D’Brickashaw Ferguson: Jets locker room is getting better

The conventional wisdom is that the Jets are going to be a circus this year thanks to the addition of Tim Tebow.

It’s probably accurate, if a bit hyperbolic given the fact that the Jets have been a circus every year since Rex Ryan came to town. It certainly was a circus at the end of last season with Santonio Holmes fighting with teammates in the huddle before getting sent to the bench in a game the Jets had to win to have a shot at the playoffs. Perhaps the circus will be bigger, but it isn’t going to be anything all that new for Jets who have been with the team for a while.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson is one such Jet and he weighed in on the question Thursday. He acknowledged the same thing that everyone else has said about the team, but added a twist that we haven’t seen yet.

“It’s going to be a bit of a circus atmosphere. But the locker room is getting a lot better,” Ferguson said to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Ferguson didn’t say whether that was because of Tebow’s arrival or because of other moves the Jets have made this offseason, but living in a circus didn’t seem to hurt the team all that much during Ryan’s first two years on the job. The players have experience with being under the microscope, so that shouldn’t kill their chances at a good season all by itself.

The lack of a consistent pass rusher, poor play at right tackle, a thin group of receivers and major questions about their quarterbacks could do it, but a circus alone probably isn’t enough.
