what everyone isnt realizing is how the lions got to 10-6.
3 games won when coming back from 21 points or higher.
i belive 5 games 12 points or higher.
its the attitude of the team and city. nothing keeps em down. that is the difference. the whole nfc north is damn good, but cutler and ponder will never pass that level into greatness. and mr stafford did. 40 tds and 5k yards. threw way too much and didnt get injured. he will throw way less in the future. so yea sb here we come.

Somebody’s getting a little uppity (or, perhaps, delusional) after one 10-6 season.

Whoever compared the Lions to the 2005 Bengals had it right. They (Bengals) too thought that one good season was gonna lead to some sort of dynasty. Six years later, they managed to make it to one playoff game again (and lost it.)

Speaking of the AFC North, the Browns were 10-6 in 2007. The BROWNS, folks. Obviously, that 10-6 record led them to several SBs, right? The Lions thinking one 10-6 season makes them championship caliber is equally as laughable.

It’s not that the Lions aren’t capable- it’s simply bad form (and probably bad luck) to assume that getting their collective head out of their collective butt for one year means a stamped ticket to multiple SBs. Hilarious.

It would be SO much more impressive if the team, it’s FO, and it’s fans didn’t brag over a slightly-better-than-average-but-by-no-means-astounding season, went about their biz, and won playoff games and Super Bowls. That’s how the classy, humble Barry Sanders would have handled it- but now people like Suh are the face of the team. What a letdown.

As a lifelong Lions fan I am very happy with where the team is going, the success of last year and the success in the draft. On there other hand there seems to be a level of arrogance in top management at the Lions as well. When a team doesn’t make the Super Bowl, you tweak little things here and there. Upgrade a position that was weak, etc. They have spent the entire offseason bringing the same exact team back with big money contracts. They have yet to fill the big hole in the secondary, and they look like they are planning on putting a rookie back there. I don’t get it.

The Lions won’t win the division in the next decade, much less a SB. What, you get a QB who isn’t Rodney Pete and arguably the best receiver in the league and you’re SB contenders? No, not flipping likely. Get a running game, get some discipline so your best D-lineman is getting tossed from games, get a life coach for your head coach- he almost got into a fist fight on tv on the field. Does anyone else find that preposterous??? Get a secondary that’s not Swiss chees and a linebacking core that can consistently tackle when Suh and the line don’t get a push or are neutralized. And rationalizing this guys comments by saying ‘every CEO should be like this,’ or ‘he should work at Walmart if he doesn’t feel this way’ is rediculous. Reminds me of a little kid. I wanna win a bajillion SBs! All millennium team! The Lions haven’t been relevant since Barry, and even that was only one man, not team relevance. Go back to 3rd where you belong, Bears all day baby!

Why would any team want to avoid creating the so called unreasonable expectations from fans to win multiple Super Bowls? These kinds of expectations sell season tickets and gear. I’m sure Bengal, Chargers and Jacksonville fans don’t have these kinds of expectations, which is why they may never take the next step. I can’t imagine any business trying to curb expectations of its product. The Ipod wasn’t the only mp3 player on the market, but Apple marketed it as the best and it was the expectations of the customer that moved them into constant upgrades and blind customer loyalty.

For any Lions fan who goes back more than a decade, no, last year wasn’t good enough. The Lions made the playoffs five times in the 90s, had a strong supporting cast and a running back who’s still the model for NFL excellence. In other words, we’ve been here before and been disappointed. I’ll settle for one, but I agree with Lewand. There’s no reason they shouldn’t dramatically raise expectations.

The Lions don’t “NEED” another top WR to take pressure off Calvin. They have plenty of receiving weapons. What they need is a RB who can step in and remain healthy for an entire season. Even moreso than that though they need help in the secondary badly. That is the true “NEED.” Fams who watched this team last year and think they need more receiving weapons are nuts. Calvin Nate Titus Brandon and Tony are plenty. They don’t need a top WR they need a 4th and 5th WR who can not only step in on passing downs but can also play special teams.

How about starting out with just one first.

BTW….the Lions are only one of four teams to never play in the SB, and the only NFC team. Houston, Jacksonville and if course Cleveland are the others.

Not to mention the NFC is a tougher conference than the AFC this year.

Yeah, this is the type of outlook that a GM or CEO needs to have in order to see similar results! The biggest problem is the trickle down, can you honestly say that no one in the Lions locker room would giggle or snicker if you stood in front of the team & told them that their goal should be 3+ super bowl rings!?!? At least half would have the initial thought “man, that would be awesome”!!

Despite last years final standings, the Lions are still the 3rd best team in their division and there playoff birth came with major help from the Bears collapse & incompetent backup QB play!! Man for man in the NFC North, Detroit only has 2 players who’re the best in division at their position!! Megatron & Suh!!! Look at the packers & Bears and figure how many they have in comparison.. All that said, I love that the Lions of today have the backbone that was lacking for soo many years in Detroit (football)! NFC North will be fun to watch for quite a few years to come!!
