I put those top 5 in group A
I upgrade Big Ben to Group A or to the top of Group B w/ Rivers.

I drop Vick period
I drop Fitzpatrick until he delivers for more than half a year – he remains a huge question mark
I drop Freeman – needs more time and a lot more evidence

I cast a wide net on Group B – all these guys can deliver but there’s also “hair” – is it prep, coaching, stupidity, risk mgt, accuracy, reliance on 1 god-like receiver ? Are they great arms w/ slightly higher risk profiles ? Cold they play a full season and full playoff round at the Group A level ?

So Group B includes all these guys above except Fitz, Vick, and Freeman – they are donwgraded to Group C – they need to stay healthy or do more to join B

So A has 6 guys
B has guys 7
Flacco I put in Group B – so he’s in the range of 7-15 in the league, not bad and plenty good enough to win a SB if he has enough luck and enough talent around him

Basically a 2nd quartile guy and possibly closer to the bottom of the quartile

Very well stated, I would say that Flacco is on the back end of that 7-15 range. But all in all I couldn’t agree more. My list was in no particular order because like you i don’t think you can just rank players since there are so many outside factors invovled in their successes or failures…great job on your side

fact #1 Stafford, Schaub, and Romo are just flat out better Qb’s than Flacco.
Fact #2 Statistically speaking Newton and Fitzpatrick had better seasons than Flacco, and Newtons season was better than ANY season Flacco has had.
Opinion #1 Freeman is debateable, i agree. He appears to have more talent than Flacco to me. Thats just opinion on my part.
You sound like a homer buddy, relax. The one thing Ryan, Schaub, Romo, Stafford, Freeman, Newton, and Fitzpatrick have in common…ZERO SB rings between them. So quite frankly im glad none of them are my favorite QB. Flacco is middle of the pack man, no big deal, he has a helluva team around him and definitely could win an SB as a caretaker QB, but he’ll never win one for the team with his arm, he tried in the championship game and his TEAM let him down with dropped balls. Just sayin…

To heck with that he throws down the gauntlet and says “yes I believe I am the best at my job AND so does every other starting QB”

I have no issue with his answer, do I believe that he is the best QB? No , but given other options available I will take our slightly deluded QB who somehow has won a playoff game in each of his first four years in the league.

Have we forgotten so soon? About the QB who measured what he deserved by dictating which players were to be resigned, whether the coach could be fired, or who should be hired as coach, that he could broker free agent deals, and even in retirement have final sign off on the draft? When he wasn’t allowed to do all these things it was clear evidence to himself that “he wasn’t wanted anymore”. And money wasn’t really at issue at all. So perhaps Flacco is operating under the assumption that he should be the de facto GM to satisfy what he deserves.

People – When Joe Flacco was drafted four years ago, he signed a five year contract. That means, if he has played four years (and he has), he still has one year on the contract.

Oh, and how many quaterbacks in the last 35 years (or longer) have won playoff games in EVERY year of their first four years?

There’s a difference between winning the games and having the games won ins spite of you.

When Ray Rice doesn’t get enough carries, the Ravens lose. That’s because they put the ball in Flacco’s hands.

He’s not nearly as bad as people say; he’s just tremendously average.

His AFC championship game was actually average, statistically speaking, and everyone acts as if it was great. He was playing the 31st ranked pass defense in the NFL and hey were selling out to stop the run.

Flacco should get a contract, but he should be demanding top 12 money, not top 5 money.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt actually; At most, he can demand top 8 money, and that’s only because Newton and Stafford may have turned in fluke years.

It’s about the money, and no… You don’t deserve a contract that guarantees you a ton of it.

I disagree that Joe would be better off waiting until his contract expires next season so he can win a Super Bowl and prove he’s “the best.” The Ravens should be in the hunt, but Super Bowls are elusive. Should he lose another championship game, Flacco’s stock might diminish. And winning a Super Bowl wouldn’t prove he’s “the best.” Roethlisberger has three AFC Championships and two Super Bowl rings. That doesn’t make him the best QB in the league anymore than not winning a Super Bowl made Marino a bust.

For me, the best are Brady, Brees, Rodgers, and a healthy Peyton. Next tier are Rivers, Roethlisberger, and Eli. Flacco follows with Cutler, Stafford, and a few others. But just as next year could elevate Joe, it could also put wind up with him behind RGIII, Luck, or an even more impressive Newton. Much as I love our Kevin Colbert, Ozzie Newsome is arguably the best player personnel guy in the business. Playing hardball in these negotiations is riskier for Flacco than for the Ravens.
