Broncos release starting cornerback Andre’ Goodman

Three weeks after trading their starting quarterback, the Broncos have dumped one of their starting cornerbacks.

The team has announced that veteran corner Andre’ Goodman has been released.

Goodman started every game in 2011, eight in 2010, and all 16 in 2009, his first year with the team.  The 33-year-old defender also has played for the Lions and Dolphins.

Goodman, who was due to earn a base salary of $4.62 million in 2012, instantly becomes a free agent.  His spot in the starting lineup presumably will be filled by newcomer Tracy Porter, assuming that Porter isn’t suspended for his role in the three-year bounty program in New Orleans.

He’ll be free to sign with any team now … after he touches base with the Eagles of course.

Is the possessive of Andre’, Andre”s?

  12. purplehayseuss says: Apr 13, 2012 6:04 PM

Minnesota needs him. They can’t draft all the defensive backs. Goodman or Samuel should be a Viking.

  13. nflfollower says: Apr 13, 2012 6:05 PM

Come back to Detroit on the cheap for some depth Andre….we brought you into the league, retire a lion.

  14. wrathofgodzilla says: Apr 13, 2012 6:05 PM

I am so glad to see him off of my team. He judges routes so poorly and gives up so many TDs and big yardage plays. The Orange and Blue is better off without him. Watch the Pats games and you will see Brady abuse Goodman whenever he didn’t throw to the middle of the field. I’m really excited to see the Orange Crush roll foes without that joker at right corner. I dare the Raiders to pick him up so Manning can pick him apart.

  15. raider8er says: Apr 13, 2012 6:07 PM

Well, if Dennis Allen liked him from last year, expect the Raiders to make a play for him.

  16. morselsfromutleyssoulpatch says: Apr 13, 2012 6:07 PM

    Good Riddance

  17. meefaw says: Apr 13, 2012 6:08 PM

Thank the lord! he was torched all year….granted he is across from champ but he got abused. good depth for someone…time to move on from the broncos.

  20. rushbacker says: Apr 13, 2012 6:22 PM

Lord, please let the Faiders sign him. Broncos fans want it to happen even worse than Faid fans. Good guy, but he’s toast as a corner.

  21. biggiesmallsthecondomfilla says: Apr 13, 2012 6:31 PM

  22. buckifan4life says: Apr 13, 2012 6:45 PM

Um,…Cleveland, would you like to make a move in free agency here in a position of need? Hello? Helllooo? Anybody at the controls?

  23. brobokil says: Apr 13, 2012 6:48 PM

Weird. I had the first post on this article and now it’s not there anymore.

    I’ll say it again.

    VIKINGS! GO GET GOODMAN, SPIELMAN!

  24. lunarpie says: Apr 13, 2012 6:50 PM

    Who cares? Oakland cares!!!

Uncle Al would’ve had a 5 year mega million dollar contract waiting for this player to sign. Big Reggie will surely be taking a look. He would love to have a veteran CB to have a reason to play hard against Peyton Manning.

  25. polegojim says: Apr 13, 2012 6:58 PM

No more retreads in Detroit please.

Sorry man – decent guy, but at this stage in his career, once he hits the field, all the balls will be thrown his way… with success. That’s why the Bronco’s released him.

    Build for the future.

  26. bhindenemylines says: Apr 13, 2012 7:07 PM

Can’t be worse than Torch Newman. Maybe Dallas should kick the tires.

  27. andyreiddoublecheeseburger says: Apr 13, 2012 7:10 PM

The Broncs need some youth in that secondary- the combined ages of their 4 starters last year almost equaled Jon Kasay’s age.

  28. spellingcops says: Apr 13, 2012 7:20 PM

I love how all the Raider trolls are clamoring for this guy. I’m sure it’ s all the same wind bags talking about he and the rest of the Denver D sucks. Please take him, seeing him get toasted in the black $hit hole will be awesome. Commitment to excrement. Just lose, baby

  29. bdshaffer20 says: Apr 13, 2012 7:28 PM

Yeah we got to see how good he isnt when we baptized Timmy T.Stafford lit him up all day.Wait who didnt he lite up?

