Jo-Lonn Dunbar signs with Rams

Gregg Williams’ suspension means he won’t be coaching the Rams defense this season, but the Rams will have one of his former charges at linebacker.

Jo-Lonn Dunbar tweeted Monday that he has signed with the Rams. Dunbar has played all three linebacker spots for the Saints since signing with the team as an undrafted free agent, but the Rams figure to use him outside. Chris Chamberlain and Brady Poppinga, last year’s starters on the outside, both hit free agency this offseason and Chamberlain has signed with the Saints.

Dunbar started 14 times for the Saints in 2011, picking up 79 tackles and a sack. He’s a bit smaller than you’d probably like in a starting linebacker, but the Rams don’t have too many options at the position right now. At the very least, Dunbar will upgrade their depth at the position while also contributing on special teams.

Dunbar is the eighth free agent to sign with the Rams this offseason.

Better to spread out the suspensions to affect other teams.

Hopefully he can come in and contribute. Leber was a disaster and Poppinga was very inconsistent

Solid player coming into his own. Hard hitter with a nose for the ball. Hate to see him go.

Good Luck Rams. I loved his aggressive nature, but he’s also prone to over pursuing the ball carrier. carolina abused him on cutback runs in both games last year quite a bit. He would bite on the fake and Stewart/Williams would hit the area he vacated. It’s just another example of why I’m Glad Gregg Williams is no longer the coordinator in New Orleans. His schemes were too aggressive and opponents had then figured out and exploited the weaknesses.

Good luck J0-Lonn. Who Dat Nation appreciates your play. I hoped we would find a way to keep him.

Started out on special teams and through injuries, found playing time. I always thought he was solid and played well. He won’t make the Pro-Bowl but he is a nice NFL LB. Nice pickup Rams.

Once a Saint always a Saint. Best of luck Jo-Lonn…tear it up!!

Seems as though the Rams and Saints essentially traded Chamberlain for Dunbar….Who wins that one ? I’d say the Rams, but perhaps only because I’ve seen a lot more Dunbar…..

We won’t know until the season gets underway. Spags is probably bringing one of “His guys” with him from Stl.

Gregg Williams used to do the same with SS Pierson Preilu.

My previous post made it sound like I didn’t care for Dunbar. If it came off that way I apologize. He sorta neutralized Michael Turner who used to give us all kinds of headaches in the past. He’s a great run stuffing LB if the play is coming to him. His weakness though is over pursuit. Kinda like a poor mans Junior Seau.
