I’m curious to see how the NFL responds – they have a strict rule against owners owning other major sports franchises in the same market. Nobody has said anything about that yet…

You really think he spent 338 mil with getting NFL approval first. Dumbass

Give an explanation on why the Saints kept him in games when the were up by four TDs late in the game against weak teams. The Saints are so tainted now. Everything they accomplished in the last 3 years needs to have an *… Seriously I’m not hating on the Saints at all but why did they keep him in the game when they were up by so much? Where they really just out there to break records while making bad opponents look even worse. I mean blowing out the Colts the way they did was just a horrible thing to watch. What were they trying to prove? That coaching staff was shady. Just add a * to the last three years. Everyone with the exception of Saints fans feel this way.

Clearly you missed Manning's 6 TD waxing of the Saints in the season opener after the Colts won their SB.
It was a little bit a payback, that's all.

@Kingbeason52

While I agree with you that Marino's record is more impressive because of the times, you also have to keep in mind that he did everything he could to make sure every play was a passing play and to ensure that the Dophin's had a crappy run game. This was likely a factor as to why Marino never won a SB.

Brees broke the record last season while simultaneously having a 6th best rushing attack in the league. Just saying...

It doesn't bother me that fans want to defend Marinos record as even though I have been a lifelong Saints fan, Marino has always been one of my favorite players. But if you really go back and look instead of listening to the media. Dan broke the record in a similar offensive explosion era. Only one QB passed for over 4,000 yards until 1978. That was Namath in 72 I think. From 78 until Dan broke it in 85, it became common for 3-5 guys to surpass 4k every year and the record was broken several times in that period. So if you want to use an argument against Brees then use the same argument against Dan. And it's not like Dan was playing in Buffalo.

That being said I admit that the rules favor the pass heavily now, but Brees is the only one to do it twice. He was only 18 yards short in 2007.

How about Tom takes the $5 million he is saving on Sean Payton’s salary and ‘up’ Drew’s contract by $2.5 million/year for the next 2 years. There you go. Deal done!!!
For Lord’s Sakes, Pay the Man, Tom!!!!! Jeesh!

You obviously don't realize that it isnt about the dollars. It is about the salary cap. And the coach's salary has nothing to do with that. Think before you write!

uhhh…seriously? how many times has brees been benched due to blowout scores, in the past 3 years alone? really innacurrate; a statement born of ignorance.

When your QB is near a NFL record who hasn’t been break since 15 years , you keep him in games even if you win. I mean it was clear to understand that Payton wanted Brees to break the record of Dan.

I understand where you're coming from however, you have to look at the bigger picture here. First of all Dan Marino's record was in an era in which neither receiver nor the QBs were placed on a bubble to prevent defenders from touching them. Dan did it playing outdoors. I doubt Dan played in as many insignificant games as Brees in which he got garbage stats (Colts game would be a perfect example) and last but not least Dan never had the weapons Brees had. Don't get me wrong it's cool to see records be broken but it's sad to see them be broken that way. Most fans feel this way about his record the same way people feel about the HR record in baseball. 61 HRs in a season was the number to beat and it stood for a long time until steroids came in to the league. I know it's a little different but the big picture is that record stood for so long because everyone prior to Brees tried to break it the right way by not padding their stats during blowouts. Also if you compare Brees' indoor and outdoor numbers, they're polar opposites.

Obviously you don't watch a lot of Saints football as the situation that you described literally never happened. Brees was benched multiple times throughout the year. If they wanted to pad his stats, they wouldn't have pulled him in the third quarter against the Colts. He could have thrown for 10 TDs and 700 yards in that game, easily. Silly hater.
