Saban may attend draft with his five former players

The man who once said he’s not going to be the Alabama coach now is, and five of the players who delivered Nick Saban his second national championship as the Alabama coach will attend the draft on April 26.

The Crimson Tide quintet are hoping that their coach will roll to Radio City Music Hall.  And it sounds like he will.

Saban said Thursday he hopes to attend in support of running back Trent Richardson, safety Mark Barron, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, linebackers Courtney Upshaw and Dont’a Hightower.

“It really is a happy time to know that all these guys probably worked their whole athletic career to this point to have an opportunity like this,” Saban said. “I certainly hope and pray that each one of these guys do get picked in the first round. . . .  I think it’s great for our program.”

It’s definitely great for the program.  Because it helps Saban do that which he does better than anyone — recruit high-school seniors to sign up to play football for him.

So here’s hoping Saban makes it to New York.  We’ll make sure the green room is stocked with Little Debbie’s.

“The man who once said he’s not going to be the Alabama coach now is” – Why did you start this story off with that? That’s irrevelant and had nothing to do with the subject you were about to discuss.

Nick Saban shouldn’t be anywhere near an NFL function

Bobby Petrino has the pariah spot locked down, Saban will take the publicity when the heat is bound to be milder than usual.

5/26 invitees to RCMH from one team means that Nicky Nick is doing what he was brought in to do. Look for more Tide studs at next year’s draft.

Hopefully he hands Richardson his shiny new cleveland browns hat.

Saban will then draft a fat QB with 1 knee over a future HOF QB.

After reading about the the incident with Jeno James when Saban was coaching the Dolphins, I have no respect for him as a human being. What a phony.

He was at the draft last year. Hopefully this year he’ll know when he’s on camera and won’t act so shocked if one of his players get picked in the first round.

I’m not a Dolphins fan at all, but if I was, I would be pretty offended that Saban is going to show his face at an NFL function. He left the Dolphins in shambles to take the Alabama gig.

    Stay in Alabama Nick.

Remember his reaction to the Seahawks taking James Carpenter in the 1st round the last time he went to the draft? lol

Jeezus – you posters sound a little jaded today!
Still not over the LSU game I guess…

Leave the guy alone – he’s doing the right thing in attending the draft and for the right reasons.

    2 Horns Up!

Here’s to hoping those young men can do what Saban couldn’t: Succeed in the NFL.

  20. mcarey032 says: Apr 13, 2012 10:26 AM

How can a guy who bailed on his team and then complained about agents and NFL pro days at his school, yet reaps the benefit when his players are drafted in the NFL and he gets recruits as a result. If he is complaining so badly about the NFL scouting and draft process, he shouldn’t be allowed to participate.

Why should that SOB be there? Maybe ALL first rounders’ coaches should be there? BS is what this is. He was there last year too, but that doesn’t mean he should always be there. Ban the bastard!
