Today’s NFL transactions include a rare straight-up player-for-player trade.

The Panthers have announced that they traded running back Mike Goodson to the Raiders for offensive lineman Bruce Campbell, a trade that Panthers G.M. Marty Hurney said makes sense for both team’s depth charts.

“Mike is a talented player who gave us three good years, but our depth at running back allowed us to make this move,” Hurney said.

As for Campbell, Hurney likes his athletic ability and the flexibility he brings to the offensive line.

“We think Bruce Campbell is a very young, talented offensive lineman who has all the physical qualities to play in this League,” Hurney said. “He played guard his first two seasons with the Raiders, but we will look at moving him to tackle.”

Goodson showed some promise as an offensive playmaker in 2010, carrying 103 times for 452 yards and adding 40 catches for 310 yards. But in 2011 Goodson got on the field for only four games, and never touched the ball. Campbell has played in 14 games without any starts since the Raiders drafted him in 2010.
