I made a similar point a couple weeks ago on the Pats board I go to. If you have a gambler CB without a stud , very smart safety like Rodney it’s asking for trouble. In fact, I wonder if many realize that besides the dropped INT, AS was the guy supposed to cover Tyree on that infamous play in SB 42 and instead Rodney lives in SB infamy because he was trying to cover for Mr Freelancer.

Pats don’t have that safety right now. I love Chung, but he isn’t close to Rodney’s level yet. I’d like to see them draft Harrison Smith. He seems like he COULD be that Rodney type guy. I like my safeties smart. My CBs can be plankton heads though. :)

AS already tweeted about this article being here too. He loves him some him. He’ll never be a Patriot again. Doubt he would want that, and I am about 100% positive the Pats don’t.

He is elite by just about every measure. For an organization as successfull and smart as the Eagles have been over the years it’s a lttle surprising to see how they’ve miss used both Namdi and Samuels. The Eagles paid a lot of money to Asomugha who made his name as possibly the best cover corner in the league and who played on the edge all his career and asked him to play the the slot. That to me is like buying a Ferrari and using it to haul a trailer. Can it get the job done? Sure but that’s not the best use of a high price sports car.

Rodney was injured in 2006 when Asante had his breakout season. Rodney wasn’t that good in 2007, and he played closer to the line of scrimmage than back deep. So I wouldn’t be giving Rodney too much credit for Asante’s good couple years in New England.
