Luck, Griffin meet in Week Three of the preseason

andrew-luck-robert-griffin Getty Images

The NFL has released the full 2012 preseason schedule, and there aren’t many games that stand out.

But one jumps off the screen.

In the third week of the preseason, typically the game featuring the most extensive use of starters, the Colts meet the Redskins.  Which means that quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III will be squaring off, assuming each becomes the starter in his respective city.  (It would be a shock if they aren’t.)

The game will be played at FedEx Field, and for some reason it won’t be one of the nationally televised Week Three preseason contests.

The two teams are next schedule to square off for real in 2014.  That one hopefully will be nationally televised.

This is awesome, too bad the NFL decided not to make it one of the nationally televised games that week. Week 3 is usually the pre-season game where most starters play 3 quarters or at least a half.

If the hype train for this game picks up alot of steam, you can bet the NFL will flex it’s muscle with the networks and rearrange what get’s televised in order to maximize viewership & income. After all, isn’t it their responsibility to the players & network partners to do whatever generates more revenue?

Really??? I wouldn’t take $5 from Shanahan himself to watch the Redskins play. It’s really funny how all the Skins fans really believe they were just a QB away from the deadliest team ever. Especially with RGLeaf possibly taking over. Who is your #1 receiver Skins??? That’s what I thought. Who is your RB??? Oops, you really think Shanahan can pick the cream of the crop every time, he only did it one time with TD. Good luck with another year of falling apart at the seams.

  11. fwippel says: Apr 4, 2012 4:06 PM

This game will end up being televised live nationally, probably on NFL Network. The league’s own network is not going to let this opportunity pass it by.

Just to keep you updated about our “buddy” Tiki……..

Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber and his ex-wife have finally reached a settlement in their bitter divorce, a clerk at Manhattan Supreme Court confirmed Wednesday.

The ex-Giants star was slapped with divorce papers in 2010 after he was seen gallivanting around town with his then-23-year-old mistress — while his pregnant wife, Ginny Barber, spent a week in the hospital.

At the time Barber was an NBC “Today” correspondent.

Last year, Barber proposed to his one-time mistress — former NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson, who posed in her skivvies for Maxim in 2011. The new couple planned to be married this spring but had to put the wedding on hold when the Barbers went to war over money.

At the time, Tiki said he could not afford Ginny’s alimony demand.

The former couple has two sons, and shortly after Ginny filed for divorce she gave birth to twin

    @chadgoy
Trust me, not all Redskins fans think they a QB away from anything. The Redskins need a QB, OL, WR, S for starters. Those things they can address, but the real problem lies with the owner and coach. Until those things change, the Redskins will never win another championship. I say this as a fan for over 35 years.

  26. toonloonboon says: Apr 4, 2012 4:27 PM

    Dear Chadgoy,

Stop trying in vain to create a story. The majority of Redskin fans know the team has got a long way to go and acquiring QB is but just the first step in a long process. just because the 5-10 fans you heard from somewhere are all gung ho doesnt mean that’s the majority. I would not let 5 or 10 idiot fans of whatever team root for convince me one way or the other about your team, too.

  27. gweez76 says: Apr 4, 2012 4:27 PM

Lol I love the Indy hate for RG3. You dummies were picking Leaf till he bailed on the interview.

    ——————————————————–
UH Roy Helu and Evan Royster BOTH had over 100 yards rushing in muliple games, so i think we know who the RB is, so do your homework before saying who is our RB, plus if we re-sign Hightower, there’s 3 RBs right there, but even if we fail to re-sign Tim, i am fine with Roy Helu (a rookie) and Royster (another rookie). i only agree on the number 1 WR, but there have been some teams who didnt have a number one WR and they had one come to them out of nowhere.

Chadgoy are you serious? I`m not saying they were a QB away from being a SB team but I am saying they were a QB away from being a playoff team! Who is the Redskins RB=answer is Roy Helu and he played really well last year but you are too much of an assclown to notice. You just glanced at their record and assumed that there is no way they can improve on it in 2012!……watch out for reciever Leonard Hankerson to have a breakout year!!!!!

    1. I live in DC and I know absoutely ZERO Redskins fans who think they are one player away from a Super Bowl.

    2. Our RBs actually came on at the end of last year. Both Helu and Royster were regularly ripping off 100 yard games. Do you watch football?

    3. # 1 WR is tough. They seem to be going in the direction of trying to build a larger stable of solid guys — Garcon, Morgan, Hankerson, Gaffney probably the top four. Not Vincent Jackson, but it’s not like they stink either. Don’t forget though that they have two really good tight ends in Cooley and Davis. Davis in particular will be a serious weapon in the passing game.

