Not to go off the topic of the story, but that AT&T logo on Newman’s jersey looks hideous. I hope the NFL stays classy and leaves advertising off the player’s uniforms in the years to come.

Newman was a class act his entire career here. He just got to long in the tooth and after his yearly groin pull last year I knew he was gone before he came back. But that last game… pitiful, just plain pitiful.

Bengals seem to be Cowboys North and the Dolphins seem to be Cowboys South.

By voting Thumbs Down they are basically saying “You may have 13 former first round picks, but it doesn’t matter. Most of them are over the hill and if you are excited for because of that fact, then you are in for a long season”.

As a Cowboy fan I wanted this guy gone for the last 3 years. He was horrible. Just to give you an idea of what you just signed go look at the last game the Cowboys played against the Giants last year. He flat out quit and was taken out of the game. I dont see him making it out of training camp on your roster. He will be cut. But good luck.

I noticed a few people voted thumbs down to this, I was just curious as to why? I mean I can see when people disagrees with someone’s opinion but I don’t understand why someone would voted thumbs down to this statement.

The Bengals do have 13 former first round picks.

So Zimmer brings in all of “his” guys. What happens when he leaves next year for a HC job? All they’re left with are aging vets that the next DC has no use for. All of Zimmer’s aging vets that have been released by the Bengals no longer play. Roy W, Dhani, and now Crocker. These guys went from starting in the NFL to unemployment.. I’m not saying he’s a bad judge of talent, I’m just asking what happens when he leaves?

pac man – a former top 10 pic, is competing for our nickle spot. Newman a former top 5 pick will now be competing with Jason Allen, Nate Clements, and a Rookie 1st rounder to be our 2nd corner, assuming Leon Hall will be starting as our #1- which he is on schedule to do coming off his injury. Clements and Newman were cut because the admittedly have lost a step, but were heading into the last year of huge deals. Just because they aren’t worth 10 million a year doesn’t mean that they have nothing to offer. I didn’t say “We got Newman! Superbowl baby! I said its another former 1st rounder to compete for a job – never a bad thing. Roy Williams had a good year before being hurt, then we let him go. Call Cincy mediocre if you want too, but they aren’t sorry. get a clue buddy.

This is a good signing from the perspective of adding competition at training camp and depth on the roster if he makes the team. The Bengals will use one of their first round picks on either a cornerback or safety. Actually lose nothing for giving the guy a second look.

Training camp is still over four months away. Did I miss the part where Newman was guaranteed a spot on the 53? No? Ok, so he’ll come to camp and try to make the team just like 7th rounders and undrafted free agents. The Bengals are not a team built on castoffs. They have drafted well in recent years and have a good, young nucleus. They have a few castoffs that are more like reclaimation projects to fill specific roles. That’s smart football when the rest of the team is young. If nothing else, Newman comes in to help mold the CB the Bengals will draft in round one.

I’m sure he is being brought in as a Nickel corner so prob isn’t going to draw coverage on the Offense’s best WR. I’m sure he can still cover a 3rd WR, RB and a TE so he should fit in nicely.
Plus, he is going to a better Defense, better pass rush than Dallas so he won’t have to cover as long.
