georgebrett says: Apr 3, 2012 4:05 PM

You say this like you know 100% Irsay is taking Luck. If I’m RGIII, I go give him reason to think otherwise. COMPETE!!!

In response to your comment:
What exactly is he competing against? Once again he (or any other player for that fact if they have the leverage) is not obligated to do private try-outs for teams. The same goes for the Team when a player request a team to give him a private try-out; they have the right to refuse because the Team has the leverage.

Both QB's have gone through the required processes. If any of the teams that will potentially draft either of them hasn't seen enough and made a decision by now, then I would question that teams
evaluation skills and really be concerned about there future.

btw, while no one knows exactly what's going on in Irsay's head it's a safe bet that we will all find out on or before April 26th!

For that matter, what if this was a publicity show for HIS agent? I might have played it like that too. Its like YOU know you are going to DC. The colts know you are going to DC. THe Skins and the fans know too.

By snubbing the colts it possibly shows a little loyalty to the handshake conversations with the Skins, builds up a little more love with the DC fans, and makes it look at least a little more like playing for DC was more his choice than the result of being passed by the Colts.

DUH. No brainer here. RGIII was right to pass on this in every way. If the Colts are settled on Luck, then this is a waste of his time and would have been some publicity move or dog andpony show.

Two, if they WERE actually considering him, so what? So he could be #1, who cares. The team you play the season with is more important than the number you were picked. RGIII would probably rather be a skin, and he's should.

Besides him having met with the Skins already and stating he likes the town, career wise, the skins are a WAY better move. If he went to the colts he would be dogged all season by talk about whether he was better than Luck, and people would constantly be sniping at him.

THe skins on the other hand, are already building up for his warm reception and the fans are already looking to this guy. So, he pretty much already has a warm fanbase waiting on him. Also, a team (the skins) that are placing so much on the hopes that RGIII will be their game changer are going to pattern themselves around making sure he succeeds. IE: They will be looking to plan the offense to play specifically to RGIII's talent's. (And a little vice versa, as part of his appeal was the way his skills and style fit into the current Redskin style offense.)

DC is all geared up to rally around this kid and that's way more valuable than being able to say you were first pick.

When he steps out on the field for the first game and the stands are already full of RGIII Tshirts, he'll know he made the right call.

4ever9er said...Finally for the dopes who make the negative comments about President Obama and RG3 being in Washington, DC, please remember that the previous President was an Irresponsible Alcholic and possible Drug user who wasn’t very bright. It is actually good to have a President who isn’t stumbling all over himself in interviews and can complete more than a sentence or two.

Can you show proof that the last POTUS was an alcoholic? Can you show proof that he was a possible drug user? Because I know you won't be able to show proof of either but I know that proof can be shown that Hussein Obama was a drug user. BTW, it's great that he can string 2 sentences together. Now if he could only get the unemployment level lower than when he took office and get gas to George W. Bush prices and actually do the things he promised to get elected.

As I read the replies to this article there are a few things that should be cleared up for some of the uninformed fans.

1. No player is obligated to hold private workouts for teams (that's why they have the NFL Combine and the players school has a Pro Day)

2. Arguing that one organization is superior to the other at this time is pointless! You have the #1 pick because gernerally you're a bad team and if you're drafting in the top 10 without trading up in the draft means that you're not good either, you're just better than the team picking first (I have been a 49er fan for 43 years and I've seen the best and the worst)

3) Salary is not a big deal, here is what the top 3 picks signed for in 2011:
# 1 -Cam Newton signed a four-year contract worth $22 million.
# 2 -Von Miller signed a four-year contract worth $21 million
# 3 -Marcell Dareus signed a four-year contract worth $20.4 million.
so RG3 isn't trying to get more money out of anyone and the Colts can't use him as leverage.

