So many players act like they’re being severely mistreated and underpaid when they still have time on the contracts that THEY SIGNED. It’s nice to see a guy actually honor his word.

Look you folks can make all the comments you want. But VC is what the sport is all about, at least to me. I would love to see him make some big cash, but he’s more interested in playing football then being a millionaire. I grew up not far from patterson NJ and believe me 540,000 a year isn’t that much money but this kid is good and healthy. He wants to play ball and he wants to do it with the Giants and especially with Eli (they bonded pretty heavily during the lockout with one on one practices). So KUDOS to VC and he allows Giants fans to hold their heads up high and is a shining example of integrity and fortitude and team spirit!

Reading this garbage makes me ill. It almost seems like your rooting for him to get hurt so you can say told you so. Instead of writing about him not holding out, you make half the post about how quick ppl get hurt and it can be over at any sec. Yes all that’s true but damn how many time does it need to be repeated? He has a deal in place and he could’ve gotten hurt last yr also, so what your saying is once a player has a good season he should demand a better contract no matter what cause he could get hurt? You just want that to happen so you can keep making something outta nothing.

although I like Cruz dont forget facts….

Eli is a 2 time Super Bowl MVP and had different receivers in there.

The giants have a history of letting their receivers go and receivers being constantly injured but keep winning with replacement receivers….
I like to bust on Eli and his lack of managing the time clock and his love for throwing the ball to the other team… BUT Eli is the main factor here. you put Cruz on the Jets and he is a non factor unless Tebow is the QB! bam!

Canes….this isn’t completely true. Your comment suggests that the Giants never extend players. Off the top of my head, they extended Tuck during the week of SB42. Good thing they did or he’d be making Mario Williams money right now. They also extended Osi 6 years ago and that turned out fantastic for the Giants. They guy is making 3.5M this year. If you think a guy is going to be around a while, it makes sense to extend him in order to avoid him hitting the jackpot as a F.A.

EJ – Normally, I would agree with this premise. However, Cruz is not your average WR and he’s not a one year wonder. I’m no scout but I’ve seen plenty of WRs in my day. Cruz has the “it” factor. His football instincts are outstanding. He’s one of the very few WRs in the league that would make his QB better. Cruz is like this generation’s Steve Largent. Doesn’t have all the physical gifts in the world but is a complete baller. I may be a bit prejudiced as a Giants’ fan but I think he has more “it” factor than Nicks or any other receiver the Giants have had in a long time.

I understand the Giants are up against it for cap space, and we certainly cannot argue with the job Jerry Reece has done. But if there ever was a guy you just write a check to with no strings attached and say, “Thanks for the effort”, Victor Cruz is that guy. Hope he stays healthy and continues to get even better – in Giants blue.

By not being rewarded, I assume you refer to him earning the same $540K in salary this year that every other kid his age will receive — in the United States and elsewhere — not to mention the untold amounts he has the opportunity to earn through endorsements and all the adulation he’s receiving.

Giants’ fan here and I couldn’t disagree more with you people. You’re all a bunch of “owner lackeys”. Why is it that Cruz is a diva if he complains about the contract he signed but none of you will say “boo” if Cruz was busted for coke or something and the Giants cut him?? These players’ windows are so tiny that they are fools if they don’t cash in as soon as humanly possible. The road is littered with players who got hurt in their walk year and never saw their next contract. The Giants’ cap concerns are not his. With MM gone and Nicks a bit injury prone, Cruz will never have more leverage. If he’s smart, he’ll tell the Giants that if I don’t get an extension before training camp, I’m not coming back no matter what. Its just smart business.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Firstly, Cruz is signed until 2012 and then he only becomes a restricted free agent in 2013. Secondly, i’m pretty sure the Giants know exactly what they are doing. Manningham was at best the 3rd receiver on the team. Steve Smith was Eli’s number 1 go to guy a few years ago and look how that turned out for them. No one is up in arms about Manningham. He wanted more money which is great, but they were not going to pay him and rightfully so.

He’s a smart kid, and the Giants know it will cost them dearly if they wait too long to give him a contract. The Giants just have too much cap issues to deal with right now. I’m sure a deal gets done before the season is over.
