The NFL prohibits incoming underclassman rookies from participating in offseason workouts until the first-year players’ academic calendar has concluded. As NFL Network’s Albert Breer pointed out in a Friday report, Stanford’s “quarters” system may prevent presumptive No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck from attending some Organized Team Activities.
Luck must finish final exams before reporting to the Colts. While Luck has an exemption for the Colts’ May 4-6 minicamp, Stanford’s exams aren’t until June 8-13. Indianapolis’ first full-squad minicamp is scheduled for June 12-14, which may cause a scheduling conflict. Breer does report that Luck is “expected” to attend that minicamp, however.
Luck’s availability for the Colts’ May 17, May 24, and June 6 OTAs is in serious jeopardy, though, because there is no league exemption for Luck to participate, and he won’t be finished with exams by any of those dates.
So due to a tricky NFL rule, Drew Stanton and Trevor Vittatoe may have to hold down the fort at quarterback longer than the Colts might like.