4) For the fans suggesting that RG3 is a potential Ryan Leaf or Akili Smith you may want to go and do your home work on RG3, he was an Honor Roll Student at Baylor University and received his Degree in Political Science in the Fall of 2010. He interviewed with a number of teams during the NFL Scouting Combine (there is no record of him blowing off any interviews). He is also a more mature player and better Passer than either Leaf or Smith:
Akili Smith (2 yrs)
323 571 56.6 5148 9.0 9.4 45 15 153.1

Ryan Leaf (1 yr)
227 410 55.4 3968 9.7 10.1 34 11 158.7

Robert Griffin lll (4 yrs)
800 1192 67.1 10366 8.7 9.4 78 17 158.9

So while I don't know what the future holds for Griffin lll or Luck, I do wish them much success unless they are playing my 9ers.

Finally for the dopes who make the negative comments about President Obama and RG3 being in Washington, DC, please remember that the previous President was an Irresponsible Alcholic and possible Drug user who wasn't very bright.
I like Smith-Rodgers is a bad comparison. Had Alex Smith sat for four years and had those receivers, I think he would be very successful. If Rodgers had a new Offensive Coordinate every year of his career, he would be mediocre and considered a bust.
Look how Smith did last year with more support. And how well Matt Flynn did throwing to those receivers.

georgebrett says:
Apr 3, 2012 2:51 PM
I think this says a lot about Robert Griffin and his wanting to compete at the next level. Maybe he doesn’t want a one on one showdown with Andrew Luck to show that he’s not as capable. Maybe he’s scared. As much as I like him, I would think he’d be on the next plane out to compete against Luck.

It says that he knows fully well the Colts are picking Luck and there is no point wasting his time going there. This is an Irsay ploy to get people into thinking he is undecided, just like how long he had people thinking he wasnt going to dump manning until the very end.

Fans will be fans. All these claims that the Colts kicked Manning to the curb are blowing hot air. None of us know what really transpired between Irsay and Manning behind scenes.

For all the public posturing, it is entirely possible that the two of them agreed that the Colts team was simply not going to be ready for Manning to make a run at another title. In other words none of us know if this was Manning wanting to leave.

You guys do know that Mike Nolan requested a private workout from both Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers back in 2005 before the draft.

Rodgers told Nolan, "NO!". Alex Smith being the little nerd he is, of course did everything Nolan asked of him.

That April, 24-25th, the 49ers made one of the biggest mistakes in their franchise history. They passed up a local bay area talent in Rodgers, who grew up a 49ers fan, for a gimmick spread offense, nerd of a QB in Alex "The Bust" Smith.

To this day the single reason they went with Smith instead of Rodgers was that private, yet bizarre workout, that Nolan "The Idiot" asked them both to preform.

Not saying Luck will become a bust or that RGIII will become Rodgers-like. But the similarities in both situations is fascinating.

I think it is funny that people on here think us Colt fans are disappointed RG Leaf won't workout for the Colts. That is a HUGE relief! We were so worried that the Colts would turn retarded and draft him. By him pulling a Ryan Leaf and making it clear he wants to go to the #2 team, we will be rid of him for sure.

Trust me, any real Colt fan has wanted Luck the entire time. RGIII is just another overrated prospect by Obamerica

I have to laugh at all the Colts fans touting this amazingly successful team that was supposedly built by Irsay.

1. It was Polian who built that roster and he just got canned.
2. Your team only got Manning because he refused to go to San Diego, so it was pure dumb luck that scored what we now know was the entire basis of your franchise's winning.
3. Manning is gone and your team will go right back to being what it was last year and before Manning ever arrived....a perennial loser and bottom feeder. Win something WITHOUT Manning then you can yap about successful your team's track record is. Last year proved without a doubt that Manning literally carries an entire team by himself.

Also any Colt fan running Owner smack about Snyder and his behavior is just projecting. Our owner hasn't acted like the drunk uncle of the family that everyone is embarrassed to admit they know. That would be your boy Irsay. Snyder's got a laundry list of smackable items but Colt fans have zero room to talk.

Last but not least, yes RGII has refused workouts for anyone but PFT makes a heck of a point about the fact that he could workout for anyone if he really wanted to.
