APA league source tells Florio that punter Donnie Jones has agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Texans.
Jones, who turns 32 before the season, spent the last five years punting for the Rams. His 37.0 net average in 2011 was the worst of that tenure, and ranked 31st in the NFL.
The Texans are in search of competition and insurance for Brett Hartmann, who is coming off torn ACL and facing a three-game suspension to open the 2012 season.
Health allowing after the suspension ends, Hartmann shouldn’t struggle to beat out Jones.

Wow? When the dolphins drafted him he played outstanding for the fins… I was sad to see him go to the rams.
Also, Hartmann was suspended for the first four games of the season, so I am sure Jones will fill in.
Can Jones also play pass rushing Defensive End, Inside Linebacker, Right Guard and Right Tackle?
Jones is the master of out kicking his coverage and has no directional ability whatsoever. Punting from the 50? Might as well just place that ball on the 20, because Donnie will put it in the stands for you.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! WOO WOO WOO WOO!!!
TEXANS TO THE SB B1TC3S!!!!
Looking forward to what we do in the draft
Hope he can sell some suites
If signing a punter exites you that much Andre,I assume you played ls in high school.
If you comment on this particular story you must lead a very boring life. Myself included.
Although, this is the Texans biggest FA signing this season. So maybe there is reason to be excited.
