Vikings aren’t currently pursuing Parcells

WK-BB385_SP_HOF_G_20120329174519 Getty Images

Yes, the Vikings have pursued Bill Parcells to assume some sort of a role with the team.

No, despite a New York Post report that is attributed to no specific reporter, the effort currently is not ongoing.

Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com reports that the Vikings previously reached out to Parcells, something we hinted strongly at on Tuesday.  Per Pelissero, the “conversations happened a long time ago and there has been no recent contact between the sides.”

As we hear it, the effort related to Parcells joining the team after the 2011 season.

Still, the idea that owner Zygi Wilf would hand the keys to Parcells in April, after publicly declaring that coach Leslie Frazier will remain and promoting Rick Spielman to G.M. makes no sense, for many reasons.

And so any effort by Parcells to create the impression during his talks with the Saints that the Vikings are standing at his doorstep with a blank check is simply incorrect.  But when it comes to the high-stakes game of poker in which Parcells currently is engaged with the Saints, it’s no surprise to see a little bluffing.

Did it occur to anyone that perhaps someone from Parcells’ camp leaked this information to the New York Post for more leverage?

  24. skolvikesskol says: Apr 4, 2012 12:47 PM

So basically, the vikings tried to get one the best to right a ship off course… Then when the Saints get in trouble, they turn to the same man. Parcells being the genius he is, uses a year old Viking story to stir the pot and possibly gain leverage with Saints. Basically he is trying to make the perception he is not only in demand, but by their new hated rivals who drove the bounty accusations. Smart man, dumb story. No one cares.

Fact is, the Vikings didn’t win that game and the Saints won the Super Bowl. Go ahead and put an asterik on it if you want if that helps you sleep at night.

Sensitive? No, I can care less about that game, the Saints played better football, and you will never hear me argue otherwise.

Mature, Honorable? I don’t care about that at all. Its just my opinion that the gulf can’t reclaim the big easy fast enough.

BWAHAHA this has got to be the funniest comment I’ve ever seen from you, and you say a lot of unintentionally funny statements.
Laughing stock? Says who? You? Who the hell are you and why do you think anything that you say sticks?

You can put a * on anything you want buddy. Your opinion is completely irrelevant. The TRUTH is that the Saints defeated the Vikings and went on to be SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS.
You can look it up on NFL.COM if you don’t believe me or you can try to go change it on Wikipedia.

The Saints won it all that year, and the Vikings let the game go. No amount of *’s is going to change that.

Just keep repeating to yourself: Saints Superbowl Champions* over and over as you rock band and forth in the fetal position in the corner of your mom’s basement, I know it comforts you, but it doesn’t change this fact:
    Lombardi Trophies-
    Saints: 1
    Vikings: 0

I’ll take being the “laughing stock” every year if it means we win the Superbowl every year, but I know you wouldn’t dare because that horse you’re riding on is so high.
Well enjoy riding off into the sunset a perennial loser! :)

    Parcells = overrated!!!!!!

I know that the Wylf family is from Jersey and saw Parcells with two different teams there, but why get involved with a leverage skunk like him!!!!

He (relatively) declines everywhere he goes and if he or any other GM underachieved in Miami that person is NOT worthy of another GM job!!!!!!

He’s washed up, old, and greedy!!!! If there are stories about him going to the race track, golfing, or attending baseball games in Miami he can’t be your GM!!!!!

Bobby Beathard helped the Redskins win three Super Bowls (Charley Casserly had Beathard’s players during Gibbs’ 3rd Super Bowl, so Casserly is truly worthy of less credit) and got the Chargers to one Super Bowl appearance!!!!

Plus, he was a part of the Falcons revival when Arthur Blank first came, but he’s not in the HOF because of ONE pick in Ryan Leaf!!!!!

Parcells let Pat White and Chad Henne into Miami, but all we hear is “hire him, hire him!!!” Don’t hire him because all he does is sit around for cash!!!! Why else did  the Dolphins win 13 games over the last two years?????

His dictatorship methods, styles of defense, and build-up of rosters are outdated!!!! If you want to win pluck people from the currently successful!!!!!

Teams like the Chiefs and Falcons haved had mixed results with Belichick guys, but maybe teams should consider good front office guys who are the antithesis of bad reputation GM’s. For example, Al Davis employed Ron Wolf and he built great teams in Green Bay because he had a great football mind!!!!

I think the Chargers draft well, but AJ Smith has a bad reputation. If San Diego had a great front office guy for a GM post he should be hired!!!

No more retreads!!! Get fresher and relentless football minds!!!

  45. andyreiddoublecheeseburger says: Apr 4, 2012 4:10 PM

When was the last time Parcell’s achieved any semblance of success in the league? Amazing how the media obsesses over this guy. If the Vikings wanted someone to run there football operation, why wouldn’t they reach out to someone who, at the very least, has had success recently in the NFL. Parcells failed with the Jets, Cowboys and Dolphins. Bill Polian’s sitting in the ESPN studio- why not reach out to him? Oh, that’s right, he’s not a nice fella. Well Parcells isn’t exactly Joel Osteen either.
