Asante Samuel would like to remind you he’s still a great cornerback

Asante Samuel may not have a future in Philadelphia, but he’s still a great cornerback.

At least, he thinks he is.

Samuel has decided to spend his Easter morning tweeting about how great he is, with several links to a blog post that makes a statistical case for Samuel being one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.

“At least some people do their homework and just don’t believe the damn people that never played football,” Samuel wrote in a tweet supporting that blog post.

In multiple tweets directed at Eagles beat writers, Samuel provided the link and wrote, “A quick reminder that Asante Samuel is still a great CB.” Samuel seems to object to the coverage he has received in the media. He also retweeted a tweet that criticized “non football playin ass media mofo’s.”

“They always say I’m a gambler but I don’t get beat!” Samuel added. “Dude went threw 2 years of film and couldn’t find me getting beat. Stop the negative pub.”

Samuel says the people who really matter, like Giants quarterback Eli Manning and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, know how good he is.

“In 8 quarters Eli only threw at me 2 times last season. In 4 quarters my boy Brady threw only once at me. #respect,” Samuel wrote.

Of course, the Eagles are well aware of how often Samuel is targeted by opposing quarterbacks and how Samuel looks on tape, and the Eagles are still choosing to dangle Samuel as trade bait. So they’re apparently not convinced that he’s quite as great as he thinks he is.

But if Samuel plays for another team in 2012, he’ll clearly be motivated to prove the Eagles wrong.
