Jo-Lonn Dunbar signs with Rams

Gregg Williams’ suspension means he won’t be coaching the Rams defense this season, but the Rams will have one of his former charges at linebacker.

Jo-Lonn Dunbar tweeted Monday that he has signed with the Rams. Dunbar has played all three linebacker spots for the Saints since signing with the team as an undrafted free agent, but the Rams figure to use him outside. Chris Chamberlain and Brady Poppinga, last year’s starters on the outside, both hit free agency this offseason and Chamberlain has signed with the Saints.

Dunbar started 14 times for the Saints in 2011, picking up 79 tackles and a sack. He’s a bit smaller than you’d probably like in a starting linebacker, but the Rams don’t have too many options at the position right now. At the very least, Dunbar will upgrade their depth at the position while also contributing on special teams.

Dunbar is the eighth free agent to sign with the Rams this offseason.
