Carpenter seems to be a bright guy:

“I think, by just about every measurable term, they (the Patriots) are the most successful franchise in the last 10 years."

"The Patriots have been to five Super Bowls and won three (in the last ten years). They have a terrific quarterback and terrific coaches. I don’t know really what else you could hope for as a player going to a team."

"If you have a specific talent they’re going to find a way to utilize that, on either side of the ball."

Who are you going to believe, Bobby Carpenter or the PFT poster hitting computer keys in mom's basement?

McGinest, Brushi, Vrabel, Seymour were only any good because of spygate. If you can see the future and no one else knows it, you look like gods.

Sure they could play, but they knew more than they should due to the illegal films so it enhanced their play. No wins since then, huh?

What a great signing – we know how great Belichick is in coaching up washed up has-been’s — I mean look at his success with Ochocinco and Haynesworth!!

With Carpenter in the fold, the Pats are sure to all be dancing half naked with Gronk at one of their famous “Super Bowl loss” parties in the near future.
=====================================

The Super Bowl.... That's the annual game where Jets fans get to watch two legitimate teams play for a championship after the annual guarantee that this year will be different.

Great pick-up? Yeah, about 3 years ago. He won't even make the Active Roster. What a bunch of biased and uneducated Fans. He travels from one Team to another and never gets on the field since Dallas. Even there he was a dissappointment. Belechick gets my respect, but this is not his typical good value signing.

Get over yourselves Pats fans, not everything you do is "great". Heck, it is the very end of FA. No such thing as a good signing now because even if he came to work for free ( veteran league min.) he takes a place on the 53 man and even for Special Teams unless he is an "ace" serves no purpose and prevents a Draft guy or forces him to a Developmental Squad.

"Anyone saying “good pickup” has probably not seen this guy play. He’s terrible on defense and terrible on special teams. His Romo pick was a combination of familiarity with the opposing player and the blind squirrel finding a nut."

Posters shouldn't be voting this comment from AlanSaysYo down. He is bang on correct. Cowboy bust, cut by Rams, Dolphins and now let walk by Detroit where he started a whopping 3 games...figure it out people, this isn't Junior Seau going to NE.

If by 'solid pick-up' posters mean he's not very good, then I'd agree. Starting 3 games for Detroit and getting cut by th Rams and Miami should tell you all you need to know about the impact he'll make in NE. Depth pick-up, nothing more. Getting INTs of errant Romo passes doesn't qualify for a lot of praise.

Stop hatin' on Bobby Carpenter

He was a great LB at tOSU. He has never received coaching from a great DC in his NFL career. I am sure he will be another Mike Vrabel with the Pats.

Carpenter has size, speed, and instincts, he has just not been taught technique thus far.

If he were not "just another white LB" ya'll would say he's a solid vet pickup ala Andre Carter. But he's white so ya'll just disrepect him like crazy.

I hope Bobby kicks ass this season and makes ya'll look stupid.

Hey Bobby, Detroit fan here. Remember 4th and goal against niners? Keep them out of the end zone and you win to keep your undefeated record going and beating a quality team? Quick slant to the wr and our DB is dragging him to the ground all we needed was for you to stop his forward momentum, but you ran right past the wr not laying a finger on him and he falls into the end zone for a td.... That is why I'm smiling right now as you leave town...

By the end of the season, I felt like the Dallas game was a fluke.

On his pic-6 INT return against Dallas, Bobby Carpenter was a man who refuse to be denied. That was one of the most fun moments of the season. He played that whole game with a chip on his shoulder - a man on a mission. It was really cool. I was excited he was a Lion.

I was hoping he'd play every week like that guy who made a fool of the Cowboys, but unfortunately it didn't happen. By the end of the year I remember feeling like he was missing a lot of plays I expected him to make.

I hope things go well for him in New England. I'm glad the Pats fans are happy to welcome him to their team. Hopefully you play the Cowboys this year.

@doublecheesesteak

The Patriots had to replace their entire defense, minus Wilfork. You can't go down to Target and pick up a Seymour, Bruschi, Vrabel and a Rodney. It's a young defense, but a work in progress hindered by thin depth .

He's nothing special, a 1st round bust , lions gave him a chance he did ok but not good enough for us to consider him as our starter in the future lions knew that , that's why they made no effort to resign him this off season . Expect a outside lb to be drafted in 2nd or 3rd round this draft ,Durant and Levy are both free agents next year so it's only right we start bringing in new blood .

Remember the heyday of the 2001 defense of recycled veteran role players who won the Super Bowl?

It's nice to see them getting back to their roots. Besides, last year alone there were 30 other teams with bigger defensive names who would have loved to play in the Super Bowl but didn't play as well as the Patriots no-name defense down the stretch.

In limited snaps for '10 and '11, Bobby graded out well in coverage. He'll be replacing Guyton, whose departure mandates a state holiday.

Can't be worse, appears to be far better. Solid signing.

Don't really get the optimism here. Bobby Carpenter has 1 play to show for 6 years in the NFL. If he's such a great depth move why didn't the Lions keep him? The guy sheds blocks like a house cat trapped under a blanket. It's a very un-Patriot-like move and I don't see him making it out of training camp.

What a great signing - we know how great Belichick is in coaching up washed up has-been's -- I mean look at his success with Ochocinco and Haynesworth!!

With Carpenter in the fold, the Pats are sure to all be dancing half naked with Gronk at one of their famous "Super Bowl loss" parties in the near future.

Anyone saying "good pickup" has probably not seen this guy play. He's terrible on defense and terrible on special teams. His Romo pick was a combination of familiarity with the opposing player and the blind squirrel finding a nut.

Coming from a Detroit Lions fan that has watched every snap of the last 10 years, it is VERY possible that Carpenter was the Detroit Lions best "coverage" linebacker last year. He was a pretty damn good 3rd down linebacker. Best of luck to him.
