Getty ImagesDefensive tackle Amobi Okoye, a first-round pick of the Texans in 2007, has another new home. A year after joining the Bears following his release from the Texans, Okoye now is a member of the Buccaneers.
The Bucs and Okoye has agreed to terms on a one-year deal, according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com.
A four-year starter in Houston, the Texans decided to move on when switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4. In Chicago’s Cover 2 defense, Okoye appeared in 16 games, with one start.
In Tampa, he’ll join a rotation that includes Gerald McCoy, Brian Price, John McCargo, Roy Miller, and Frank Okam.

Amobi didn’t get to ride on Bobby Petrino’s Harley.
Good signing
That is good now hopefully the Eagles will resign Derek Landri.
Good pickup for the Bucs. I’m guessing he’ll be the 3rd DT unless Price gets hurt again.
Steeell!
The Texans were moving on regardless of whether or not they switched to a 3-4. Okoye just didn’t develop under Richard Smith or Frank Bush.
Isn’t this the guy that drafted when he was 19?
That makes him pretty damn young still…

____________
All kinds of talent. . . and very little heart outside of Miller.
5 year vet and is only 24. Can still get better good signing
Good value signing, might end up being the best signing of the offseason if either Price or McCoy can’t stay healthy
Very little heart? I don’t think you can say that about any of them. I mean Price played a season in pain with his hamstring stapled to his pelvis.
Blount just retired thinking they signed Chistian Okoye
Bears should’ve kept this guy, but in Emery we trust.
Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense that he didn’t resign with the Bears. Better defense and better team, with a scheme more suited for his skill. I can’t believe a one-year deal at two million out priced Emery and company. Probably wanted to play in warm weather like the chump Vjax.
He’s going to make the all-time NFL money list at this rate, considering his age.
Essentially the Texans and Bears gave up on him. There was also probably a good reason why he lasted this long in free agency and only signed a 1 year “prove it” deal.
He still is young with a ton of talent though. It’s his chance to step it up for a long term contract.
Between him and John McCargo, Tampa is apparently where overdrafted DTs go to die.
maybe he can play middle linebacker…
It’s all good. We’re stacked at DT. It’s Paea’s time to shine baby
Oh well… He could have been part of a much more talented Bengals D line… His loss.
Congratulations on getting him Bucs, with the right coaching Okoye will be a great rotational player, i read that TB were talking to Amobi & Landri .As a Eagles fan im hoping maybe both sides (Eagles F.O. Landris agent) come to their senses and re-sign Derek Landri , cause the dude was a beast with a great motor and he excelled in Washburns system. Obviously the Eagles haven’t tried to replace Trevor Laws or Derek Landri , so everyone knows that with the 15th pick the Philadelphia Eagles select DT (? Michael Brockers , Fletcher
Cox , Dontari Poe) Hell , Rosemans
trackrecord in the 1st & 2nd round has
been awful. It wouldn’t suprise me If
they grabbed Devon still or Jerel
Worthy . If they can move up in the draft they should grab LB Luke Kuechly , but if they don’t then they better pick either Cox,Brockers, or Poe. I like Devon Still alot but not at 15 , besides they knew a LB to pair with Jamar Chaney/Brian Rolle & Demeco Ryans. Our best run stopping DT (Anonio Dixon) is coming back so hopefully that helps .
Thumbs up if you think T.B should draft Morris Claiborne , thumbs down if you’d rather Trent Richardson , or leave a post saying if you prefer them trading down or if you want to see the Bucs draft someone else.
So is there a special package where they play all 6DT’s at the same time? Can any of them play lb or rb or wr?
Defense ,defense ,defense !!! Championships are won with defense . GO BUCS!
This guy was a complete BUST here in Houston and he won’t be good anywhere else.
> Between him and John McCargo, Tampa is apparently where overdrafted DTs go to die.
Yep. Been that way for a while: Ryan Sims, Hovan, Hayensworth etc. etc.
Another quality free agent signing with the good guys! Considering how Gerald went down in his couple of seasons, now have a little more dept at d-tackle! Plus this kid is young with plenty of playing experience,& doesn’t have character issues( FAT ALBERT)& last but not ph it doesn’t hurt the pockets!
He’s pretty good against the run. Not so much in stats like sacks but, he’s still young and currently not hurt. Good pick up.