  30. bigbaldpapahawk says: Apr 13, 2012 7:38 PM

LOL Tracy Porter? Isn’t his claim to fame being tossed like a rag doll by Marshawn Lynch a couple post-seasons back?

  31. citiciti says: Apr 13, 2012 7:46 PM

    C-Town.

Speaking of toast, isn’t Tracy Porter sporting one of those hideous blue and orange skirts these days? You need to stop talking and start praying for some pass rush so your defense can hide that guy.

  33. milehigh85 says: Apr 13, 2012 8:17 PM

Thank you Jesus!! Goodman was such a weak spot in Denvers secondary…. Truth be told, that positoion has been an endless nightmare since Darrent Williams was killed. That kid could have been great.

  34. bloggingpoodlewalker says: Apr 13, 2012 8:57 PM

Pretty hilarious these Bronco fans baggin on the Raiders. The Raiders have more Superbowl rings, more division titles, and feel free to check the head to head matchups between the two. Its not even close. And it will take just one decent hit on old man Manning to snap that neck, hopefully it will be Richard Seymour doin it. Guess what team in the west now is the team with the senile old man whos clueless?…yep, you got it.

  35. thetwilightsown says: Apr 13, 2012 9:36 PM

I find it funny that Donkey fans are so happy to see him leave but hilarious that the only team put on blast on this page, should they pick him up, are my beloved Raiders.
He signs with anyone else, it will be “a smart pickup for depth” – he signs with us and it’s “Oakland is in desperation mode to play against Peyton Manning.” Keep on talkin… but we’ll go ahead and wait to see what happens when the games are played on more than paper.

  36. mullman7675 says: Apr 13, 2012 9:38 PM

Guaranteed he will end up in Silver and Black. He is familiar with Allen and he gets to stick it to Denver twice a year. Big Reg will get it sorted.

  37. maximusprime107 says: Apr 13, 2012 9:39 PM

Good. He’s been awful for a long time

  38. bizieman says: Apr 13, 2012 9:42 PM

The Worst team in the NFL over past 11 years is the Choakland Waiters.

They need a guy who gets burnt twice a game for big plays and can’t tackle at all.

Oh yeah, Carson Palmer will break the pick throwing record without Coach Hue Jackson.

  39. numba1recx19 says: Apr 13, 2012 10:23 PM

He should come back to Miami!!

  40. numba1recx19 says: Apr 13, 2012 10:24 PM

Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, Richard Marshall, Andre goodman, 4 starter corners. Miami needs his again.

  41. mullman7675 says: Apr 13, 2012 10:30 PM

    bizieman is not a smartman…
    He will learn soon enough.

  42. mrmarcus55 says: Apr 13, 2012 10:38 PM

Just putting this into play…Broncos cheated salary cap wise on their two superbowl runs. Ahem lets get some * up in there. I like how broncos fans think porter is going to be their savior. Still think bolts win divison and john elway makes more excuses than a principals office on senior skid day.

  43. kspells12345 says: Apr 13, 2012 10:43 PM

Hey Jennifer, touch base with deez nuts!!

    Sincerely,

    Eagles fans

  44. laserrocketarm12 says: Apr 14, 2012 2:15 AM

@bigbaldpapahawk Tracy Porter’s claim to fame is being tossed by MarShawn a couple of post seasons ago? Are you stupid or just really dumb?
For your answer next time, try this: intercepting Brett Favre in the NFC title game, then Pick 6ing Peyton Manning rwo weeks later to secure the Saints first ever world title

  45. sullijo1 says: Apr 14, 2012 12:00 PM

Will the Chargers be the off-season champion again this year? When we’re the Raiders last relevant? Will the Chiefs go their 20th straight year without a playoff win?

    Just sayin….
