I think Goodell should just schedule a Harbaugh vs. Williams celebrity death match and sell tickets and pay per view viewing. That would be a fair settlement. I like Harbaugh’s odds against the aforementioned Billy Jean King. hahaha.

I was almost willing to concede that Williams got caught doing what goes on a lot behind closed doors, until I heard that. The beginning sounds like your typical locker room tough talk and motivational speaking…but when he starts talking about head shots over and over, and then specifically talks about checking little number ten for his concussion status….and even goes to the point to specifically speak of targeting Crabtree’s ACL. You’re just a DICK Williams. I hope those guys put a bounty on you in your home town. What a D bag. I don’t know if the entire organization was involved in this, so I won’t speak to the entire scope of punishment that was doled out by Goodell…but this dirtbag should never be allowed to coach football anywhere ever again. Straight loser. That’s a lot of tough talk and shady strategy for someone who would never be taking the payback hit. Bum. Goodbye scumbag!!

Well. Nothing to justify. I’m a Saints fan and this is disgusting. 90% of it is the usual BS but when he instructs players to aim for other players’ heads and ACLs is dead wrong.

My problem is not with the fact that the Saints are getting punished, its with the kind of punishment. Its fairly obvious at this point that Williams was putting this stuff out when Payton and other offensive coaches were not around. Payton deserves punishment for not having more of a grip on this animal, but a year suspension hurts the competitiveness of the team and is bad for the NFL. The same goes with taking away draft picks. It hurts the competitiveness of the team into the future when other players and coaches will be in charge who had nothing to do with the bounties. The punishment for Payton should be reduced. The draft picks should be removed THIS year, not next. Vitt’s punishment is right. Gregg Williams should be banned for life.

I’m a Saints fan and that is my take.. Thumbs down me all you like.

What’s sad is that this “tough guy” sends others out to do his dirty work. While I am not naive and do believe there is a lot of talk in NFL locker rooms about “knocking players out of games”, for this guy to be strongly encouraging his players to cause serious physical harm to their opponents and get paid for it is truly sickening.

This idiot actually goes as far as to call out guys by name, describe the way he wants them injured (concussions, torn ACLs, twisted ankles) and then says he will pay for the first of what he hopes to be many injuries. Truly criminal.

Lets not forget that this guy was already warned and investigated by the league for this very thing, and then he goes and lets himself be taped giving this type of speech. truly the definition of insane (doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results)

I applaud you Saints fans for acknowledging that this act is truly heinous, but lets be real where it applies to the rest of the team and the organization. Teammates on both sides of the ball talk to each other, and there is no way that word of these type of speeches and “bounties” don’t get relayed to the offensive players or the other members of the coaching staff. Ignorance is not an excuse

If anyone every played football they would know that anything said in that locker room isn’t out of the ordinary, especially from a defensive coach. People need to calm down about this, because at the end of the day you cannot purposefully hurt someone on the field no matter how hard you try.

It has amazed me through all this that no one has been indicted. These are clearly criminal offenses. Just because they occur within the context of sport doesn’t make them socially acceptable. If I arrange to injure a competitor within the business community, I will spend a long stretch in prison. Contacting hits on people in any profession is an abominable transgression. These bums should be jailed.

As to Williams, he should never be permitted to coach again at any level. Banishment from sport is the only permissible outcome for him, short of a stint in the pokey.

I’ve been calling for a lifetime ban on him since this scandal first broke, but this tape is something even I find hard to believe.

How did this guy even reach that position in the NFL if this is how he operated? How do other staff stand in that room and think “this is just a pep speech” when he is talking about shredding someone’s ACL for money? The NFL itself is in serious trouble over this and Goodell is clearly trying to still get in front of it. Every single place this guy ever worked is now radioactive.

I keep hearing Saints fans cry about the Whitner hit. How was that a dirty hit? Hard? Yes Dirty and illegal? No. And there’s a huge difference between calling a match ” a bodybag game” and a coach that has been accused by numerous players for having a bounty system and has a tape out of him yelling about how he wants players to get hurt and calling them out by name. (run on sentence I know) Yeah, this guy is done.

Fans of the game hate injuries more than anything else, and here this guy is demanding them.
Bagheads should be glad I didn’t deal the punishment. I’d have banned Williams and Payton for life. LOTS of players would have sat out 2012. The trophy they ‘won’ would have been taken back, and the Stains would have forfeited the first four games of the season.
They could then all go down to Bourbon Street and drown their sorrows.
