How can he not comment, when it’s asked EVERYTIME he goes anywhere? And you really expect him to throw his teammates under the bus? You really expect him to just come out and say, “Yeah, I knew about it, but I didn’t care.” This is a business, and Drew has always been one of the best at deflecting questions and keeping himself clean. BTW, it is possible Dplayers weren’t outright telling him about the money, since they thought maybe he wouldn’t approve. Innocent until proven guilty my ass. That guy’s body of charity work FAR outweighs any negative opinion that can be gained by denying his knowledge of something that really didn’t involve him in the first place. You guys remember, he’s on the offense, not the D, right?
--------------------------------
Yup, I remember as does every one on this forum (I would hope). Then Drew Brees' answer should very simply be, "I have no knowledge of it happening." Not, "It didn't exist." Since he was on offense, how would he know if it didn't exist?

I had always respected Brees and started not respecting him last year during the lockout. Now, I think I have lost every ounce of respect I ever had for him.

Drew: Your coaching staff ADMITTED wrong doing. That means, IT HAPPENED!

Are you freaking kidding me?

I do have a lot of respect for Brees in regard to his charity work off the field. But as the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints -- as the man who is supposed to be the leader and spark plug of this team -- he has taken his team loyalty to the point where he has become a flunky who cannot think for himself and stand up for what is right. It's one of my biggest pet peeves, and more importantly, it's exacerbating this scandal and tarnishing his reputation.

That in itself is why Saints fans get upset. Most aren’t sitting here saying the team did nothing wrong. They should have listened…of course. The issue had been that the league, it players, and anyone with common sense, realizes this type of activity has been prevelent within the NFL for decades. This Saints fans expected a punishment. But to be given a punishment that was meant to stop the entire league from doing something…only imposed on one team…when so many ex-players have admitted this is common place. Well that seems rather misguided and without a doubt, unfair.

@darthsaint,
This is EXACTLY what Goodell did the Pats . That's just the way it goes. Other teams taped too (though players aren't involved in that type of thing so a lot of them don't get it and aren't sympathetic to it like with this), but Pats got turned in by one of their ex coaches so an example was made. I believe 100% had BB lied to the commish and failed to stop, the Pats would have lost him for the year also. The Saints pushed that envelope way way too far.

Since Brees is their union rep, and a hugely vocal one, I think he would have been better served by not commenting on this at all. Right now he's trying to "serve two masters" and it doesn't look good for him.

The author seems to have a reading comprehension problem. Please re-read Brees' comments in the original article, not the twisted allegations made here. I don't really blame the readers here, because many of them probably didn't read the original article and took what was said here as fact. Unfortunately, the author of this article mislead you all. At NO time did Brees claim that the bounty program "didn’t exist at all."

First of all, it helps to understand what a 'bounty' actually is. It is a reward for certain actions, so YES, the Saints had a 'Bounty Program' and Brees knows this. The article specifically mentions that Brees wanted to make a distinction between a 'pay for performance' vs. a 'pay for injury'. He and Gregg Williams acknowledge that there was a 'pay for performance' program.

He is disputing that his teammates were involved in a 'pay for injury' program. I have not seen anyone acknowledge that there was a 'pay for injury' program. The NFL believes there is evidence of this, which there may very well be, but they have not made it public. Brees is claiming that he was not aware of this aspect of the program. He has on multiple occasions tried to counter the media frenzy that has turned the 'pay for performance' into a cash-for-crippling program that the media has portrayed.

The Williams' audio certainly implies there was an injury element to the program, but the audio did not make a direct link between payments and 'cart-offs'. The fact that no opposing player was ever actually carted off the field seems to back Brees up. The defensive players either did not take those comments literally or they are just very bad at executing the coaches instructions.

Anyway, the point is that Brees did NOT deny that there was a 'bounty program' as this author specifically states, so your vitriol towards Brees is unwarranted.

And to you vikesfansteve, you DO realize that the ONE late hit on Favre was played over and over again on that video you posted? That's what the media loves to do. It sells papers. It promotes sites. It gets traffic to forums like this. And most importantly the NFL rakes in the dough from it.

Can't you people see what GOOD football is supposed to look like? When you look at Farve did you really believe he played well? Can you really believe you should have won that game? Did you think he was better than Drew Brees? If so, then you need to start your own league. You can call it the NTL - No Talent League. You can watch 12 men in the huddle, QB holding the ball too long while being immobile, then throwing interceptions. You can watch an ineffective O Line cave, and you can watch WRs drop balls. THEN you'll be happy. But the Saints won't be part of your league. They'll be busy readying for the SB!