We still need to develop more on the offensive line and this first year will be a learning experience for Griffin. Playoffs are not likely, but would be a great bonus.

No one is talking Super Bowl, only improvement. I’m sorry I didn’t match your sterotype.

  42. gacoltfan says: Apr 4, 2012 4:54 PM

I’m an Indy fan and I am very excited about them drafting Luck. However, I can’t understand the RG3 bashing and calling him RGLeaf. I don’t think drafting Luck means we need to root against RG3. It’s not like Washington is a division opponent or any sort of rival. It’s still 2 years before they even play a meaningful game against each other. Why the hate?

  43. preventoffense says: Apr 4, 2012 4:54 PM

Regardless of which one you like or can’t stand, does everyone realize how awesome the hype and hopefully the actual games are going to be this year?

Even in pre-season, don’t tell me you are not going to peak to find out the following —-

Can Manning throw and will he have any chemistry with his new team.
The Jets Tebow/Sanchez/Rugby Ball — train wreck or fireworks?
    Luck vs RG3

And those don’t include the classic rivalry’s, are the SB Champs still up to par, etc.

    AAAAAWWWOME!!!!

  44. gacoltfan says: Apr 4, 2012 4:58 PM

Unless they meet in the SB some year, if they both stay with the teams that drafted them, they will meet 3 times in their career, 2014, 2018, and 2022. Chances are both won’t be around in 2026.

Hardly the makings of a rivalry.

  45. nflofficeadmin says: Apr 4, 2012 5:03 PM

  46. mrsdavis921 says: Apr 4, 2012 5:04 PM

Did anyone notice that RG3 declined to have a private workout for the Colts? I’m pretty sure we’re not going with anyone who would turn down that opportunity. So Luck turns out to be a Leaf. Who cares. True fans of any team will still go for the team if they suck or not. Some Manning fans disguised themselves as Colts fans and now they’re hiding behind another horse. Big deal! I have friends who played for St. Louis, Oakland and now the Bears… I’m a fan of particular players and a team as a whole. Sometimes teams are going to suck, but if someone is a real fan, they will stick by what ever they are a fan of.

All homerism aside, I remember what an athelete like Vick did for Atlanta. In fact , I can’t name a reciever from that team that beat the Packers in GB in the playoffs. RG3 is a better passer, probably faster, much smarter and doesn’t kill dogs ( that we know of ). Whoever gets him , colts or skins, will be a force within a couple years.

  49. wet4football says: Apr 4, 2012 5:14 PM

as a Colts fan I hope and pray we draft Luck. That being said RG3 even if he fails miserably, he will never come close to being as aweful as Leaf, even Jamarcus Russell laughs at how big of a bust, and idiot Leaf was. I do hope RG3 succeeds, though, just in Washington.

Sure hope this year’s QB draft ends up like 2004, and not like 2002 or 1999. I can’t help but root for both of these guys (Luck and RGIII) unless they’re playing against my team.

Can’t see the Colts not taking Luck though. My guess is the Colts see Luck as the safe pick due to the fact he would have also been considered the top prospect in last year’s draft had he come out then. Reminds me a little of the Manning / Leaf decision. Colts stuck with conventional wisdom and ended up making the right pick.

Hope both of them have great careers.

  54. andyb02 says: Apr 4, 2012 5:36 PM

After this game the Colts will either think they got the best QB in the draft or they made the wrong choice on who to pick. It will be fun to watch two good young QB’s play each other while the rest of the team around them sucks. You could count the good players on both teams on one hand.

  60. jakek2 says: Apr 4, 2012 7:19 PM

Does anybody think the Colts, Skins, media, fans, etc. would be talking different about Luck vs. Griffin if Luck were black and Griffin were white? I’d bet anything that the Colts would take a white Griffin over a black Luck….not because Irsay is racist or any of that….it’s just stereotype in America is all. I’d love for PFT, Wilbon or another outlet to tackle this issue. It’s the white elephant in the room in this debate and we are just too wuss anymore to address it. I think its a fascinating issue. 63. justappreciatesgoodfootball says: Apr 4, 2012 8:50 PM

JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf had reputations for having poor work ethic and emotional immaturity. They also may have had different priorities than football as they are thought to have taken the money and ran. Those things were probably the major contributions to their respective downfalls as they had immense talent.

I’m not sure I see these characteristics in the two men about to be drafted.

  64. stricknineskinz says: Apr 4, 2012 9:54 PM
