahan looks for. He would fit perfectly for that system. The naked bootlegs and play-action bootlegs. Plus Shanahan finally gets the guy that can throw the accurate deep ball.
People that saw the Skins over the last few years got to watch a bunch of QBs miss wide open deep receivers. Wide open medium range receivers. Even short. The Skins problem wasn’t getting people open. It was getting the ball to the open guy. All of the Kyle complaints rarely mentioned that there were usually receivers open.
The running game fell into place late in the season despite the injuries. Accurate deep balls will open that up even more. The Skins will be a force this year. And the PFT staff will need new whipping boys coaches to whine about.
We were all thinking it