Hey Drew and all supporters of Brees in case you have not heard, your coaches already admitted they paid to hurt players. Who the F is Drew stating he needs an explanation, heres one for you Drew when the NFL says stop with the shenanigans you stop you don't lie and keep going with the shenanigans.

Paulienuts The admissions made by the Saints organization were admissions of a PAY FOR PERFORMANCE system NOT a Bounty or Pay for Injury scheme. THAT IS THE REAL TRUTH.
You can beg all you want, bluefan, the Giants put a bounty on 49s! AND THEY ADMITTED IT! Targeted a man with concussions issues!

You holier than thou pieces of work need to get a grip. Yes, the Saints ARE better than your Giants. You will see that when we go farther into the playoffs this season WITH ONE ARM BEHIND THEIR BACKS. Goodell saw fit to cripple the team, but they WON'T BOW DON'T KNOW HOW!!!

Drew is a better leader AND a better QB than EM. He will prove it with his astutely negotiated millions (more than any other QB in the league), and that's not stupid, my man.

When you people see the REAL truth you will still be hating on the Saints, because you don't know any other way to be. The truth is that the "proof" the league has is compromised by a disgruntled employee who fabricated some documents.

You and Florio and the rest of the media circus has kept these trumped up charges in the forefront by posting ridiculous figures like 80% of the people ON THIS SITE think the Saints did thus and so. He constantly does this. Are you so ignorant that you don't know that he deletes half of all Saints fans comments? We have reported this MANY TIMES. Any other sports forum does not do this. JUST HERE. So his idiotic 80% is just that. IDIOTIC. What does that make YOU for believing it?

while there may have been a financial incentive for Saints defensive players to cause “cart-offs,” no one ever succeeded.
So they were inept on defense, we know that and saw that. Just because they didn't succeed doesn't absolve them of anything. It's like someone trying to commit murder and they don't succeed. They get punished for attempted murder.

I beg to differ. I just saw my team win their 2nd Super Bowl in 5 years. I hate the Saints because they are pure arrogance from top to bottom, and I'm quite certain that most people outside of NO share that very same opinion. Seeing Drew Brees continuously try to defend what happened, or flat out DENY what happened, makes him look incredibly ignorant and stupid in the eyes of millions.

I liked Drew Brees, but his insistance on this is getting ridiculous. Drew, they all admit to it, so you can stop defending them. We know the truth. It's ok. I'd suggest he watch his back this year with only a one year franchise tag deal. Someone might bullseye his knees or shoulder.

At this point, it should be about moving on and not harping on this. Brees should embrace that mindset.

What do people expect him to say? He is giving his opinion, which is lock in step with basically everyone else involved. You either believe those people or you think they are a bunch of players willing to lie every step of the way.

Point is, you don't know, I don't know, and PFT especially doesn't know. Gregg Williams had a clause in his contract that allowed him to run the defense 100% without any interference. Is it really that hard to believe that maybe he actually did that?

I totally think some other players find out about "pay for play" systems and turn the other eye. But I don't think they do that because they are bad people. I think they do that, because it existed in different forms on every team they have been associated with.

Fans keep wanting to act like this was a Saints only issue. Even the Commish in his press conference said that after speaking with the owners and coaches, it was obvious "pay for play" was happening league wide. The Saints are different because they had their hand IN the cookie jar when the league decided this was no longer acceptable.

That in itself is why Saints fans get upset. Most aren't sitting here saying the team did nothing wrong. They should have listened...of course. The issue had been that the league, it players, and anyone with common sense, realizes this type of activity has been prevelent within the NFL for decades. This Saints fans expected a punishment. But to be given a punishment that was meant to stop the entire league from doing something...only imposed on one team...when so many ex-players have admitted this is common place. Well that seems rather misguided and without a doubt, unfair.

Drew sticking up for his team is what you expect from your leader. Seriously, if Drew were to start just randomly throwing guys under the bus. You all would lynch him for being a horrible leader. Ha ha, how will the Saints want this guy back...etc. He is standing up for his team...I personally wouldn't expect anything else.

Ha ha, how will the Saints want this guy back…etc. He is standing up for his team…I personally wouldn’t expect anything else.
