First of all, it helps to understand what a ‘bounty’ actually is. It is a reward for certain actions, so YES, the Saints had a ‘Bounty Program’ and Brees knows this. The article specifically mentions that Brees wanted to make a distinction between a ‘pay for performance’ vs. a ‘pay for injury’. He and Gregg Williams acknowledge that there was a ‘pay for performance’ program.

He is disputing that his teammates were involved in a ‘pay for injury’ program. I have not seen anyone acknowledge that there was a ‘pay for injury’ program. The NFL believes there is evidence of this, which there may very well be, but they have not made it public. Brees is claiming that he was not aware of this aspect of the program. He has on multiple occasions tried to counter the media frenzy that has turned the ‘pay for performance’ into a cash-for-crippling program that the media has portrayed.

The Williams’ audio certainly implies there was an injury element to the program, but the audio did not make a direct link between payments and ‘cart-offs’. The fact that no opposing player was ever actually carted off the field seems to back Brees up. The defensive players either did not take those comments literally or they are just very bad at executing the coaches instructions.

Anyway, the point is that Brees did NOT deny that there was a ‘bounty program’ as this author specifically states, so your vitriol towards Brees is unwarranted.

Can’t you people see what GOOD football is supposed to look like? When you look at Farve did you really believe he played well? Can you really believe you should have won that game? Did you think he was better than Drew Brees? If so, then you need to start your own league. You can call it the NTL – No Talent League. You can watch 12 men in the huddle, QB holding the ball too long while being immobile, then throwing interceptions. You can watch an ineffective O Line cave, and you can watch WRs drop balls. THEN you’ll be happy. But the Saints won’t be part of your league. They’ll be busy readying for the SB!

I beg to differ. I just saw my team win their 2nd Super Bowl in 5 years. I hate the Saints because they are pure arrogance from top to bottom, and I’m quite certain that most people outside of NO share that very same opinion. Seeing Drew Brees continuously try to defend what happened, or flat out DENY what happened, makes him look incredibly ignorant and stupid in the eyes of millions.

At this point, it should be about moving on and not harping on this. Brees should embrace that mindset.

Point is, you don’t know, I don’t know, and PFT especially doesn’t know. Gregg Williams had a clause in his contract that allowed him to run the defense 100% without any interference. Is it really that hard to believe that maybe he actually did that?

I totally think some other players find out about “pay for play” systems and turn the other eye. But I don’t think they do that because they are bad people. I think they do that, because it existed in different forms on every team they have been associated with.

Fans keep wanting to act like this was a Saints only issue. Even the Commish in his press conference said that after speaking with the owners and coaches, it was obvious “pay for play” was happening league wide. The Saints are different because they had their hand IN the cookie jar when the league decided this was no longer acceptable.

That in itself is why Saints fans get upset. Most aren’t sitting here saying the team did nothing wrong. They should have listened…of course. The issue had been that the league, it players, and anyone with common sense, realizes this type of activity has been prevelent within the NFL for decades. This Saints fans expected a punishment. But to be given a punishment that was meant to stop the entire league from doing something…only imposed on one team…when so many ex-players have admitted this is common place. Well that seems rather misguided and without a doubt, unfair.

Drew sticking up for his team is what you expect from your leader. Seriously, if Drew were to start just randomly throwing guys under the bus. You all would lynch him for being a horrible leader. Ha ha, how will the Saints want this guy back…etc. He is standing up for his team…I personally wouldn’t expect anything else.
