William Hayes signs with Rams

The Rams added another player to the mix at defensive end on Friday and it’s someone with ties to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that the Rams have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with former Titan William Hayes. Hayes was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 Draft by the Titans where he played for Fisher until Fisher left the team after the 2010 season.

Returning to a Fisher-coached team might mean a boost to Hayes’ playing time. Hayes had his best season in 2009 when he started 11 games and picked up four sacks, but injuries helped limit him to just 10 games last season. When Hayes was healthy, he also played less than he did when Fisher coached the team so a reunion might mean good things for his playing time.

The Rams released James Hall this offseason, opening a slot in the lineup for Hayes. He isn’t as good a pass rusher as Hall, but he’s been a solid run defender and Robert Quinn hasn’t been great in that department for St. Louis.
