Last month, when the Dodgers announced that the team would be sold to someone other than Rams owner Stan Kroenke, I used the occasion to pay homage to a great baseball player who had a penchant for saying unintentionally brilliant things.

It’s not over ’til it’s over (that’s one of the few things I learned from watching baseball), which means that the deal could, in theory, fall through,” I said, not seriously thinking that the agreement to sell the team to a group led by Magic Johnson and financed by an entity known as “Guggenheim” would collapse.

As it turns out, it could.

Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reports that there is “[u]nfolding drama,” as Major League Baseball wants to delay the approval of the sale. Per Kaplan, the league “has never been comfortable” with this specific deal, which entails payment of more than $2.1 billion for the team and other stuff.

Stay tuned. Kroenke could still end up being in play.

UPDATE 8:51 p.m. ET: Well, that was quick. Eric Fisher of SBJ reports that the sale has been approved.
